- This vintage chronograph was full of bad surprises. The restoration of the Landeron 48 watch caliber was not a simple task. I love to work on this type of vintage chronograph but this one tested my skills. Hope you will enjoy this restoration

Very clean and thorough job!!!!Thanks.
Thank you
I'm always impressed by your balance staff work
Thank you
Lovely mon ami. Just enjoyed it so much :D I love also those filthy broken watches.
Thank you
Beautiful. Love the old complications.
Thank you
Nice to see the Landeron caliber. I have one in a very beautiful Delbana watch that is in for service with my local watchmaker. I hope it comes out as good as yours did.
I hope so. It is a great caliber
You should invest in some 'Evapo-rust" for any iron or steel parts that are corroded, it reacts with the rust softening/dissolving it and leaving the part with a protective coating on it.
Will save your cleaning solution from becoming dirty and make it last longer lol 👍
Yes I have some now. It is very good
I totally love this watch. You kept the integrity intact to. Amazing work
Glad you enjoy it!
Yes Perfect great work. Keep well from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Thanks Bruce
I love your videos and how you explain every single detail of the restoration. By the way, beautiful watch.
Many thanks for sharing.
Many thanks for watching
Very, very nice job, and indeed a nice movement, great video ! 10x
Thank you very much!
Beautiful dial !
Yes it is a nice one
Amazing work my friend, I’ve never seen that technique to balance the balance wheel, very cool. I also noticed that you didn’t use a rust remover?
I don"t use a rust remover if I can avoid. I prefer ton remove it the way I did first
Excellent job
Thank you
Very nice watch
Thank you
Always a pleasure to watch, this watch was a lot of work but great to see it come back to life. Thank you.
My pleasure!
A little tip.
Using à glass pen is better to get off the rust than a brass brush the glass pen is harder than the brass and don't scratch the métal
Yes I have a glass pen but I find it scratches the parts a bit more
great work mon ami
Thank you
Thank you for this beautiful video on the rather difficult restoration of a very cool watch. Apart from you talking too much - as usual 😉- there is one thing I do not get: at around 16:40 you put the balance staff onto a tool that seems to be not equilibrated correctly. I know a similar tool from my slot cars, and if you do not center it correctly, you might as well do without. However, it is maybe only the shadow that makes it look like this.
Sorry for the talking but it is my style. For the balancing of the balance wheel it is because the camera is at an angle. This is why it looks like it is not aligned
Tres Bien.. That was a great restoration of a vintage chrono. Yes..a Lot of work to clean up the rust etc...to get it to function at all.. plus the repair to the balance. Great work and great looking watch. What kind of strap did you put on it..? - Excellent work. Thanks for the tour..!!
I did not put a strap as this is not my watch and I will let the owner chose his own strap
@@FrenchWatchCollector of course
As a beginner at servicing watches, I noticed that when you were disassembling the balance wheel assembly to remove the broken balance staff, you marked the relative position of the hairspring stud on the balance wheel with a marker. Is it necessary to similarly mark the relative position of the impulse jewel to the balance wheel when removing the roller table or is that an adjustment that can be compensated for when correcting the beat error?
The impulse jewel normally is at 90deg compare to the spoke of the balance wheel. This is why I don't mark it because it is most of the time in this position
@@FrenchWatchCollector Thanks! That's good to know.
@@fredruthven4566 Just make sure you check it before you remove it. Sometimes they are not at 90deg. Also, as a beginner you may want to mark it anyway so you don't put it on upside down and have the roller jewel facing away from the pallet. You may also want to check the hairspring stud position before pushing it on. Lots of things can go wrong if you slip trying to turn it with a tiny screw driver like he did.
Great work and great video! One thing that jumped out at me is that your lift angle is set incorrectly to 52, but should be 42 for a Landeron 48. This different (10 degrees) will make a pretty significant different in the amplitude. So the amplitude is really not going to be close to 340. Nevertheless, great results!
You are right but 340 is too high and with the correct lift angle it will be around 300 which is good
Fantastic revival on something that could have easily been discarded.
If you get chance on a future video please show how main spring and barrel arbour are connected (the power for everything else). I have never quite seen how they are attached, I understand there is a hook which links them together but on most visuals they are clipped into place and I'm usually left uncertain if they are even linked!
Thanks
I will do in one of my video
Hello Dear Frenchwatchmaker,
I have just watched your video fitting a new balance staff and fully overhauling this Landeron 48 .
I have one with a broken balance staff and needs full overhaul but there is NO RUST ( luckily)
So how much do you charge for this repair, I would like to know before I send you my watch for repair?
Thanks
Best regards
David

Sante, why the upper pusher is hanging around?
What do you mean? When it is not on the case? It is normal when it is not in the case. The attachement is round si it can turn
Where are you located? I have a similar (probably the same) nicolet watch that needs a service. I am from belgium
I am in France. In lille to be more precise
BTW what grease did you use on the clutch?
Where on the clutch? The wheel?
@@FrenchWatchCollector on the clutch at winding stem the blue one.
@@ljubavnifeder it is a grease I don't have the moebius number
137 thumbs up
Thanks Steve
What brand of watch is this? Maker?
There is no brands on the dial. Like I said this was the quartz watch of this era. A lot of small brands that disappeared today made watches like this
Love the look of it, that's why I asked. You do amazing work!
@@georgejamison3782 thanks
My heart skipped a beat when you revealed all of that rust… Yuck!
Me too 😆
How does an obvious hair get left?
That is the 1 million dollar question
