Love this series. Certifications are a great way for us to keep companies accountable... In theory. We also have to make sure certifications mean what they appear to mean and that means we gotta do our research. 🧐
Thank you! Regarding FSC I would like to mention that even if Scandinavia generally is doing quite good protecting the environment, it isn’t necessarily completely true regarding the forest industry. In Sweden we have old forests cut down regularly because they are not protected. The wood industry is huge and the research on how to do environmental friendly forestry is much too biased. You can actually cut down old forests and “scientifically” claim that it was good for the climate to do so. (Which is completely insane but the companies are supported by biased scientists and national economic interests so...). There is a network in Swedish, Skydda Skogen, if you want to learn more. I am sure this is not unique for Sweden, but I just wanted to make clear that it is not at all perfect here either.
Very useful information! When I buy bananas, I look for the rainforest alliance label, but I still not trust 100%, in general I try to avoid exotic products because they have to travel very far to get to my table. About FSC, is there any alternative wood certification that you would recommend to check as more reliable? I work in architecture and I want to raise awareness on this topic. Also looking forward for WWF video :)
Love this series -- such helpful content! I would love an exploratory series on large NGOs (including WWF). If you haven't read the book "Winners Take All" by Anand Giridharadas you might really enjoy it -- he explores how philanthropy and big NGOs are often more interested in supporting the status quo than they are in real, authentic, significant change (partly because they are funded by industry and the wealthy, many of whom are interested in supporting the existing system while looking like they are doing good). Highly recommend!
I love how you post such different videos then what others are doing, people need to know this kind of information. I find it interesting about certification in general how it is all "bought" and "kind of" means nothing in a way.
It would be awesome for you to do a charity guide! Like which charities actually help reverse/prevent climate change and/or protect animals and ecosystems and which ones are more of a business.
Great part one and two! Cant wait for the next one! Im planning to make a video about sustainability on my channel and definitely i want to mention you, i hope thats alrtight :) You explain everything so well, i cant match my English, knowledge and general vibes! Would love to see a video talking about difference in certificates and labels depending/between europe, america, asia etc.... Just like general conversation about it.. not sure what it would be haha :D
Hi Gittemary, this is some feedback for future videos of this type, but could you consider talking about the labels and then while talking to leave the label in the corner of the screen? Would make it easier to keep track of and refer back to. Thank you.
Thank you Gittemary for this series. I've often wondered about all these certifications. I'm not sure if these qualify for this category, but would you consider the following certifications? LEED-Certified, the Nature Conservancy, EPA, GeSI, SMARTer 2030, and RE100. Thanks again I appreciate all the work that goes into all your videos. ~Blessings!
About FSC. We are small manufacturing company we make cardboard packaging. One of our clients was always working with IKEA. And in 2019 IKEA pushed forcibly FSC label and demanded that all suppliers would get certified with FSC or get dropped if not. So naturally our client demanded that we get certified too. We did. You have to pay huge money to prepare documentation for certification. You have to pay for the certification and You have to pay FSC not small percent to "SCS Global service" witch later forwards money FSC. From the total income of the company and it does not matter if it FSC product or not!!!! Also a yearly audits. This is a scam! Look up they just make a lot of propaganda but no real results. Why you can't comment on any of Their RUclips videos? They feed a lot of leeches like third party accreditation companies. They make yearly small changes so they get something to do and get payed. And we are hostage to the situation because if we loose this client we drop 20% of our income right away. And i bet the client have same issue. So we are forced to feed this scam. Someone got a lot of money in IKEA for this FSC get a lot of money. They make few clips, few seminars and few tools for accreditation people and say "hew we are preserving forest" In developed countries witch already have preservation laws!!! This need a journalist investigation. There is no crime on paper because we did it "voluntarily" and not by circumstances. But you know a lot of companies can't just drop 20% income for some even higher.
In this video, you celebrate GOTS as a "good" certification. I understand this video was made 10 months ago, but did you read the recent NYT article revealing GOTS to be a scam? The certification isn't worth the paper it is written on because the numbers were being reused. I would love to see an update video talking about this. Unfortunately, a lot of companies keep pushing organic cotton and I for one cannot figure out how to ascertain if a product is actually organic cotton.

thank you for doing the research. My takeaway is that we cannot rely on labels anymore, so buying second hand is still (one of the) best options ✌️
You always give out such a positive vibe! 😌😌 Love your content as always!
Please make an impact video on fast food
Thank you so much! And YES, that is a great idea 🙌🌿

BAP certification is hilarious, like I'm setting this house on fire but hey, I'm not using any oil to start the fire!
Great video as always

Can you make a video with Danish specific labels?
Vegan and organic certifications would be interesting
Already covered some vegan certificates in the previous, will definitely include some organic labels in the next video ✨
