  • These are a few licks I lifted from Kreisberg. Then I'm using those licks over Invitation.

The way you approach the licks is more valuable than licks - Thanks a lot

That first ascending chromatic idea I stole from Jonathan's amazing version My Favorite Things, hear it a lot in his playing. Jonathan is such an amazing player and a great dude, seen him play and met him a few times here in Finland. Great licks, thanks for another fine lesson!

Great Video as always Mikko. That ascending Minor 9 Arpeggio is one that Wes Montgomery used quite often. Also the Major 7 Flat 5 and Dominant 9 Flat 5 Chords/Arpeggios ascending or decending in Whole Steps is very Debussy/Ravel. As far as transcribing licks and solos, it's one of the oldest methods of learning Jazz. But, it's important to learn the Concepts behind the licks and solos, and vary the licks as much as possible. That way you'll get more practical application from the licks and you won't be copying verbatim. I think Trumpeter/Educator Clark Terry said it best. First you must Imitate, then you can Emulate, then you can Innovate. Also, check out the RUclips Transcript, how it translated your spoken words at 20:40. Thanks.

Nice job! Even though you’re hammering on a lot of those notes, they sound smooth and connected. And once again going back to your Linear Expressions lesson ,you’re using one shape and one line to play over different chords ...since you mentioned Adam Rogers I thought you might be interested to know that he studied with Tony Baruso the co-author of LE ..praised him as a “great player and dedicated teacher”.

Very nice. I tried the second lick on a 251 in C and it works great if you make the À triad at the end an A minor and finish on the 3rd or the 5th of the C
