Nice, was in Carbo Frio last year. I was looking at land inside the so call gated community with the lake. Since I don't know the language very well , decided not to. But it's a beautiful peaceful area. The food there was excellent and inexpensive .Good Luck!

$40,000 is an amazing price for that property, I almost can't believe it considering 5 years ago I was looking at getting a house about the same size on the Ecuador coast about a similar 2 - 21/2 blocks back from the beach and it was $70,000 and Ecuador is known for having some of the cheapest coastal property in all of latin America.
Which is why I bought it. If you knew the area you'd also recognize how good of a deal it is. Actually another in Rio with good beaches and affordable properties is Guaratiba.

Amazing video! I just bought an apartment - pre construction- in the state north of RIo - Esprito Santo.. The city of Vila Velha ( a mini Rio de Janeiro but with less crime and a higher standard of living) has some AMAZING brand new construction buildings with affordable prices. This whole region is relatively unknown outside of Brazil but is definitely set to explode in the upcoming years

Medellin would be a lot closer to Louisiana, which would help to make our visits back home more frequent. However, Columbia has a bad reputation.

In Brazil it's going to most likely be cement black or clay blocks. I've never used Sip and doubt it's common down there unless I'm wrong. All the construction I see is standard cement block and red blocks

This is a freaking challenge we had to send it to all sorts of exchange houses, one in China. One on Thailand not sure how the seller was getting the money into Brazil from there. Boy do I love Rio De Janeiro however I am having a hard time finding areas to spend time outside of Copa/Ipanema. There is no where that I feel I fit in as a high earning working professional American. Sao Paulo fits much better for me.
You may consider Sao Paulo and Santa Catarina states seaside towns. They are richer and more developed. I also see a lot of potential in Rio Grande do Norte state. Take a look, go there.

You want to achieve your goals without getting into trouble. Rio de Janeiro state is riskier from the investor perspective and not as business friendly as other states.

I have staff and self manage. For current airbnbs the most important thing is to have reliable cleaners. The actual guest management isn't an issue.

Airbnb is more profitable and allows me to use the property when I want.
Regarding where its all a matter of what's most important to you me I wanted to be near the beach.
