- Hello and welcome to Saabkyle04! RUclips's largest collection of automotive variety! In today's video, we'll take an up close and personal, in depth look at the 1955 Ford Thunderbird Roadster. During this presentation, we will take a 1st person look at what the vehicle is all about beginning with the start up, performance data, fuel economy, the occasional track data, and build quality. Also, I will teach you how to use most of the interior and exterior features in a detailed fashion, that before, you could only get from going to a dealership yourself! Throughout the video, I will highlight key styling and unique differences about the vehicle, any available options, and of course it would not be an enthusiast car video without the good ole engine portion with rev and exhaust note with interior and exterior perspectives. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

One of the best looking and most tasteful american cars imo. The styling was not overdone like many other cars of that era, the whole car is just art from every perspective and the amount of details everywhere is astounding. It has a certain european touch to it, which maybe is why I'm liking it so much.
swordfish1986 it kind of looks like a Mercedes
This was wayyyyy ahead of its time..
How
Pretty typical 50’s characteristics
That window is pretty quick lmao
Jon Muchwano huh?
Pastel colors were quite popular in the mid to late 50s.
we should bring em back
Yeah in my grandma's house they'res a light yellow themed bathroom, and a light pink bathroom. In my house I have a pastel blue bathroom
About 1952-1965 roughly
This is the most beautiful car I've ever seen in my entire life. Incredible. Cherish it forever.
Directly from the GOLDEN AGE of America, a proud survivor!
What I mostly miss in the United States, currently, is that common though of "sky is the limit for happiness and achievement" people used to feed in 50s.
I hope Golden Pride returns one day. Sincerely.
The Thunderbird is awesome. Me and my dad are fixing up his '64. Thanks for the review.
Hope that goes well for you have fun. I’m fixing up a 91 Thunderbird super coupe
If there was to be a TV series set in the mid '50s, about an Australian immigrant (played by me, being an Australian in real life of course), starting a new life in America, this would be the car he'd drive in that series, in light blue base colour, with a white roof. Arguably, the greatest thing to come out of Detroit in the mid '50s.
Good job affording it! They were affordable, but maybe spring for a Sears Allstate or a Plymouth Savoy
I'm in love, this thing is such a beaut'. One of the most iconic, classic cars ever made by in the USA. The good ole days.
I'm British, so bear that in mind when I say that I am in LOVE with this American car...this is unusual for Europeans, to like US cars... :P
I miss the 50’s
@@fluffymacaw933 yeah a great time. Unfortunately there were some issues with segregation, but it was pretty much in the south, up in the north most people didn't care. My great uncle was a hot rodder back then
I love the way he says interior
Mafia 2 brought me here.
A great resource for classic car lovers
what a beauty
Damn those are some fast power windows!
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. in this case everyone's a beholder!
Wow those wipers are state of the art.
sweet ride to cruise around in
That's one beautiful car.
Saabkyle you make the best car review's.
Such a great beutifal car! I'm sitting in my dad's 1965 convertible mustang while watching this
Ive been wanting to see a video on this since FOREVER I FREAKING LOVE YOU KYLE!
Man I love these old cars. The engine compartment is nice and clean. Sparks, engine, radiator and that's basically it. No other wires. Good video
Thats your opinion. Each generation is unique in their own ways.
The average salary around this periods of the 1950s was about $5000. The average nice home was about $5000.
A loaf of bread would have cost no more than 20 cent and a bag of potatoes about 5 cent. No wonder it was called the American dream with cars and purchasing power like that.
Even a working class person felt like European upper middle class.
Your figures are off on salaries as well as home prices.
And then the boomer generation who grew up in the 60s fucked the country up for future generations.
@@metelicgunz146 How did they screw up the country?
Mr Angelo? Mr. Salieri sends his regards.
That car has beauty right there :DDDD
It is a beauty till you go to the gas pump several times...
One of the most beautiful cars ever made...
