Obviously it was written/performed by a Japanese woman who doesn't/didn't have the best grip on the English language, so some of the lines might sound like nonsense, but it's just a case of artistic expression being lost in translation, I'm sure. In a word, the song equates to dreaming/being in love to flying, and how having a job and being stuck on the ground is... boring/hard to deal with; this is why I believe the word "reed" in the line "We have more reed under my feet" makes the most sense. I saw elsewhere the line being interpreted as "They ask under my feet" but the "ask" sound is actually a snare sample making it seem like the word "ask" -- but using WavePad to isolate the vocals, it sounds clearly like "We have." And more to the point, it absolutely makes a lot more sense to say "reed under my feet" as an analogy about being awake/in reality for a Japanesse person -- long story short, reeds are symbolic, they can be interpreted literally as just being out in the fields AND as some sort of supernatural/dreamy place. Anyhoo, kind of ahead of its time when nowadays we use the term "touch grass" to mean "go outside," which is just another way of telling someone to stop living in a fantasy (or a dream world, if you will). You know, "your head is always in the clouds?" Or, as the song puts it, "I live by the moon..." [EDIT: It was pointed out that the lyric might actually be "And the Earth moving under my feet" so I put it next to it! It's probably more correct but I can't be sure, it's probably the hardest line to hear clearly.] Another thing that motivated me a lot to get the lyrics down exactly is because I couldn't find the backing vocals in certain verses, which are obviously the hardest part to hear at all, much less clearly. But I succeeded! The part that really gets me is the "Hey, won't you kill me once I can't fly? How do you think it feels? (Once I can't fly?)" I'll just let that sit. I remember back in the mid-2000s my mom had this music video collection on DVD that my sister and I used to watch over and over again. So many of the videos on that DVD had this kind of dreamlike feel to them. So much so that, despite never even hearing this song before, it feels like the soundtrack of a distant memory.
It's criminal that music like this got overlooked back then. If only people had a wider taste in music in other parts of the world it would have taken off. I've been a fan of dnb, techno, jazz dnb (ltj bukem and goodlooking record label) since the 90s. Music like this was underrated in the 2000s, with the advent of digital music making pop music more lucrative. In the U.S. you would likely prioritize pop music on your 50mb mp3 player leaving obscure music like this relegated to CDs which are pretty hard to upkeep and share as physical medium. Music like this was mainly heard in clubs and public spaces where one was able to play their cds and vinyl records for a crowd making it more underground.
Dnb was pretty popular in Japan for whatever reason. Thats why a lot of Japanese games during its peak had some sort of drum & bass in it's soundtrack. rly loving the resurgence gen z's doing tho ^_^ one of my fav dnb artists ever is bye2... she's uber talented
@yaoimessiah yeah, I've heard some of her work. A lot of the newer stuff I've compiled into playlists on SoundCloud, the newer sounding stuff can sound amazing a lot of the time, however a lot of the 300+ bpm stuff can begin to sound hazy.
The sad thing is: people did have a wider taste of music when this came out. Despite streaming and the compartmentalization of music subgenres, they're now more insular and echo chambers; then excessive homogenization for the mainstream

As soon as i looked at this thumbnail, i knew what i would feel hearing it, i knew roughly the style, despite never hearing it before, and damn i love that just by looking at the little bit it shows, you know its good shit

Found this in a Playstation mix and I have to say I love the lyrics flowing along with the music. Makes me want to at least buy these old school games and play them in my free time.
i'm glad this song is still somewhere on the internet because it got removed off of spotify and i thought it was lost forever
Damnnnn this is a bop. Cant even comprehend the lyrics.

Bye2 is so good
The sad thing is: people did have a wider taste of music when this came out. Despite streaming and the compartmentalization of music subgenres, they're now more insular and echo chambers; then excessive homogenization for the mainstream
ive haven't heard a song so addicting in a while
1:05 Internet has corrupted me to think it's "Sussy World". Just looked up the lyrics, and it's "Sunset World".
Why do I keep seeing in the comments that a man is singing? The singer of Date of Birth (Dob) is "Noriko," a woman.

MEGA-MAN COMMAND MISSION. Capcom SAMPLED THIS SONG FOR THAT GAME. I was wondering why the lyrics felt familiar. Inmade a beat with that song. You can hear the vocals!!
the vocals were probably on a sample cd and sampled from that in both cases
Which song from Command Mission?
You mean parts? That doesnt sound the same at all with the lyrics.
OMG I actually remember when this wasn’t a popular song just a year ago!
This is so great, thank you so much for giving this song the much needed love it deserves y’all! ❤😊
I have never once heard of this game and now I want to listen to the whole soundtrack
went on a walk listening to this it was a transcendant experience
thank you agamatsu
It’s sad this was the band’s (Planet DOB) last official album out but I can’t even be sad cuz they went out with a fucking bang.
The band is actually called "Date of Birth".
As soon as i looked at this thumbnail, i knew what i would feel hearing it, i knew roughly the style, despite never hearing it before, and damn i love that just by looking at the little bit it shows, you know its good shit
This song was way ahead of its time. If this track got released in 2023, it would definitely gain some popularity

@@VampyKitsunewow, you're very well informed. Thanks for the info
@@VampyKitsune Most people in the U.S. have bad taste in music, in general.
@erik7593 no arguing with you there. There's no real diversity in taste.
@@shin-ishikiri-noMy country (Brazil) unfortunately is also at this level. We have cutting-edge music, but people insist on listening to the most rotten mainstream music, it's sad to see our entire culture becoming something "elderly" or "underground"

This is insane how tf did the game warrant such a good song
It's a playlist from a Date Of Birth album mislabeled. The album is indeed samples and uses loops for the game. Anything with lyrics isn't on the game soundtrack.
So glad I discovered this!
love the vocals
What an outstanding track! Also here from the Jungle PSX Mix. Such a bop, this could have been big on it's own. Many pop girlies are trying to get to this sound in 2023. WTF!!!

Planet Dob is where infamous Dobson now resides. After being exiled from the internet due to family mishap, Dobson lives out the rest of his days on Planet Dob, making art that only he will see, just so his brother can keep his government job.

HOW did I not hear this before
man, it's like a song that is supposed to be famous in a parallel universe but it somehow leaked into our timeline. Seriously, how did an amazing track like this go unnoticed? It also feels so ominous how this band just faded away after this game/album dropped. I wonder if the artist are aware of how they've been blowing up recently.
