Today we have a channel first, a Fortis watch is here on loan. I'm checking out a Fortis B42 Chronograph, a great looking (albeit a little thick) chronograph running the Valjoux 7750 movement from ETA. I hope you enjoy the review.

Fortis are the finest of brands, possibly the most underrated swiss brand out there, a true watch connoisseurs timepiece.
I have 3 Fortis (flieger, cosmonautis chrono, navigator) that I rotate for daily wear to save wear and tear on my more expensive watches. I love them! Accurate, comfortable and easy to read. I plan to gift them to my sons so that I can buy some new ones.
Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it.
Nice watch. No-frills and very functional, which seems to be the theme of Fortis
If it weren't such a thick watch, and still in production, I'd have to strongly consider getting one. None of their current models really stand out to me, but this one is pretty nice.
Huge fan of Fortis. I love my 3-hand Fortis B-42. Super easy to read the time. My next watch will be the new Fortis Cosmonaut Chronograph (with the new case - now 51mm lug to lug)
Thanks for watching enjoy the new Fortis.
Wrist shot next time please! Great review; I'm currently saving up for the official cosmonaut version with the timing bezel and chronograph. I'm lucky that I have large wrists and can pull it off, but I understand people having issues with the size for every day wear. Thanks for the reviews!
Enjoy the Fortis when you gets home. They're a beefy watch but the quality is excellent.
Very interesting and great review ... The strap is beautiful ... The watch is awesome ...
I really like it, other than that thickness. It's bulky, to a fault. None of their current models appeal to me as much as this one I had on loan unfortunately.
Oh my god...has the watch industry forgotten how to make thin/smaller watches...decades ago there have been chronographs in smaller diamater and much thinner packed with functions.
Yeah I don't understand why I'm constantly having to say, "it's a nice watch but it's to big." I think the watch industry is high sometimes.
I just think you guys have small arms.
I wear anything from 40 to 45mm, from 8 to 16mm thick. If a certain size is not for you then it's not the watch's fault, it's simply...not for you. The market is packed with smaller watches.
Nice watch. Excellent review.
Thanks for watching. My first time checking out a Fortis. This one in particular was a bit thick, but the quality was impressive. I don't see a whole lot in their current lineup that I'm in love with but I'll keep an eye on them and see what's new in the future.
Fortis makes wonderfully styled watches, however I could never get over the VERY LARGE lugs that are also very long, and for my puny wrist they are too large, also the Chronograph models are SOOO THICK!!
As usual I have to say that putting an easily scratched coating on a sapphire kind of beats the purpose of a sapphire and to me is one of the dumber decisions in watchmaking! Underside coating is OK, but on the top is just dumb, IMO.
Great video as usual 👍
The double coated AR crystal looks amazing, until it gets scuffed up. I guess if a person is capable of getting 5+ years out of it without to much damage, having it replaced while serviced isn't such a big deal. This watch, and the Breitling I reviewed a while back, have the most crystal clear glass I've ever seen. It is really impressive when it's not blemished.
Fortis' front coating on the sapphire crystal is NOT easily scratched. AFAIK it is hardened and at almost the same hardness as the sapphire itself. Going by experience of other long-time users, everyone seems really happy how the crystal holds up. Together with the fact, the AR coating is unrivaled in regards to clearness, Fortis' decision seems not so dumb after all.
You posted the same comment in watchuseek lmao. Small world
Hi, I have a Fortis looking identical, except for the strap. My watches' dial layout and hands are the same as the one in your video. Looking at the receipt, the watch was sold in April 2006 and has a number "635.22.11L" and was described as a "42mm Bk Lth Bk Dia B42 Pilot P"
I got this watch on loan from a viewer and they didn't know the original purchase date or reference number, and being out of production I had a lot of trouble trying to find that information. Thanks for the comment appreciate it.
Glad you made the review. Just and FYI, I also noticed that the "635..." number visible on the back of the case of the watch you reviewed is identical to the number on the back of my watch.
B-42 has been replaced with the Aviatis Aeromaster Chrono... Virtually the same case, same movement, same layout, sword hands, updated dial design with a carved chapter ring and amazing applied indices. Much nicer dial now, imo.
Fortis has rationalized their unfocused catalog in an attempt to simplify it. So, platform names and ref numbers have also changed.
Thanks for the info Carlos, I didn't realize this model was effectively replaced with the Aviatis Aeromaster. I appreciate you sharing that with me.
👍 no worries... Liking the channel!
I wonder why Fortis would think we would not love these more if the words on the watch were in actual Russian? In my thinking, that would make the watch stand head and shoulders above most others and would be a terrific conversation piece.
It is a swiss watch and this particular model isn't associated with the Russian Space Program that I'm aware of, but for their cosmonaut watch that would be cool for sure.
I've yet to purchase my first retro aviation style chronograph. Now that I've looked at this beautiful time piece a few times, I'm wanting to try something that has a bit of that look. I'm surfing around and seeing what appears to be a nice fifty dollar alternative: Timex T499059 Expedition Field Chronograph Watch. Any other suggestions?
Seiko has several flight chronographs, the SNA411 Flightmaster I've reviewed in the past being the most popular. People speculate that it's discontinued but I saw some come back in stock at LIW not long ago. I reviewed a Timex Expedition Field Watch, it was decent for the price, so your Timex Chrono option might be a good idea. Timex is a bit notorious for being low quality, and things like crowns breaking being the most common complaint I see. Mine has been fine so far, but I haven't put it through any hard use. Casio Edifice has some Flight Chrono's as well, and while I haven't tried any I'm a big fan of Casio in general.
If it's in your budget this Laco looks really cool: amzn.to/2vQhoyg
My issue is that I have to wrap my head around the sheer complexity of modern aviation watches, as opposed to the simpler retro ones. I like simplicity. But I think to be true to the aviation genre, it should be more complex, so it's a step I want to take. I have a thesis, that we have an unconscious association with diver watches being simple, concerned with bigger chunks of time, more eastern in their projections of time and truth. Aviator watches, on the other hand: more complex, concerned with seconds and micro seconds, more western. I suspect the watches we wear influence us more than we know. I'm pretty sure someone has thought of this before and I am speaking as a newbe watch lover. In any event, thanks for the suggestions. I shall explore them.
How does this Fortis compare to IWC with regards to workmanship & quality?
I’ve only reviewed one IWC, the Mark 18. I can’t say I’ve spent enough time with either brand to say how they compare in a generalized sense. Both impressed me so far, for what that’s worth.
Asking b4 I watched the whole vid. Can you continuously run the chronograph?
It will probably put more wear on the movement, meaning it may need routine service more often, and it will probably cause the power reserve to run out sooner.
Cool watch but it is thick.
Yeah that's its main drawback for sure. Thanks for watching.
