maya opened up to lucas in that campfire, which she had never done before. she was vulnerable and she showed her true self. they even filmed a version of the scene in which he KISSES her (we were robbed). i always felt his feelings for maya were deeper than his feelings for riley because with riley it seemed like he only liked her because that's how it was written. but with maya, he could see that, beneath that tough exterior, there was a girl who just wanted to be loved and maya saw how lucas cared about the things she cared about and understood her. honestly, the whole thing with "maya becoming riley" because she evolved as a person was an ass pull of astronomical proportions and i will never forgive them for that. what was wrong with her getting better grades, behaving and having hope? and how could she only like lucas to "check if he was right for riley" when the reason she liked him was because he was interested in HER art and HER growth, both as an artist and as a person? in fact, he seemed to be the ONLY one who didn't think causing trouble was who maya was and that there was nothing wrong with her getting better. that whole storyline was bullshit and i am still angry about it.

The main issue I have with this is that these kids are only freshmen in high school. When Cory went through this he was a senior and he knew he was in love with Topanga, Lauren was just a momentary distraction. Lucas is being indecisive because he probably feels like he has to choose someone to be with forever. He is not Cory and it is extremely rare for someone to end up with their high school sweetheart. I wish they had let the characters date other people a bit before starting this love triangle thing. At this point I'd rather they all move on and none of the three should date each other. I'd rather Riley date Zay. He is the most enjoyable character and when he said he'd choose Riley it wasn't even real but it seemed more believable than Lucas expressing his feelings.

Riley loved the idea of having a boy friend/prince in her life. And that was what Lucas was. A prince charming to her town full of horses and princesses. Maya on the other hand was obviously having a gigantic crush on Josh. It was a crush. Everything was pointing towards a crush. Josh didn't even actually think about her in that way until the final season. It was rushed. On the other hand, let's look at Lucaya and Riarkle. Technically, Maya was the first one who dated Lucas. Even if it was just for a few seconds, the moment was there. However, their relationship was much more organic. It wasn't love at first sight for both of them. It started as a low key rivalry between friends, sweet and cute moments towards each other, then more intimate feelings by the end. The camp fire scene was so well done that it buried Rucas away like a landslide. Riley and Farkle are much more organic in a simpler way. They were childhood friends that grew to love each other in time. It's a simple concept that we haven't gotten much of in romantic stuff lately and it just shows how friends usually become lovers as they grow. It's simple but the beauty lies in it. Extra credit, Lucaya and Riarkle both got partnered up in history and chemistry together. However Rucas was only in History. Riarkle is pretty obvious in that stand point. They were childhood friends so hence the history. And the have great interactions so they have great chemistry. Lucaya I think is a bit more complex. Their chemistry is exceptional just like Riarkle but the confusing part is history. I believe it's because they both appreciate each other in their past and their present. Lucas respected Maya's nature and protected her when the time came. Maya liked his side as the cow boy he was back home and appreciated it even when Riley didn't. The fact that Rucas only has history shows that it was probably going to be something from the past. Sadly, a fourth season couldn't do both ships right. Extra credits 2: Maya was the only person that actually met Lucas's mother.
The camp fire scene was Lucas's FRUSTRATION with Maya finally boiling over. It was about Lucas trying to get Maya to finally just SHUT UP, to get her to finally STOP MAKING FUN OF HIM.
In the first episode, Maya only went over to talk to Lucas in order to show RILEY how to talk to Lucas, because RILEY was too shy to go over and talk to Lucas on her own.
This is my favorite part because when Farkle says "who makes you feel like blahlalala?" if I was Lucas i would have picked Riley. They should be together

To be honest, I didn't ship any of them but I can tell Smarkle, Lucaya, Riarkle act more like a couple than Rucas. They need more development and build up storyline, but the writers keep cutting their scenes. It's like the writers made them look like a joke. And this whole "Maya becomes Riley" thing is really stupid, you can't be someone else just because you dress like them. If Farkle starts wearing blue shirts and is good at sports like Lucas, does that mean Farkle become Lucas? I think the writers don't know how to end this triangle because Riarkle and Lucaya have more chemistry than Rucas so they made this stuff up

This is years late, but... Maya said that he needed someone like her to tear him down (doesn’t sound like relationship goals). She couldn’t even have a conversation with him because when he told her a story about his life she couldn’t listen and dumped two smoothies on his head. Then she said that Riley is the person who builds him up. Riley actually enjoyed listening to what he had to say, and she was always encouraging. Maya never really had feelings for Lucas the way that Riley did, and he never loved her the way he loved Riley. When Maya was pretending to be Riley, she got her own feelings mixed up with Riley’s, which is why she was so confused about how she felt, and she never fully returned to being herself.

