    Just want to say the 94 is a straight 2 stroke and the 91 is a 4 stroke, like you said. But the 2 stroke is valveless, while the 91 has valves. The valves need to be adjusted every 50-75 hours while the 94 never needs adjusting. Not a big deal as valve adjusting isn’t difficult but for someone that wants similar power and less maintenance, the 94 might be the better option.

    I just recently bought a 94R and if I had to cut my way through the Amazon this is definitely the trimmer I’m taking. The power to weight ratio is amazing and the fuel life is amazing. I’ve been cutting the same path with other timers and I typically know when I’m gonna need to refuel. With the 94R I got to that point and kept on going and trimmed for another 20-30 minutes before I needed to refuel. (I had already been going for 30-40 minutes) I’m in love with this trimmer just wish I was able to attach an edger to it.

      I Just bought a 94R. I haven’t used it. I have about 4 to 5 acres I have to mow. I got the 94R because of the weight. I’ve been doing it with a KM56, and KM90R. They are heavy units but I can change out the head. The 90R has 1.3 HP and when it’s cutting it throws stuff everywhere. I expect the 94R will do the same. Thank for the review. I have found some people like, and some hate it. I can’t say I’m excited to use it. Running any weed eater is hard work.

    Spot on mate! , Been a Sthil man all my life ,l have a 94 ( multi tool head) and a 91r ...( Also a multi tool 90) the 91 smashes tall grass , thick grass...but for finer work its A NIGHTMARE , the 94 is great..the 91r is on the chopping block heading for selling or either winter use only , the 90 multi tool head does a great job .. l just bought a shindawia for my main trimmer now , as just much better control on manicured lawns..Sthils 4 stroke heads , need constant valve checks through out the year, plus the " R" models seem more for thick hard work..there heavy , motor bogs in at too low a revs , the fs85 was a great model, but love the easy start and noise on new shindawia....my trimmer choices have changed as some Sthil trimmers needs to get noise, rev control and starting on there models sorted..but .sthils are still great machines, I had this discussion with Sthil dealer he thought the 91r was good for finer work???? Bit annoyed he sold me the wrong style trimmer...l told him " Not impressed" your review was my exact thoughts on those models..great review

    Note: The power difference between them is negligible; 1.27 bhp (91R) vs 1.20 bhp (94R). I couldn’t tell the difference. Matter fact as a weed eater the 94R inspires more confidence.

    debating between the fs94r and a 4mix, id probably jump up to the fs131r but im concerned ill have reliability issues with the 4mix valves, any experience on this? i dont so lawn care full time but i do alot for family and just hobby projects here and there, some tree removal involves clearing light brush, i like to have an overpowered unit vs an underpowered one even if im carrying uneccesarry weight but im hoping to get a unit to last me 10years or more and the valves seem like a failure point, do they have cams and cam chains or hows that work?

      I’ve actually had better luck with the 91 than my two stroke 94. My 94 is getting a new carburetor put into it as we speak. Very frustrating!

    • @roberta5948
      @roberta5948 4 года назад

      I currently use an fs94 as my primary string trimmmer. I have a 4-mix km130 kombi unit that i use primarily for tools that require more torque, as in the edger, bed redefiner, and brush cutter. I find the large powerhead on the km130 too heavy to use all day just to maintain grass. The fs94 is very lightweight and has good power for its size, perfect for medium length grass but bogs when you dive into long, thick, lush grass. I have had to replace the carb on the 94 almost annually, so that's downfall. The km130 has not given me any trouble with the valves yet, but I do put both units in for service before the start of each season. The tech has adjusted the valves on the 130 but it was only minor and didn't prevent the engine from running, it only smoothed out the idle once adjusted.

    Fantastic video and very informative. We run a campground and often am trimming around campers while the people are there. I have had an awesome Hitachi which weighs about 10 lbs and sounds much quieter than the average 2 stroke. I can do most trimming at very low RPMs... And low engine noise. I'm considering the 56 or the 94. They weight about the same as my Hitachi, but I'm wondering about their exhaust volume. Also the 56 at about $200 vs the 94 at $359 is quite a different. Thoughts?

      Personally I don’t think I will own anything with less power than the 94r. I do have another video where I take the 91r and the 94r through some thick weeds. Even with less power the 94r will get the job done! As to the emissions I really cant compare the two brands. It doesn’t seem that bad. • @roberta5948
      @roberta5948 4 года назад +4

      Stihl's 4 mix engines are 4-stroke engines that use oil mixed gas. The reason is that they do not have an oil sump crankcase like traditional 4-stroke engines. Since there isn't a wet sump crankcase to lubricate the engine internals, lubrication is provided to essential friction points via the fuel mixture. Top end engine components (valves, cam, lifters, etc) are typical to traditional 4-stroke design. The powerbands are different between the 2 types as the 4 mix engine produces better torque values at lower rpm, where the 2-stroke requires higher rpms to produce comparable torque. Each tool has its own strengths and weaknesses in the field.

    I have several 4-mixes, and while I like their powerband - Sithl's engineering sucks. Perhaps I shouldn't expect more than 4-5 years out of modern stuff. The gas tank is too small on the 4-mixes (its not a saddle, but only on one side), and valves need adjusting regularly. Once a small leak happens in any of the gaskets (especially bottom end), they don't run worth a crap. I liken them to a Porsche engine regarding design / maintenance. The two strokes seem to be more robust by their nature and take more abuse. Just my take, as I'm moving away from 4-mix. All the complexity of 4-stroke, coupled with the lubricating limitations of a 2 stroke. If they were a real 4-stroke with a closed sump design, like a Honda, maybe I'd reconsider. All my next machines are 94r's.
