In terms of piano transcriptions, Franz Liszt is the master of this craft, transcribing previous works such as Beethoven Symphonies and many of his contemporaries like this Widmung by Schumann.
In terms of the transcription style, Liszt stayed true to the original music and did not add in extra elements to the music.
