I hate musicals a lot the only reason why I saw this was because my mom and sister dragged me along, but I’m not gonna lie the movie was really good. I laughed and i even was moved to tears when the dance sequence happened. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an ending as epic as the finale number . So long story short hate musicals but even I found this very enjoyable
I’m honestly really happy that this was a musical you ended up loving despite not loving musicals. Obviously I’m also no huge on musicals but there’s a handful out there that really move me and resonate with me. This unfortunately wasn’t one of them, but I’m glad you found one that clicked
I went in expecting it to be dogshit too but it was funny and fun and the visual were incredible and I enjoyed the musical numbers. The only thing I thought was pretty basic was the storyline. But I wasn’t expecting an a24 storyline from it lol
Haha fair enough. Glad you enjoyed it! Yea I wasn’t expecting an arthouse storyline either. It really comes down to me not enjoying the visuals and musical numbers as much as you did
This is a well made review people, don’t go after the messenger please😂these are his opinions and they should be respected like anybody else’s. Anyway Great review man i think this review is solid and more than fair 🤝✨ I feel pretty much the same as you about it.
I've HATED Cynthia Erivo for like 5 years ever since her Ghetto Black comments about Black Americans. But the reviews started getting me hyped because I really think the 1st act of Wicked is easily the strongest. And I'll be damned if they didn't pull it off. Great adaptation of the musical. I don't think the 2nd movie will be nearly as good but it's only because the story is weak. At least I know this creative team can bring that to the screen, hopefully they find ways to improve it.
Sure, she misunderstood the intent of the poster and stuck her foot in her mouth. I didn't like it either, but that's normal for someone her age. It should be easy to forgive the ignorance of youth. I know I said much worse when I was that age, but only my equally ignorant friends heard it. We didn't have social media back then.
that is what i was thinking i never saw the broadway play im not a big theater kid and everything being shoved down my face or all f our faces just gave me the impression they are just over compenstating for this to just be overrrated witch i havent seen many besides you say
I haven't seen it, but plan to over the weekend. I've only heard good things about Wicked over the past 20 years.(even from you) I too love the wizard of Oz. Stephen Swartz who wrote all the music and Lyrics has been making musicals since before you and I were born. He did Godspell, Pippin, etc. He also wrote the songs for Disney's Pocahontas (which I love) and Hunchback of Notre Dame. I have high expectations and will hold the movie up to those expectations, so I'll probably be disappointed.
Let’s just get past this and focus on the other far better films that came out this year, and the ones that are still coming. Musical theater kiddos will ejaculate/squirt anyways when Oscars, unsurprisingly, reward this.
I think you at least have to admit the costume and set design is phenomenal, even if there are maybe issues with lighting and overall direction. I think anyone who is at all a fan of musicals will have a good time. The song “The Wizard and I” which you described as going on for too long is quite important, it’s the “I want” song, the kind of thing that you’d get in a Disney-princess-animated-musical like Mulan or Moana. Looking forward to Part 2!
Oh for sure! I think the costume design is fantastic! But I would kind of expect that from a big budget Hollywood movie. With all the money and resources they had, I’d hope the costume design is on point lol and yes you’re right. It was definitely giving “I want” song vibes. I dont think I’ve ever been a fan of those types of songs no matter which movie it’s in tbh. I understand it’s supposed to be a character moment but I’ve never found them all that insightful lol
Well, it's breaking box office records, the critics love it, and the overwhelming number of people out of the theatre love it wildly. I think it's one of the most amazing films I've ever seen in my life (and I'm an old man....I've seen a few films in my day). But everyone is absolutely entitled to their opinion. Thankyou for taking the time to give a detailed review.

Have avoided this movie like the plague. Mainly because the two leads seem like egomaniacs. Glad I did, your review has convinced me I’ve done the right thing.
You are not alone, but you and the others just don't have the level of taste needed. I see a few "I feel special by MAKING myself dislike anything that's popular" contrarians in these comments agreeing with you, and I just feel sad for them for robbing themselves of experiencing such an amazing piece of art because they have some chip on their shoulder or claim they "Despise" these two leads without having met them. People talk about people who act like superfans ONLY because everyone else is into something, but we need to talk more about how people hating something ONLY because it's popular is just as bad, a distinction without a difference, and it's the exact same levels of "Strangers opinions define me". These two amazing talents gave top-tier performances. The cinematography and lighting and story-telling were all phenomenal. The acting and set design and scoring was all delicious. These are objective facts, despite how I know that I will get people saying I'm only saying that because everyone else is.
@@davidcox8582 while I do agree that there are a handful of people out there that are blindly hating the movie for superficial surface level reasons, there are completely valid reasons to not like this movie.