Another excellent review. Appreciate your attention to detail. The '55 T-Bird was a beautiful car but it is amazing how primitive these cars were compared to modern vehicles.
i never knew that vehicles had power windows and seat controls back then.
that's a sweet looking machine for sure!
3 transmissions: Three speed manual. Three speed manual with electric overdrive. And the Ford-o-matic which was a THREE speed in the 50s (in the 60s it was a two speed). The Ford-o-matic started out in 2nd gear under normal driving. If you went WOT it would kick down to low from a standing start .Or you could manually select low, then manually select drive. If you then went back into low, it would lock into 2nd gear until you selected drive again.
The 3spd.Cruisematic was offered until 1962. A more budget all aluminum 2spd. automatic was offered in 59.
Gorgeous ford and there used to be a plant up in Mahwah NJ that assembled these cars until closure in the 1980s.
You can keep your Lexus, your Mercedes and your BMW, I want this. Truly a gorgeous machine.
Pretty car, very cool never seen one of these . All those thunderbirds even into the 60s had some cool mechanical stuff always going on ...
Great review! I'm happy to see this one!
That... is such a beautiful car. Oh my god, I'm so jealous.
Smith Thunderbolt (Mafia 2) FTW!!!
As far as reliability is concerned, of course some things on modern cars are more reliable, but older cars were cheaper and easier to fix. I don't think cars being built today would hold up for 50+ years. About the 5 digit odometers, well you have to understand most people back then would buy a new car every 1 to 2 years.
Every year?? Bullsh...
Lovely car! True American classic
Streetside Classics, the retirement home for classic cars :D
I have a 56,,,,love the little Birds
Wow. Such a beautiful car.
that is the best design for a car ever
Can't wait to see your Riviera!
Beatiful car
mmmm this car parked infront of the typicals 1950 coffee shops mmm nice. the gold era of cars....
Great vid as always Kyle!
Those power windows don't fuck around lol.
What a beautiful car!
This is my dream car.
Love how the exhaust is in the bumpers
This is the car that got me interested in cars
It looks like a palace car honestly. But isn't that how things were made in the 1950's? It's good that they had the style they did then. Modernity is nothing in comparison to the chrome streamlined style of the 1950's. Frigidaire Unimatic washing machines of that era looked just as spectacular. I myself own a 50's washing machine (1959 Hoovermatic 3174) which is very nice, and it does have it's fair share of steamlined 1950's architecture... not quite as much as American machines however because Hoover were Welsh and the UK didn't always make things quite as rich-looking as Americans did. Certainly not with appliances except for really my Hoovermatic, for it competes in a way that it does have a bit of rich 1950's streamlined achitecture on it.
At the moment my washing machine is in pieces undergoing repairs to be able to wash again with minimal if any leakages.
I think I now want a Thunderbird honestly in addition to a Model T. Especially in Turquoise and it must be one from 54 - 57.
Stunning architectural design all the way around! Bring back more of the 1950's streamlining people!
Beautiful Car! Great video.
gotta love your fords!!!
MR ANGELO MR SALIERI SENDS HIS REGARDS BANG!
The best looking of American car 🥰
Saabkyle04 why don't you put the tops up on convertibles and show the process?
God I love that color my 57 Chevy has that color body paint with a white roof. Had her since my parents died
Beautiful car!
Now THAT is a T-Bird
Very nice car. Very nice...
love this TODAY
What a beautiful car.
Actually the name came from a ford employee who got the name from a coffee mug image
GORGEOUS car
The 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner had an electric retractable hard top. There's a video of it here on YT.
Good looking car. My only pet peeve with it is the color.
Awesome find, Kyle-- thanks!
THANKS FOR THE AWESOME VIDS AND LOL NO ONE IS BEING A BABY AND SAYING "O IM 1ST" ABOUT TIME IT STOPPED
Nice My Grandpa Had A White Square Bird 1958 In Late 70's But That Was Not My Time Born In Late 80's I Would Still Like To See That Black Thunderbird Kyle.
