I would definitely want it peeled, but I'd be too worried about doing a bad job and ruining it. I think even the professional peelers struggle sometimes.
I just found your channel. What a collection! Congratulations on finding The Beatles Butcher album. That is so incredible. The 2nd state like you have is becoming more rare. Hang on to that one and in the future buy one that has already been peeled. That's just my opinion. Way to go!
It's great fun to watch your videos and experience vicariously the thrill of digging through record collections and finding good stuff. I'm always hoping we hear more about who's collection it was and how much you paid. And especially in this case how the albums were kept in such good and why so many were still sealed.
Hey John! As a business, what we paid for collections isn't something we discuss with the public. We will say that we pay very well depending on the collection itself, quality, artists, etc. Thanks for watching!
Nice find on the Beatles record. I have rough looking third state Butcher cover pulled as a freebie out of hoard of 6,.000 records a friend and I were invited to dig through years ago.
Great video! I know it's old, but last year I saw a copy of the MC5's Kick Out The Jams on LP with the original liner notes. It was 80 bucks and I put it back. Regretted it. Went yesterday, and it was obviously gone. The guitarist died recently and I justified that it is why I couldn't find it. Doubt it even lasted a week there! Lol
Whoa. That is truly a legendary record. I definitely wouldn't peel the cover, i feel like the sticker on top is pat of the history. did you all end up peeling it? Congrats on the find, it will be really hard to top that one.
You guys found some really cool albums! I would have flipped over that A Clockwork Orange soundtrack, lol, it's one of my favorite movies. Thanks for sharing!
Floyd’s Obscured By Clouds is fantastic! Check out the tracks Burning Bridges, Wots...Uh the Deal, and Stay (which is one of my favorite songs by Rick Wright).
Hey Mark, Dani..... wouldn’t peel the 2nd State....it’s worth more as is ( not that you would ever sell it ) . Very cool of you to offer more than the asking price. I saw one at the Emporium in Strasburg Va back in 2005 , and the dealer was asking $2,200 ....it was obviously a 3rd state ( peeled) but it was cool looking........kinda wished I bought it . Anyway.....incredible find ! Hope to visit your store in the not too distant future ( I’m in Woodstock Va ) thanks for sharing the videos . Wonder if you sell slightly used new release albums also ? Thanks....Terry
Thanks Terry for the comment! Yes we always try and treat people fair with collection buys. The karma gods have been good to us haha. Yea we sell new and use vinyl. We stock new releases every week at the shop. Also get trades every week of gently used newer albums and vintage ones! Tune in to our Facebook page as we have been running live record sales almost every Saturday night and are shipping anywhere! Hope to see you soon. Thanks!
Might be the wrong place to post this but I'm here, you're here, we're here! I have several hundred records from the rock band Queen: first pressings, alternate covers, Taiwan issues, Japanese with OBIs, 12" singles, white label promos, test pressings, rare live bootlegs, box sets.... plus all of the same from all solo members and solo bands. I'm trying to sell as ONE piece... but I also know what it's worth...
Also, check that freewheelin to make sure it's not the first (mistake) press with the alternate songs. Highly unlikely but worth checking as the mistake pressing is worth buttloads of cash. There are entire website pages dedicated to the mistake first press to give you all the info you need. However You may have to open it up to confirm the matrix numbers. Is the blonde on blonde a first press with the girl inside the gatefold? Also check for a first press on the stones hot rocks. Info on discogs and other places as how to identify one. First pressees contain alternate mixes of "brown sugar" and "wild horses"
Don’t peel it! Too many have been peeled already. Your copy documents how the second cover was pasted over the butcher cover. Best to keep it the way it is since it’s in such great shape. Just find another copy that’s already peeled if you want to see the butcher.
Do not peel! If you want to see a better under image, go to a stamp store and get the fluid they use to make the watermarks visible on stamps. It does not harm the paper but it will make it more transparent. A stamp collector suggested I use Zippo lighter fluid in place of the watermark fluid, works just fine. No trace when it dries. Be sure to remove the record first and do not reinsert the record until the fluid dries and the smell goes away.! P.S. - Great score!!!
Oh wow, you pair have what I have. The Woodstock albums part one and two plus Atom Hart mother, Jimmy Cliff, Issac Hayes, Jimmy Hendrix, Jefferson airplane long before they tragically became starship, love, Bob Dylan but mostly punk rock is what I collect. I did have that Emerson lake and Palmer album, it looks like I'm going to have to buy it again. Caravan, the nice, focus and king crimson are worth checking out. I collect the Doors plus the velvet underground. Jazz fusion disco funk is what I like buying too. I see I have nearly the same taste as your selves. I will have to make you a video of my record collection and tastes sometime when I can.
