  • Hello all, and welcome to my Stat-maxing guide for Final Fantasy X!
    These videos aim to show the best tips and tricks to max your stats on Final Fantasy X and legitimately beat the Dark Aeons without just summoning Yojimbo and praying for Zanmato.
    There are lots of things that players don't generally consider when doing the endgame sections of the game, and you can save yourself hours and hours of time if you use the correct techniques and complete the process in a specific order. You should capture 10 of every Monster from every area before embarking on your stat-maxing journey, so check out my Capturing tips videos to help with that if you haven't done so already.
    This episode focuses on the Don Tonberry trick and beating Kottos.
    The Don Tonberry trick takes advantage of the massive damage that his counter attack 'Karma' does by converting the Overdrive gauge gain into AP to get 99 Sphere levels for all 3 characters in only 1 fight! Fortunately BDE has already done a brilliant summary of this trick in the guide below, so read this for more info! I will just add that you can optionally use Rikku's Mix Eccentrick (Twin Stars + Gambler's Spirit) to double your AP gain if you're really impatient, and Rikku has full Overdrive gauge before you change her to Comrade or Stoic.
    gamefaqs.games...
    Kottos drops 20 Healing Springs as his normal drop, so 40 with an Overkill. You can take advantage of this by using an Extract skill or a Distiller item to change those 40 items into Power, Speed or Mana Spheres. Kottos is reasonably strong at lower levels but you can still take him out as long as 2 or more characters have Auto-Phoenix.
    I hope you found the video useful and informative. If so then please Like, Comment and Subscribe!
    SUMMARY
    For this set of videos, this series focuses on Stat-maxing using the Standard Sphere Grid and 9999HP. The best way to do this is to activate every existing node on the grid and then add the required number of extra stat nodes for each stat to get 255 Strength, Defence and Magic Defence and Accuracy with 114 Luck, 176 Evasion, 170+ Agility. 255 Magic is optional and not required.
    Totals required for Standard Grid, no Clear Spheres, 114 Luck
    20 Strength Spheres (can include 1 from blitz, 1 Yojimbo's Fayth, 3 Dodging lightning bolts)
    25 Defence
    27 Magic (do last, max Yuna, Anima Flares)
    32 Magic Defence (had 64)
    0 Agility for 170 (19 for 250)
    46 Accuracy
    13 Evasion (32 for 255)
    24 Luck (113 or 114 Luck) and approx 168 Fortune Spheres for 7 characters

    I had only the „overdrive to ap“ build no double / triple ap and I can confirm it works as well like that if you don’t have the other things. Just takes a bit longer. Still managed to get 100 levels in around 15 mins. Good luck everyone

    i've always liked keeping rikku's hp and defense as low as possible.
    this is so that kottos becomes the main AP gain enemy. her lowest hp
    allows his counters to pretty much get everyone enough AP for 99 sphere
    levels, even with just a few counters without triple AP/overdrive gain.
    it also eliminates the need to farm kills for the king. it also allows
    you to farm 40 spheres (or was it 60?) at the same time.
    it's a great multipurpose fight, and you can always use clear spheres to drop her hp/defense down if you boosted her.

    • @DPhoenix237
      @DPhoenix237  4 года назад

      That's a fine alternative, but by the time you've done capturing then at least one of your characters should have high enough kills to easily get 99 levels from Don Ton.
      You'd never need to clear spheres unless you were doing 99K HP otherwise that's just a little inefficient; in the Max HP stat maxing guide I keep Rikku's HP at min for as long as possible.

    • @Taterzz
      @Taterzz 4 года назад +1

      @@DPhoenix237 63 of each sphere may be inefficient, but i was one of those that enjoyed having a sectioned off grid as opposed to adding in the minimum to get everyone to 255 from the empty spaces.
      also by using kottos you can skip the time on don's animation and instead skip straight to gaining the spheres you need to use the grid. it only takes a couple counters from him with rikku's low hp to easily max out even without triple ap/overdrive. none of my playthroughs has gotten me to 99,999 from grudge, since i've always had the kills more or less spread out. that's on top of multiple people capturing.

    There's an easier way to do this. Instead of Tomberry, use the Cactuar King as this fiend just use single target attacks. Same autofenix in 2 characters, then cast haste on cactuar king. Every ally using comrade overdrive mode. And you don't even need to attack him. Just press skip all the time and restart the battle if he runs away. You don't need to repeat the cycle too often as vs Tomberry, as you don't kill it. You can watch videos or the tv meanwhile and it's less boring. Just check from time to time Cactuar didn't leave the combat. This save you some money too.

    • @DPhoenix237
      @DPhoenix237  3 года назад +4

      It's only marginally easier though man, and it's not better.
      Using Don Tonberry, you guarantee that 2 characters get the Comrade and 1 character gets the Stoic every time if Karma does 99k damage.
      Cactuar attacks randomly with 99999 needles, and his 10000 needles counter is less effective because the AP from Overdrive to AP reduces by 10% each time.
      It's a decent alternative though, if you don't like the DT method for some reason.

      Yeah, I wanted the walkthrough to be as comprehensive as possible whilst not focusing on grinding. A lot of what I do well in FFX is about doing things in the right order and getting ahead of the curve to go from strength to strength.
      I've go it down to about 47-49 hours for beating Nemesis/Penance in one playthrough iirc.

    Excellent video! But I've found a bit of a problem. You have to capture every enemy for the 99x Winning Formula, but the Puroboros doesn't spawn in the Omega Ruins until after Omega is defeated, and he's a 999k hp superboss! How am I supposed to defeat him before stat maxing.

    • @DPhoenix237

      They do spawn, they're just relatively rare. Check out the capturing episodes of my Expert Grid playthrough where I do the full capturing; there are certain areas in the ruins where certain enemies show up, like Machea and Puroboros. You'll encounter them eventually 👍

    you don't need triple overdrive. Just have overdrive --> ap and triple AP.
    set all your main characters set to comrade.
    get don-tomberry to hit character with most damage, and defend with others.
    This way you will get about 50 s-levels in less than 10 minutes. All the grinding needed to add triple overdrive is not worth it.

    • @DPhoenix237

      You get 99 Winning Formula for free; there's no reason not to use Triple OD on at least 3 characters.
      You also get the money from selling weapons when Luck farming, and that gets you enough to bribe for another character.
      You also get 99 Underdog Secret if you get the 26 Primers. There's no reason to not use Triple OD or Double OD on every character. It costs literally nothing if done properly.

      It's really not so bad if you use these optimal techniques imho.
      Capturing can be a grind if you don't know where to find specific enemies and how to set it up properly, and so can Sphere Grinding if you don't do it efficiently.
