We've just started using an NT1 for our cartoon voice acting... excellent mic! Still getting used to it's preferred sound levels (for different characters), but I'm constantly impressed!
Sold I'm getting this tomorrow 😊
Yes I'm picking mines up today!!!
Got mine yesterday. Happy with the results too, recording acoustic piano.
The most useful review ever! Thank you!
This video just gave me the final hint I needed to finally go for it! Thank you!
Revisiting this video 3 years later. Saw this video when you released it too. You sound good on the NT1.
Your review was so helpful!! n.n This will be my first conderser microphone and as a singer Im super excited to record with it! Thanks for the video c:
Thanks, that's a good review! If you keep the same distance, room, and setting for all the mic you test in the different videos, it's very easy to compare them. This is a BIG plus. AAA++++
Love it. Have been using it often for a month . So far so good.
i used the NT3 live and recording.... it was awesome, I couldn't bottom out the bass and it was cleen... got the NT1 coming..... its in the mail....😍
Your reviews are fresh.
Hard to find a better mic bang for buck wise. I also am in love with mine ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Just bought this mic because I loved this video! It should be here after Christmas and I’m hoping to record some vocals ASAP! So excited!
Love the way you get serious giving the specs😂
DUDE THIS SOUNDS SICK 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Cheers for the review dude, will be looking at getting one for my first time audio book thingy, I hope its gentle with me, maybe not too gentle...
Dodgy Goose check as well at4040 it is brilliant and very balanced specially for audio books it is comfortable to listen to for longer period of time.
LOL Awesome review man!! That one part was just too funny.. hehe.. spitter
An awesome video & review 😁 I have the RØDE NT1-A.
this review is really good tho nice job man im def getting this mic
Great review. Thanks :)
I have heard a lot about that rode, long before I ever thought of getting into voice over ....it's a super mic and man, that noise floor at 4Db, is really amazing....but like you said, it is pricey for most.
Once again, great review , in your inimitable way bro.
Antoine Inniss thanks man! You’re awesome. RØDE does make some nice mics, especially this one! Definitely pricey, worth saving up for in the long run though!
Dude that song was sick \m/\m/
You have the best personality on RUclips! :-)
Fantastic video. The quality of your videos far exceeds the views and subscribers. Keep it up and you'll be able to support yourself with these videos. Super high quality man. Very impressed. Oh, one comment, I'd love some into or outro music. Great opportunity to express yourself even more.
Great review! Im getting into voice overs and voice acting and was wondering if this was a good mic for it! I think you answered that lol Is it a good pair with the scarlett 2i2?
i’m saving up for this!! thank you!
I have this mic. It's so fucking good it's unbelievable. There's virtually no noise at all with this microphone.
Im getting mine this week
@Audio Hotline Your review is really amazing! Regarding Scarlett solo, could this interface handle 1 mic for voice and 1 the instrument like guitar or digital piano?
Sold I gotta get this setup it’s worth it
I really like this mic, if I could choose any mic at that price it would be this hands down. I make music (hip hop) and I’m using the rode NT-USB right now and it doesn’t sound bad at all, I got the mic shield to go with it and it just works but there’s still something missing. Anyway awesome review man
Would you recommend buying a kaotic eyeball with this microphone?
@@sorethumbs379 Ofcourse but I’d recommend buying one with any mic
@@ProvenSawlid appreciate it 🙏🏾
Dear, Your video is on top on this keyword ( Rode nt1 review).
Hello, very good, thanks for your videos, I have a great doubt to buy a mic and I see that you have experience in these ... nt1 (black) vs nt2a ... I do not care about the polar patterns, I will only use cardioid, but strictly adjusting to the sound quality which you see best
1
I've had two fail as well. Hearing you say yours failed confirms to me that Rode has an issue with their NT1s.
RØDE has a great warranty, so if you have any issues they will take care of it... as long as you bought it from an authorized dealer.