I like the Bob Dylan "Highway 61 Revisited" and "Bringing It All Back Home" with the original hype stickers on, clearly indicating first pressings. Also the "Who Sell Out' with the hype sticker and a copy of the "Happy Jack" album on Decca. All looking like near mint copies! Even those original Country Joe and the Fish albums looked intriguing. Also fascinating to find two copies of the Bee Gees "Odessa" with the original felt cover. But of course, finding that second state "Yesterday and Today" album was awesome!
We do! Www.backtothemedia.com we just launched it tho so are currently integrating our used products through our discogs there and new vinyl. We are a recognized dealer for Audio Technica and can get you any new release vinyl aswell! We have also been doing Facebook Live record Auctions every Saturday on our Facebook page!
I have a mono copy of the paste-over and in my opinion, don't peel it because too many are peeling theirs making 2nd states rarer. Congratulations on your find.
there is a way to get them off i dunno, the butcher cover is sought after but you wouldnt want to stuff it up, like you say it may be worth just as much without removing it.
I have to be honest during the video I scrolled down to the comments and saw a bunch of comments saying "don't peel it" And I must admit I thought that at the end of the video you were going to hold up a copy of Velvet Underground & Nico with the banana skin intact lol. But a second state butcher cover is really awesome too!
I have that LP too - has the orange sticker on the cover. Since the Big F were John Crawford and Rob Brill from the band Berlin I thought I might like it, but it’s definitely not a synth pop album!
Fabulous collection. Congratulations. NEVER peel a Butcher cover. 2nd state is always worth more than 3rd state. @ 12:57 you flip past a stereo Casino Royale soundtrack. Those are worth a lot in good condition.
I own about 20 second and third state Butchers, including a still seal mono second state. That mono, still in shrink, copy in NM condition is worth approximately $2K in today's market. This was a great show and if you ever need a lesson in Beatle Records, I'm your guy... I own about $500K worth of just the Beatles... I also have a World Class collection of Doo-Wop records and some notable LPs, like an unplayed, mint, 1st Stamper copy of Elvis's first LP, still sealed 1st pressings of early Pink Floyd, Stones, Led Zeppelin, Doors, etc... Good Score and let me know if you want to sell your NM Beatles stuff.
I was i a record sop i Vermont the day after seeing Elvis Costello. There was a tote of albums tat ad just come in and ad't been checked i or priced. I poured over the Gen X, Siousie and so on and found the Cure's Three Imaginary Boys. Asked the dude for a price on a handful and bought them. The Cure album e tagged at $50, well over my standard limit, but I ad never ad my hands on a copy in my 40+ years ad would I ever again...? that $50 copy turned out to be a $150 version. Never selling it, but good to know ;)
Don't peel it. Yours is the Mono one. There was some awesome Soundtrack albums in there Especially the "Clockwork Orange" and a lot of Quadrophonic LP's as well, Makes me wonder if they had a Quad-Amp around that you missed. Nice lot there. Glad you upped the price, Not a lot would have done that. When it comes to my Daughter selling the 100.000+ singles and again in CD singles and albums (The biggest lot being Demo's) I hope the one She chooses will be a Good as you were. Just cause She's a girl, don't ever think She don't know what's what.
That Zeppelin album looks like it is a test pressing. That Beatles album is a cool Holy Grail. It is a 50/50 thinking about peeling them. I would thing I would leave it the way it is. Just my opinion. My Grail album is a Led Zeppelin/ Dusty Springfield "In Store Use Only" promotional album for the first Zeppelin release. Great Video. Can't wait to see more of them.
It's a bootleg. NOT a test pressing. Those test presses clearly state what they are. These plain labels with a 1 and 2 sides are boots. Play it, it likely is a bootleg recording from one of the concerts. Some were terrible sound quality and a few sounded decent. Other Boots from that era were outtakes from recording sessions, basically other versions of the released songs. But collectors still want them anyway.
Suggestion for you giys: you have a store full of retro games. Take some of your favorites, by system, and do a showcase, with game play and talk about them. You'll get lots of views.

I wouldn’t peel it off. Sometimes I can’t even get an old price sticker off a cover without tearing off part of the cover. Can’t imagine trying to get the whole “cover” off.
No, don't peel it because soon enough they will be scarce as everyone has peeled many many of them over the years and they are becoming rarer than rare. I have both, a mono ($5) and a stereo (traded some common records for another mono and he hands me a stereo) Also have a beautifully peeled mono ($500. twenty years ago) and an 8 track with a butcher cover. It's counterfeit but cool.
Tarkus...not the name of the band. Put that with your ELP collection. It's the name of the album not the band.... great stuff ! with the cello still on it! Crazy good!