I'd love to still have cars like this today but with all the environmental and safety regulations it's hard to actually make something as nice as this T-Bird and all the awesome cars from the golden ages.
Hey Kyle, I always wondered - will you do reviews for all the cars (or most of them) in the garage you are showing in the intro (If you have time of course)? Because I've seen a lot of cool ones :))
EXCELLENT VIDEO
WHERE CAN I GET THIS HEAVEN???
Gorgeous!
beautiful machine :)
haha its funny because that "thin sheet metal that dents so easily" is what saves people lives today...
I love '50s cars. My favorite detail about them are the back headlights that resemble fins or wings.
I really like your channel

I love watching your videod. I found you a while back watching saab videos and you came up. I'm a saab head lol but I don't know if you do request but if you can do the Isuzu Vehicross there aren't many informative videos on it so it would be awesome if you ever had the chance to do one. Thanks :]

@saabkyle04 I noticed that you said "leaded" gas while you were describing the EPA figures what precisely is leaded and unleaded gas?
It is nice I think Bonnie is Going to buy it

The 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic wasn't available until 1958. Interesting fact about the two-speed Ford-O-Matic: It was, in fact, a 3-speed transmission, only it lacked the clutch-pack to engage the lowest gear automatically. If you started from a dead stop, with the gear-selector in "L", it would be in the lowest possible gear-ratio that it had. Stomp on the gas-pedal, and when it nears red-line, pop it into "D", then back into "L", and it'll shift into the middle gear (a.k.a. passing gear or second gear). Then when it reaches red-line again, put it in "D" and you'll be in the 1:1 gear (a.k.a. high-gear or third gear). That's three distinct gear ratios! If you start off with the gear-selector in "D", it would begin in 2nd gear (a.k.a. passing gear) and would then switch to the 1:1 ratio 3rd gear (a.k.a. high gear) -- it would never automatically engage the lowest gear-ratio when the gear-selector lever was in "D". That was fixed in the Cruise-O-Matic in 1958 -- it was capable of using all three gear ratios of the planetary gearset automatically, and you could manually select any of the three gear-ratios also (hence the reason Ford called it a "Select-Shift Cruise-O-Matic).
You know your stuff, he didn't.
I want that car.
beautiful car kyle
classic
The engine sounds nice
Couple of observations: This car has been converted to 12 volts, hence the rapid action the window motors. There were only three trans choices: 3spd, 3spd with OD and Ford-O-Matic, which was a three speed trans, which normally started in 2nd gear. No 4 spd trans was offered. The automatic and OD cars had a 198 HP 292, the 3spd cars had 195 HP. Many of these were factory equipped with both top options. The body is not fiberglass, it is all metal. This car is "Thunderbird Blue" It is missing the optional back-up lamps which were located above the tail lamps. The master cylinder is incorrect, but the booster is correct. The steering column could be telescoped by turning the knurled collar. The wipers are not vacuum assisted, but rather operated. The was an optional vacuum booster incorporated into the fuel pump, normally they would operate on manifold vacuum. The 55 does not have and was not ever equipped with sun visors, nor the porthole hardtop.
Awesome car!
lovely, and these power windows, jeez xD
LINDO, LINDO ESTE T-BIRD QUE PARECE DE NO HACE MUCHOS AÑOS...¡ LUCE MODERNÍSIMO ! ¡ GRACIAS POR ESTE VIDEO !
can't wait for the zl1!!!
can you do a review of the 2013 genesis coupe?
@saabkyle04 can you do an review of a 2012 ford expidition please by the way your videos are great
Why did the wiper start easing up when you first started it up and revved it?!
omgitsBenjamin Most cars made before the 70's had vacuum wipers, they would run on compressed air, the air compressor started when he turned the engine on. They were terrible to, if you revved the engine too high they wouldn't work well, they wouldn't work well if at all while going up hill and at interstate speeds.
It ran on a vacuum.
Vacuum pressure, old car........
