Owner/op is worth it. Just get the right truck from the start or you’ll hate your first year. If you have to wait a little longer to get the right one don’t hesitate. And by the right truck I mean something you don’t spend all your time and money just to keep going.

My company has had WEBASTO heaters on all our day cabs for about 3 years now. It is a game changer! Can pre set it to come on at a set time for a set period of time. Prevents cold starts as the block, oil, and coolant are warm. Also nice to fire up when sitting for a load to keep warm. Nice install Ezra!

  • @the.porter.productions

Good stuff! Got a good story for ya...My oldest brother came out of the military, got a new 1959 Chevy tractor and went on the road. He installed a propane tank behind the cab and heater in the cab. This truck had a gas engine and NO APU back then. He was out on the road during winter and the truck broke down, I believe somewhere in Pennsylvania. Well, not knowing how long he would be broke down, he turned on the propane heater and was able to stay warm, until the problem was fixed. What a SAVE! Good job on the install. Lots of extra wire for the shelf! 🧐 I wouldn’t have thought about the air intake direction versus the exhaust locations as much because I’ve never installed one of these. But after watching your video, I feel that I could do a good job, and I do usually think a step or two ahead when I do my work. I’ve noticed a few trucks with the Espar heaters and I’m not sure that they were professionally nor correctly installed. Some people don’t seem to care if the exhaust is bumping against the fuel tank. “Let’s just get it installed and done...it doesn’t have to look good!” I just DON’T care for that attitude myself! So, another good job and another step closer to having Old Red set up the way you want her. 😎 Hey, are you using her now for anything or is she just sitting around waiting? I’m sure that if something comes up, and she’s just there ready, you take her and get down the road. I know you have the Mack and probably keep it busy, right? That’s probably what motivated you to get another truck, other than the fact that Ol Red was just setting around, rotting down and you just had to save her! 😎 By the way, I’m glad that you did save this fine piece of Pete history! 🥰

great piece of kit ezra,i have been thinking about installing one in my trailer ,they sure were one of the best inventions for truckers,as a young trucker i like many others had to suffer the engine running all night and in very cold conditions we had to cover the grill with fertiliser sacks to let the engine get warm and i carried a 6foot tarp to throw over my blankets to get warm.

Espar and Webasto make great heaters. The knockoffs are ok for occasional use, but no comparison to the real deal. We run a LOT of Webasto coolant heaters which are nice for keeping everything warm for good cold starts, but they're more complicated install (need a coolant pump) and more expensive. The Espar air heaters are great middle ground and keep you warm and with that big cam you can winterfront the entire rad if you had to since it's aftercooled to keep the engine warm.

vids from the dash cam passenger side when you start hauling with it.
You'd get more views with hauling vids with the Mack and such. People
like me who're all buggered up physically watch those and get a lot of
comfort out of them for some reason [guess it makes us feel like we're
traveling or something]. Check out some of the FSC Speed Shop driving
vids he puts up. He never intended on doing much in terms of his
trucking but his views went up through the roof pretty much because of
the hauling vids that insomniacs and people also riddled with arthritis
get calm watching [they're cool vids]. :-))

Super great content. Questions: 1. Is there a risk of the exhaust leaking back in to the cab causing risk of toxic fumes or low oxygen while sleeping? 2. Would it be best to run the exhaust out to where you ran it, but then have a stainless elbow and standpipe going up back of can to roof of sleeper? With a turn back at the top to keep water out. This would make sure the exhaust exited out the top and could never be on the level of your body in the sleeper? - thanks for the video!!
