One thing that I guess western people don’t get is that in Chinese entertainment industry, celebrities are held responsible for the actions of their fans because as public figures it’s their responsibility to lead their fans to the right direction and show them good examples as role models. Xiao Zhan didn’t do that and him and his team allowed the incident to escalate until it was too late.

There is alot that Stephanie left out probably because of the lack of research.

It was all over the media, and everyone parents of them, children, friends, associates could watch it. It was a big deal, and despite whoever reported it, as an outsider, l am happy AO3 was removed, so was the fanfic, and the blaming, and persecution should have gone to the female student, who for money made this unauthorised fanfic. All her life she should pay back the loss of income, and reputation Xiao Zhan had to suffer because of her. It was never heard much of her, while she should have been in the Negative Headlines. I assume, the real culprits behind the scenes protected this girl for profit reasons, because other actors profited from XZ cancelation. I noticed over the years, that many actors who rise to fame over night in Chinese entertainment are canceled through accusations for this or that like Chris Wu, Zhang Zhehan, ....and others.

This really is just a sucky situtation. Ao3 is a nonprofit organisation and the entire point is to have a totally unregulated platform. The entire point is for people to avoid whatever they want and enjoy whatever they want, hence it's immensley detailed tagging system. Obviously we shouldn't be normalising illegal minor and adult relationships but banning a nonprofit creative outlet was not the way to go. Then again cancelling an actor over what his fans did is yet again really not okay and shouldn't have been done. I hope everybody in this event is doing well now.

I watched untamed after and really liked the story. I did some research and was scratching my head on why Xiao had to pay for something his toxic fans did. I liked something he said afterwards. It went along the lines of how he isn’t the parents of his fans, and his fans have their own free will and some won’t listen to him at all. Literally the only thing that he could have done to maybe help is to talk about it earlier than he did, i don’t even know if it would have changed anything. But it’s literally not a crime he committed, but what his fans did that he in no way encouraged. I also feel so bad for the ao3 users, but also I don’t for a lot of them since they ended up turning their rage towards someone innocent. It’s like someone attacked them, and they stab the perpetrators innocent friend. They were also victims, but they also turned around and became the perpetrator.

It's not even remotely right - it's one thing to be critical of how a celebrity "handles" their fans, and another to dogpile someone to the extent these people did. But it did come from a real place of hurt and need for retribution - and they knew the only thing these fans would care about is their idol. It's shitty all around and honestly I wish people would stop and think about their actions online more - this did not need to escalate. Like come on, reporting a fic to the government? A couple things I want to clarify about this story because the timeline is very important:
    - Produce 101 was before/during the filming of the Untamed, Street Dance of China wasn't until 2020 when Yibo was very famous
    - The "jie" thing wasn't a nickname XZ called him on set, it was a something Yibo later revealed on a reality show was almost his name before "Yibo" was picked instead
    - XZ's really big gucci/tods/etc endorsements came along more recently, long after 227
    - The "its been a year" thing on livestream is hotly contested even among shippers, but I just wanted to clarify it was while they were changing rooms to get to a fan greeting event and bumped into someone XZ previously knew. The question could easily have also applied to it being a year between filming and promoting the drama. It's open to interpretation. If you watch the full clip it's much clearer that it was a surprise thing and they didn't realize the camera was still rolling after they got up from the table to walk. (That whole livestream was really poorly organized. You can't watch it on youtube and even the camerawork is shaky af)

    • @raraavis82
      @raraavis82 7 месяцев назад +73

I agree the "are you already together for a year" is open for interpretation.
It could be interpreted as them being friends for a year.
Or that its been a year after the filming of The Untamed.
However, the reason why it was interpreted by shippers as them being together as couple was because of Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo's reaction after they realized they were being recorded. And the later remark of Yibo saying "smash the jar", meaning since the secret has already been spilled, why not reveal it all out.

The author was not a child, as the fanfic was professionally done, and the producer was a female student, l know even her name, as in secret there were a few interviews with her, and she felt sorry having made so much trouble for the actors. She also admitted, she needed pocket money, so the idea was to use the two most famous actors at the time to get more views for a prostitution fanfic using the real persons XZ and WYO. As a student, l assume she has a higher education, and l cannot forgive the damage she caused for Xiao Zhan, as WYO was fine, his Hunan TV, and himself never reacted. The damage was done to Xiao Zhan, who was the predator in the fanfic, and WYO the under aged victim. You know Yibo was very young, when he filmed THE UNTAMED. It was for both of them the first series, and Xiao Zhan the much elder. Anyway, later it turned out there was much more behind the AO3 case, as many entertainment moguls, and critics wanted to suppress Xiao Zhan, tried hard to criticise him in any way as bad actor, bad singer, ....but at the end thanks to his own efforts, talent, calm resilience, and the Red Sea of real fans, nothing could harm him forever. He was internationally famous, went this year to Milano, Paris, met all the famous designers, attended the new season Designer shows, came home, produced new works, including stage works. The support from us, the audiences is unwavering, as he is a true artists in general, and was creative in many ways in secret during his ordeal. another thing that i felt wasn't addressed here was how much of it was people mindlessly hating xiao zhan and it wasn't the marginalized groups. people posted the most heinous comments on him and wishing the most vile things on him, harassing anyone who like him on every platform including international social media (i myself was harassed), blaming him for death of his grandparent, harassing anyone who tried to speak up for him. it was overall a nasty cyber bullying campaign against him and ngl reminds me a lot about the attack against tablo.
He wasn't the one in charge of firewall, + it was a few thousand of a very big fandom with millions of people who were actually involved in the reporting so to me it was a unfortunate incident and something i wish i never witness again. back in june or july 2020 when he finally hired a lawyer for lawsuits people fans and non fans gathered evidence for the cases when i tell you i had to give up after reading 2 sentences because of how vile people were to him. So yeah it wasn't marginalized groups yeah they were involved but it was antis, paid antis and very nasty spirited people who took advantage of the situation to be vile.

Yes, one of the loudest voices hating on him was actually homophobic people who thought he was "effeminate" and hated him for that and for becoming so popular from a BL show, you know, the people who marginalized marginalized groups? The actual marginalized people ended up being marginalized in this whole incident too

I'll never know them personally but they are some of the most genuine people, who happened to be celebrities, I've ever seen.
Zhan previously mentioned about not wanting to take some media attention away from the pandemic..but in the middle of his inactivity, he's been helping A LOT with covid relief efforts on the down-low, his management sending out donations, inspiring fans who learned about it to do the same and spread the word. My respect for him just grew even more, and I'm so glad he's doing so much better. As for Yibo, he'll always be the realest and I love him for it. I find it so sad how some people will literally try to destroy a person career just off of what their fans do, but these idols or celebrities can’t control everything that their fans do those are individual people with their own thoughts and actions and it shouldn’t reflect poorly on the celebrity if they didn’t have anything to do with how their fans were acting. Like for me personally i just wouldn’t be able to live with myself knowing I had taken part in diminishing someone else’s career that they worked so hard for and is their livelihood.