Made me laugh, also like this microphone
Can you use the the rode videoMic go with the rode nt1? Thanks Barry Spain 🇪🇸
What microphone arm do you use? What works for the shockmount?
Awesome review! BTW, can you review the Yamaha MG10XU with the rode NT1 with the proper settings on compression? I'm planning to buy one for my gaming channel. And is there any way that you can output the Rode NT1 audio both to the computer and to the DSLR camera?
San Ghuloom I have been asked to review this Yamaha interface/mixer before, so I’ll definitely get a review made for it!
Yes you can have it go out to your camera while you’re recording to your computer. The MG10XU has two rca outputs (the red and white plugs). You will just need an rca to 3.5mm cable. Then you will just plug the rca side into the mixer, and the 3.5mm side into your mic jack on your DSLR.
@@AudioHotline wow! this is so cool!! thank you very much sir! waiting for your review on this! thanks for the info. Ill immediately try the rca connection when i purchased this. awesome!
Dude, what are the headphones you're using in this video?
Thanks for the review!
Looks like the Sony MDR-7506 to me.
I have a pair...if you are just checking overall sound levels they are fine. They are pretty useless for anything beyond that. These are more of a "reference" headphone. They are very flat yet sorely lack in bass detail. These are the headphones you typically see a Director/Boom Operator wearing on-set just to make sure they hear the dialog.

Well said - great accent
Which one is better for voiceover. podcasts. zoom lectures. recording voice (not singing) and recording digital courses? NT1 OR NT1A? It's hard for me to decide...Thank you for a wonderful comparison.🙂👌👍
Beautiful thumbnail.
Do u prefer that mic or the avantone pro 12 cv?
G.A.S. they say when you just want some fu**in' quality!
Great video, but I'm so confused. Every image that I see of this mic has a round pop filter. Even the link that you have included beneath your video goes to an amazon page with the round pop filter. But in your video, the pop filter is rectangle. Which is the most current version of this product?
The greatest difference between the new and old version is not only the pop filter's shape but the material as well as the shockmount. The current kit model comes with a basic shockmount and a round fabric pop filter. The old version came with a rectangular metal pop filter and an amazing rycote shockmount that's way better than the new ones and yes unfortunately the price for the kit hasn't change. The quality of the other parts in the kit were superior and they have mantained the price, yet decreased the quality of the overall kit. The microphone is the same though.
Although you can still find the kit with the old features (the better ones) if you get the kit that also includes the Rode interface in it. It's more expensive, but buying everything separately costs a lot more, so I guess it's worth it.
The only way I know this is because I've done some research about mics because I need new condenser microphone, I got the NT1-A and it came defective so I returned it and I've heard everywhere that the NT1 is superior, but the old kit is kinda hard to find and since Rode didn't respond to my mail of a defective mic and I just ended up returning it to the store, I'm seriously thinking of getting the Seinnheiser mk4 now as I've heard good things about it, being really great for voices which is what I want it for.
Do you have a specific phantom power source that is the best to use with this mic?
i had a problem using phantom power 48v, I had plugged into my Roland rubix mic and guitar adapter, once i pushed my 48v boost phantom power booster, it seemed like my adapter was flashing, causing my imac to respond abnormally, which is connected via usb power.. should i buy a separate phantom power for this unit?
You should use Rode's own mini usb interface that normally comes with this mic as a kit.
can I plug this into a H5N?
Hi nice video! What kind of camera do you use?
Thank you! In this video I was using the Sony A7iii with the Sony 50mm F1.8 full frame lens. By request, I will actually be posting a video in the next couple days of all the camera gear that I use for this channel!
Why does the amazon link say it’s unavailable rn??
I have a boo my voice in the 200hz region and scooped high mids but quite a lot of sibilance, would this be good for me?
Would you recommend buying a kaotic eyeball with this microphone?
Sir, a humble question. Should I buy Zoom H5n Pro for recording or should I get AI-1 as a USB interface for this mic? Will H5n Pro give better sound than AI-1? Or AI-1 will give better sound than Hn5?
