All I do these days is play drums and go to the boxing gym. There's so much to talk about . I have seen thousands of drum video's. Finally came to understand the confusion and solutions with 'hand technique. Yes. Finally. Thank you for being a true servant of music.
that's awesome bro! I am very happy you are enjoying these vids. It's a lost art form almost. The rebound stroke these days over shadowed by finger technique because it's trendy and easier to understand for most people. This stuff takes time. Takes patience and its a labor of love. All the best!
Another mind blowing video !! Gold 🔥🔥 I can’t thank you enough for this series. The exclusive focus on choreography., rebound and hence reducing the no. of movements plus the downward pressure is like hitting a jackpot. I am grateful to find you.
Another great video. The thing about the downward pressure is not something drummers talk about, you're the only one that clearly outlines that the downward pressure = more speed, not extra effort. I can get my double stroke roll and 7 stroke rolls up to same speed as you, and can feel the downward pressure increase as the speed increases, and then how it relieves when you slow it down and let the natural rebound dictate the speed. My problem currently is that my single strokes SUCK. I cannot get the downward pressure going, when i do single stroke triplets, i can bounce hand to hand, but putting them together, just falls apart and my brain starts wristing everything. It's a massive problem for me, and I it's limiting my drumming because I have this ceiling and mental block almost on bouncing singles, i can do it fine with double stroke rolls, but just cant transfer the brain to do it via single hand to hand triplets. Frustrating because i feel like if I can just get a breakthough on this, it'll open up my playing.
Patience, rely on the accents. Slowly feel the flow of the phrase and relax as you play. Start out with one hand at a time. With rebound and the phrase. Then when you got it go back to doing them together. Let me know how you are doing with it ;-)
@@philmaturanodrums yeah, i've been practicing both matched and trad grip, and funny enough, i am having more success with trad grip, as for some reason, my left hand will naturally bounce due to the way trad grip sort of "forces" you to be loose on the fulcrum with your thumb, matched grip, my left hand ends up subconsciously wristing the strokes, and then i hit my speed ceiling, i will be patient and continue this excercise, religiously, and report back in a few weeks, the progress, thanks again Phil for your hard work, dedication, and desire to give back to the drumming community