A big part of that is because of the way the rest of the episodes aired. See after Girl Meets True Maya, the rest of the season aired completely out of order, thus making continuity and any semblance of story seem whack and nonexistent. Chronologically, Girl Meets She Don't Like Me comes after True Maya, then Sassy Halter Top (aka Real World), then Great Lady Of New York, then I Do, and THEN Ski Lodge. Yeah those episodes I mentioned may have aired after Ski Lodge but they were filmed BEFORE

Lucas has strung Riley and Maya along for way too long, he didn't say what HE feels for a long time, and clearly he was emotionally confused. So Lucas fell for Riley because of a coincidence. But he fell for Maya because of who she is.
A lot of Rucas shippers just focus on the part wherein Lucas says that it was always Riley. However, we Lucaya shippers focus on the fact that they chose each other for each other.
Rucas and Joshaya are both fantasies. "Josh is a fantasy. You don't date a fantasy. You just like thinking about it all the time." Maya said. And I agree with her. She said it jokingly at the show but I think it's more serious in comparing the ships.
Riley loved the idea of having a boy friend/prince in her life. And that was what Lucas was. A prince charming to her town full of horses and princesses. Maya on the other hand was obviously having a gigantic crush on Josh. It was a crush. Everything was pointing towards a crush. Josh didn't even actually think about her in that way until the final season. It was rushed.
On the other hand, let's look at Lucaya and Riarkle.
Technically, Maya was the first one who dated Lucas. Even if it was just for a few seconds, the moment was there. However, their relationship was much more organic. It wasn't love at first sight for both of them. It started as a low key rivalry between friends, sweet and cute moments towards each other, then more intimate feelings by the end. The camp fire scene was so well done that it buried Rucas away like a landslide.
Riley and Farkle are much more organic in a simpler way. They were childhood friends that grew to love each other in time. It's a simple concept that we haven't gotten much of in romantic stuff lately and it just shows how friends usually become lovers as they grow. It's simple but the beauty lies in it.
Extra credit, Lucaya and Riarkle both got partnered up in history and chemistry together. However Rucas was only in History.
Riarkle is pretty obvious in that stand point. They were childhood friends so hence the history. And the have great interactions so they have great chemistry.
Lucaya I think is a bit more complex. Their chemistry is exceptional just like Riarkle but the confusing part is history. I believe it's because they both appreciate each other in their past and their present. Lucas respected Maya's nature and protected her when the time came. Maya liked his side as the cow boy he was back home and appreciated it even when Riley didn't.
The fact that Rucas only has history shows that it was probably going to be something from the past.
Sadly, a fourth season couldn't do both ships right.
Extra credits 2: Maya was the only person that actually met Lucas's mother.

In the first episode, Maya only went over to talk to Lucas in order to show RILEY how to talk to Lucas, because RILEY was too shy to go over and talk to Lucas on her own.

A big part of that is because of the way the rest of the episodes aired. See after Girl Meets True Maya, the rest of the season aired completely out of order, thus making continuity and any semblance of story seem whack and nonexistent. Chronologically, Girl Meets She Don't Like Me comes after True Maya, then Sassy Halter Top (aka Real World), then Great Lady Of New York, then I Do, and THEN Ski Lodge. Yeah those episodes I mentioned may have aired after Ski Lodge but they were filmed BEFORE

Its obvious that Rucas wont work for the simple reason that Riley fell in love with a concept. Not Lucas. From the first day they met, Riley looked at Lucas like he was her Prince charming, and the moment she found out about his Texas side, she tried to opress it. She only sees one side of Lucas which is his good side. Once she sees Lucas for who he really is and not some perfect guy, she wont like him and they wont work out.
