There was speculation that the producers of this show saw Johnny as their biggest star and they realized his fan base would probably not take too kindly to him being with a girl that didn’t look like them
This relationship is just like Uhura and Spock in the original Star Trek series. Teased to the limits of its time period and leaving the fans of the pairing wondering what could have been. This is why I still write fanfiction.
