    I was never taught this at school. It's very interesting, but as the numbers get bigger [4, 5 or 6 digits or more] you will quickly run out of paper, so it's not really practical.

  • @user-ot1ct9sl4h
    @user-ot1ct9sl4h 10 месяцев назад +6

    At first this is seems amazing but if you use larger number like 6789, this means you also need to draw many lines and count more points that complicate the calculations.

    • @simonlevett4776
      @simonlevett4776 5 месяцев назад

      This is exactly right it's not that practical. Calculators will always win.

      The important thing about this method is its graphical nature.
      This is what a child would do in class to learn but once you learn to visualize it in your head it becomes much easier and you don't have to draw the lines on paper.
      It's less error prone than multiplication tables and the rote memorization of the western method.

      6:05: How does one know where to draw the zones? Intuition? Is it done in patterns? 1 zone for each intersection?

    • @thezeromath
      @thezeromath  Год назад

      Thanks for the question, the logic is to, Draw the zone around the group of intersections which is closest on the left-hand side, and continue doing so. It requires a bit of practice.
      In the case of 2digit x 3digit, after the first zone would be on the right-hand side, the next closest intersection on the left-hand side would form a zone, now find the next zone by spotting the left-hand side intersection of the existing zone. Hope that clarifies.🙏🏻

      From what I can tell? You pick out the outer most corners into their own sections, and then make sure the lines in between line up with one another. It's like making sure your tens places are in line to keep from getting confused, just diamond shaped

    This video doesnt essentially explain anything. It just shows you how to blindly follow another algorithm. The main question is - why can you even draw the lines in such a way? Why would the intersections be added up and what do they actually represent? And an even better question - what does it mean to multiply two numbers?

      You have to draw a line from the empty space beside the intersection to divide it in a zones. With some little practice you can easily achieve it.
      First try simple multiplication and gradually increase the complexity.