I mean I am keen to buy Zoom h5n as I am afraid ai-1 may give me a headache in terms of setting up with Windows 10 etc? Does it work with ease using Windows 10 PC?
Please reply to me as I am going to purchase this after making the saving in the last 12 months.
Asif Javed will you be using the microphone in outdoor situation?
Great video and your mic sounds awesome. I also have the NT1 but I'm really struggling to get it to sound 'right'. I'm using it alongside a Rodecaster Pro so they should work beautifully together. I've watched all the official Rode videos and several others too. I have it sounding 'muddy' as if I'm talking through my shirt, on other occasions it sounds as though I'm several feet away and there are also occasions when it's 'tinny'. Despite trying all the the various tweaks on the Rodecaster Pro I just can't it right. There's never any 'punch'. My previous set up was simply an Audio-Technica USB mic plugged directly into the PC which always sounded great. Do you have any recommendations?
Interesting. Have you been able to try a different mic into your Rodecaster pro? If so, did it sound normal? If you want, send me an audio sample over to audiohotline@gmail.com and I'll take a listen and we can talk more about it there once I hear the example.
I did have an issue with an NT1 a while back that sounds pretty similar to the issue you're having. I had bought that mic used and it no longer had the warranty, so I had to buy another one. But if you bought it from an authorized dealer you could definitely contact RØDE and have them do an exchange for a new one.
The nt1’s now seem to come with a circular pop filter. And the one with the smr comes with an interface
Yeah they switched it up, it comes with the same accessories as the NT1a now.
Would you recommend the RØDE NT1 + Ai1 kit?
No, the ai1 sucks.
I need rode NT1
Any link for to buy from?
Would u say its better than a Vanguard v4?
Did you use an In-line preamp (SE Dynamite) on a condenser mic>? was it applicable... I just saw the gears you've used the SE Dynamite and I was wondering wether it was straight on the mic or in a different line.
You actually aren't able to use a mic activator like the SE Dynamite with a condenser mic. Those devices require +48v of phantom power, and so does a condenser mic, so they can't be in the same signal chain. Mic activators are meant to be used with inactive dynamic mics and inactive ribbon mics.
@@AudioHotline Ohh I see. Thanks for the answering and for the information... hoping for more uploads to come.
idk why but the mic sounds really blurry kinda like how something would sound if you'll from the room next to you. Is it a problem with the mic or is it something I need to fix in some settings? If its something in the setting then how do I do it? pls help been trying to fix this for a while.
Borch if you want to send me a short video of your setup and how you use it to audiohotline@gmail.com it may be a little bit easier for me to pin down the issue! An audio clip of your issue would also be great! Thanks
U prolly talked into the wrong side of the mic lol
Is the next giveaway at 1K subs?
btw you are great man!🔥
Udit Joshi Official yes! Getting really close! Thanks you!
compared to LCT400 Pure?
I want to buy it, but i cant afford it, i m basically dead!
Why you sound different when you are in the picture vs voiceover? its way better on voice over parts.. It is because proximity effect?
Yes. Proximity effect is the answer to that. When I am not in the shot I get closer to the mic, when I am in the shot I stay the recommended 5-6 inches away so that the mic isn’t blocking my face. Don’t be fooled though, bassier doesn’t always mean better. Boosting frequencies in post is easy, but if you are really close and it starts to sound muddy, that is much harder to deal with after the fact.
You don’t get the Rycote Lyre Shockmount anymore and neither do you get that pop filter. Both have been replaced with the stuff added to the NT1A.
RØDE NT1 Come With XLR Cable?
(i am confused because I search About NT1 but google show me NT1-A 😔)
The NT1 does not come with an XLR cable unless you purchase the version that is packaged with the AI-1 audio interface.
