I repaired quite a few of those pto units back in the day. I think the 15's all came from the factory with only the single speed 1000 rpm units. Some of them got retrofitted with salvage 2 speed units. i changed several over myself.
Im told youre correct, that 1586 was a single speed.. i think the 2 speed retrofit came from 1086. My first time with IH tractors, helping a neighbor who got tired of paying hacks.
