Thank you for this inspiring sermon. It reminds me of one of my favourite scriptures,
“Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit” John 14:15-31
But if Holy Spirit dwells within us, why say, “Come Holy Spirit”? Is it out of acknowledgment that there might be church visitors who don’t yet have the Holy Spirit dwelling within them? I want to study & understand this more clearly. At the same time I feel the need to acknowledge & celebrate Holy Spirit by proclaiming,
Holy Spirit! We give thanks that, as Christians, you live within each & everyone of us & among us & for all those here today who are yet to know life, with the Holy Spirit living within them, we pray for an outpouring of God’s love, Holy Spirit. For redemption, for salvation, for a life reborn & renewed by the power of your love & for the sacrifice of our glorious Lord Jesus on the cross, for the forgiveness of our sins, life renewed & the blessing of the Holy Spirit who Jesus promised, he will send to live within each & everyone of us. Holy Spirit we are honoured to have you in our presence. Please move through us & among us at this time as a demonstration of the power & the glory of our Heavenly Father God’s love, for each & every one of His children. Amen!
It requires what feels like taking a risk. How might Holy Spirit respond. With the weight of glory? With a powerfully discernible sense of Holy peace , Holy joy? Miraculous acts of healing? Laughter? Tears? I feel so strongly God will not leave His church wanting. We must be brave & bold to have the courage to be conduits for all God might do in the minutes & hours that follow that proclamation of the power of Holy Spirit because He will move. We shouldn’t constrain God, beyond the final minutes of the church service, if we invite Holy Spirit to move through the congregation. He will. Amen!
