I bought mine new in 2001.....played perfect right out of the case, even action all the way up and down the neck, still plays the same and has never been set up and doesn't need it.
@@francoishtzl157 Maybe so.....but would probably only be minor tweaks. Does have a static problem with the volume knob however and I've heard a replacement is hard to find.
Ah the "poor man's Ken Smith", I've been lusting after one for a while. These were the halo instruments at my local guitar shop ages ago and they have stood the test of time. Wish I had bought one ~10 years ago when they were like $850 lol.
I've always thought Peavey made great basses. I've never played one I didn't like. This one kinda reminds me of my Ibanez BTB- 35" scale, 2 humbucking soapbars, maple and walnut laminate neck, some pretty figured maple on the top, and a nice punchy 18 volt preamp. Love the hair BTW
A few weeks ago I finally got my Peavey Cirrus for almost 1k Euros. An Indonesia made (not BXP) Tiger Eye Cirrus 4, a gorgeous bass, also no more in production. According to a review in Guitar&Bass magazine these Indonesia made Cirrus basses are not downgraded instruments, like the BXP series is. It's the same hardware, pickups, preamp and electronics as those USA made basses. It plays like a dream, slapping has never been easier. Really happy to own this bass.
Always loved the Peavey Cirrus. I just bought one of the AMAZON IYV 5 string neck thru with the multi laminate walnut body. Mine came with a gorgeous top. 18v 3 band preamp. Unbelievable action and sound. I looks a lot like the CIRRUS. $258 delivered. Unbeatable.
I bought one for my daughter for Christmas a few years back used it was her first bass. Got it for $200 at Guitar Center. That thing plays so well and resonates like crazy. Love the basswood body. My only complaint is the preamp system is so hot I can barely turn the volume up
Cirruses are incredible! I have six altogether, five of which are USAs (Deep Ruby Red 5, Deep Ruby Red 5 fretless, redwood 6, bubinga / wenge 5, maple 5, 2017 reissue USA / Indonesia Tiger Eye 5).
I still love my Peavey AC Milleneum 5. Really nice. Best basses made. And after Peavey "closed" makes me wonder which Indonesian companies retooled their machines to put out what is being made now days in Indonesia. Great basses. My Squire 40th anniversary vintage style Jazz bass (4 strings) plays really good sounds like it should. It is made in Indonesia. Been A lot of fun. I used to bring my American Fender active Jazz bass as a Back up for my Peavey bass. But have been enjoying the 4 string again. No batteries required. Thanks for your demo. Peavey sold a lot of luthier equipment here in the US. That's why they aren't manufactured. (I think) No more vision. They were good basses. I have a few nice worn out US made Fender basses. Started on a Precision. Marcus Miller basses made in Indonesia. Oh Yeah.
I hear and respect your argument and raise you the Peavey Millennium 4 Plus. Hipshot hardware, MM/J pickups, birdseye and flame maple, Xtender stock. And US made for under a grand.
I have a Cirrus now, a US model. Another preamp now, 'mørch' and made a switch so it's passiv as well..boom cool bass. By the way it is a 18 volt bass👍🎵
I don't own one but it's a great bass.If I were a younger guy I'd definitely jump on that train.Peavey makes good stuff at a good price.I have owned their stuff over the years.
yeah i was always aware of the peavey bass thank to the bassbuzz channel and Nate navarro but i really never heard it in a real live situation until i stumble upon that Radical for Christ live and it was a killer sound. it simple it go toes to toes with the ken smith that Fred is playing for the first song. but they suffer from their success and now the cheapest one in my country is 3K euro but 10-15 years ago people would get rid of them for 1k euro.
That’s a bummer they’re that expensive. Here in the states on the used market they go for 1,800 usd - 2,000 usd based on the condition. I think the biggest deciding factor for me when it came to purchasing this was the fact that they are hard to get and an opportunity for me to get one popped up. I don’t regret it one bit.
@@PropS570 yeah 4 and 5 string cirrus are really rare, especially in Europe where they are nearly impossible to find. they are still a few 6 string cirrus available but i already have a good 6 string that will remain my main axe. i'm also a bit anxious about buying such an old instrument where part are no longer available and repair will be a pain in the ass. a good alternative would be a Ken smith burner HF with humbucker. the pickup placement is similar, the string spacing is the same. its expensive but at least they are official builder in USA and japan if you had to repair them.
Right now I play an Ibanez btb pb6. I've loved it since I bought it the preamp was horrible though. Just a junkie bartolini mass-produced thing for ibanez. I wasn't sure if it was the pickups or the preamp but I couldn't replace the pickups because they are an odd measurement. So I started with the preamp. I bought a Delano sonus 2 I think it is and oh my God it changed everything this video is making me think I need to pull the Delano out of this four-string fretless I have and don't use and stick it in that.
Not sure if I would agree with "the best bass ever made", but the USA Cirrus could certainly be the best production bass ever made. Also needs to be said that it has to be the USA Cirrus, not the Vietnamese BXP or the very similar Millenium AC and Zephyr basses. Those are good basses as well, but not even close to the USA Cirrus. I have played three different USA Cirrus basses and they all were exquisitely made! They feel like handmade boutique basses, but were sold for 1/3 or 1/4 the price of a handmade one.
Duuude, love your vid! It's a funny thing my favorite gospel artist is Fred Hammond! He's pretty awesome on the bass too, in my opinion. I'm aware it wasn't him playing the peavey, but had to comment! Also check out Andrew Gouche the Godfather of Godpel bass! Keep it up, love your stuff, man!!
For some good Cirrus 5 material, listen to Otep's "Ascension" album, in particular the main single from it, "Ghost Flowers". Evil J laid down some bad a$$ work on that record!
I've owned 2 Cirrus 4 strings. Dude is spot on about the playability of it. I sold my first one and regretted doing so. Ran across another one years later and didn't hesitate buying it. Happy ever since.
They Definitely rank up there for me as well! I'm a spector guy but the cirrus beats it for me as far as an all around "do everything" bass. I just love the Spector tone more but it's not the best for everything.
@@michaelwhite3478 I think spectors are amazing basses too. A friend of mine is endorsed by them and he’s able to get his hands on some sweet stuff for a discount.
After getting the cirrus I’m totally interested in all the other peavey models I hear people rave about. I hope I get the chance to try it out one day.
I played your bass when I was there about a month ago then. I thought it looked familiar. Have you opened up the back to see what preamp is installed? I don't play 35" scale anymore, but I agree that these are great basses, I had a six string one in high school.

It has certainly move a bit since 2001. If you do a full setup/frets leveling, etc.... it could maybe make that bass even better
@@francoishtzl157 Maybe so.....but would probably only be minor tweaks. Does have a static problem with the volume knob however and I've heard a replacement is hard to find.

Dude the cirrus basses are great!!! I’ve had a 5 string one for like 22 years and go to it often for session work
Awesome Bass. Love them so much, I own 3 Cirrus 5's. 2 Bubingas and 1 walnut.
100% agree, with the Peavey Grind right behind😊

Isn't that the way it goes? I've missed the boat more times than I care to remember.
If you like the Cirrus Basses, I think you would like the Ibanez BTB and SR Series with the Nordstrands.
BTB’s have been on my radar for a while. things like this happen that always get in the way of me getting one
I have the 7 string Ibanez btb!! It's a heavy monster though.. but it comes with bartolini pickups so...
Nice to find another person with my bass collecting obsession.

Yamahas are totally criminally underrated.