@@AudioHotline thanks (you are so fast wow) and i wanna use this mic for streaming (i have separate audio interface - TC Helicon GoXLR Mixer, Sampler, Voice FX for Streamers
@@jdabmusic If you need an XLR cable, Monoprice has amazing quality for a good price! Here is a link: amzn.to/2WahY5S
@@AudioHotline thanks 😍
Where can i find that band you recorded in this video? I googled Kindoms - Turning Point and checked on Amazon music and couldn't find it?
You can find it here!
ruclips.net/video/UkLBU2oaXc4/видео.htmlsi=EuqYNqatpRDPX9uz
Is this mic connected to the camera sound or added post p?
Jeremy Suggett it is being recorded to an interface and then the audio is sync’d in post! Although, the zoom H6 and H5 can send a line out to the camer and give you a pretty similar result as long as your camera pres are turned down as low as possible.
I want an NT1A but I can sometimes get outside noise so I thought the m2 could be the go
M2 ? Wtf is that lol
@@MrSodaBelly It's a Rode mic?
Patrick Jenner for recording?! Bruh ur fucking stupid just stfu
Rodent 1
Do you prefer this or the Sennheiser MK 4?
I personally prefer the NT1.
NTI is best budget condenser microphone.
Hello, what are ur settings? Did u edit ur microphone sound, or is this straight out of the box?
This is all straight out of the box, except for the section that is the “post processing” test!
@@AudioHotline what do u think is best? Without post processing or with, thinking about buying this mic for my vocals but i just wanna know everything haha!
Ty for responding, and great camera setup btw!
Can the rode nt1 pop filter be removed.
JORDY KAY yes! Absolutely!
Lewitt lct 440 or rode nt1 😕?
The question of our time. Found any answer?
Personally, I lean toward the NT1... not because the LEWITT isn’t just as good, but very simply I just like the results I get with the NT1 more than the 440. I can definitely do a comparison video though!
@@AudioHotline Cool thanks. Wouldn't be a bad idea. I spent +30 hours last week reading microphone reviews and forum posts and all boiled down to either NT1, Aston mics, Lewitt HC 440, Warm audio 47jr and Roswell mini k47 in the common budget price bracket (higher would be ksm32, tsm102 etc.). I think people would be interested in some comparisons between those because it seems like at 2019 these are the best budget competiteers
This is still a pertinent question going in 2021! Please do a comparison video. Please.
I got really nervous when you got real close to the mic after proclaiming your love or the NT1 and double downed by saying you're a spitter.!!!
Gut Punch News hahaha me too man!! I make myself nervous sometimes when I do that test.
Your reviews get better and better, plus your attitude makes it more fun to watch. Plus, the song you played was dynamite!
Thank you!!! I appreciate the kind words! I am glad you liked the song, it is actually my band’s song!
Audio Hotline let me know if y’all release it. I’ll buy it.
Do i need to buy audio interface with rode Nt1?
vannos spot yes, you will need to have an audio interface that has an XLR input that can supply 48v of phantom power to the NT1. There is a bundle with the RØDE NT1 that comes with the RØDE AL-1 audio interface, that goes for $350. A lot of people love the Scarlett solo (around $100) a good budget option is the Behringer UMC22 ($60).
@@AudioHotline Oh thanks alot, i'll probably buy blue yeti then :)
@@AudioHotline Your review is really amazing! Regarding Scarlett solo, could this interface handle 1 mic for voice and 1 the instrument like guitar or digital piano?

⚠️ help my microphone make this noise
@
I tried to buy one today. The man at guitar center just kind of looked at me sad and said since the pandemic He's only seen two. They are made in Australia and Australians are not free.
That sucks… that makes me sad 😔
I got mine for 79$
Where?
Not to shit in anyone’s Cheerios... but RØDE has been dealing with more counterfeit mics, so they have cracked down on who their authorized dealers are. I would personally not recommend buying from anyone who isn’t an authorized dealer on RØDE’s website, because then you won’t get that great warranty, and even worse... you may not be getting an authentic RØDE mic. Much like the classic saying “if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.”
