Sure RJ wrote it but Clapton was the one who modernized it and popularized it for that matter. Almost every cover of the song is of his version, sorta like how SRV is eternally linked to Texas Flood even though it was a Larry Davis tune
I agree, k1mmin9. Phish, in my opinion, has always been able to skate the line of rock/prog rock. Too much prog turns me off because the musicians seem determined to cram as many notes possible into each measure of music -- the musicality gets lost in those ridiculous displays of talent. Trey and Co. display terrific musicianship -- and extraordinary talent.
Am I imagining things or is there a quote floating around where Trey is joking about making a deal with the Devil and commenting that it's ok as long as you have a good attorney???
phil lesh is quoted that trey told him that he had a pact with the devil, in the late 90s. the lawyer piece is not in the quote but i do like the way it sounds.
trey somtimes falls back on a crutch riff or tries to play more notes than possable but he has got so much versatility and an enormous bag of tricks. u dont ever hear clapton playin that funky outer space sh--. his hands are too slow :P
"Trey has it...all of it. He lacks nothing in music. You know, he jokes about having a pact with the Devil...I can't help but believe it. He's the best." - P. Lesh
wow, what jam4jezus meant was that if you know speck about rock and roll then you should know the origin of this song. if you think it's phish then you're about 50+ years off
personally id rather listen to trey or jerry. or gilmour. they all excelent musicians each their own style and instantly recidnisable sound. gilmour has got SO much emotion. santana IS the A minor scale. jerry WAS the major scale, i mean u never even hear him play a note out of tune or out of place. i think jerry was better and he could sing really good too, but as a band, these guys are just rediculous. t
Please listen to the live Cream version on the Wheels of Fire album. I love the boys job here but it can't compare to that version. It gets staight up nasty.
Clapton: "Oi Oi Oi Oi! Fancy this solo I wrote lads?"
Trey: (grabs machine gun)
The best tone in the industry!!!!!! Even better now
Fellas, Phish Heads, it's not a competition! Both Trey & Clapton rip it up!! Ok, maybe Trey a little harder, but still...:)
Unreal guitar tone!!!!!
Smoking...I miss the nineties, especially 97 that was a great year...but I'm ready for Spring '09!
This cover is hot fire
i was there, people still arguing about nothing hahaha. thanks for posting, plz post more!

I'm with you man I'll be there for the first three shows if the lottery finally shows me some love
maybe my favorite show of any nye run i been to.
Amazing... 'nuff said.
This is outstanding, but nothing touches the Rawness of Clapton Voice and Es-335 when he performed this live in the late 60's!!!! Peace
No buts about this. Clapton schmapton.
amen to that
i like how trey completly destroys anything clapton had on this song, fuckin rippin it baby
You must’ve been born yesterday. This is great but Clapton is god brother

Adam savage lol very nice XD
Trey is Great. Clapton is Great. But ZAPPA was G.O.A.T.
Oh god, utter nonsense - Trey is in a different universe to Zappa he is light years better.
Trey kicks claptons ass.
@Guitar1997greenday lol nice
trey is good clapton is his rival

The best version of Crossroads of all times: /watch?v=AG9IsXlw5BY
yeah the whole group sounds awesome where are they from?
Same pentatonic stuff that every open mic guitarist plays. Kind of boring, even if it feels okay.
