- I'm preparing to install an Irrigreen smart sprinkler system into my lawn and wanted to document the layout plans and preliminary work taken to get this robot sprinkler head going.

Irrigreen calls this printing water on the lawn because you can change the distance the sprinkler throws water at any point in a 360-degree circumference around each head.
Because of this, the trench work I'm planning is minimal compared to traditional systems, however, I'm complicating my trenching by installing a new sidewalk over part of the PVC run.

You're the first that I've seen to test the distance above ground. Yeah my psi is 57.5 psi, but what if I install it and find out it can't reach, I'd be so mad. Love the above ground idea.
Good planning on those installed pipes. Anytime a homeowner concretes in stuff they need to think about 20 years from now and they need to do something.
I know the hose I had in CO if I'd ever gotten to where I could do a side walk. There was going to have to be like 4 pipes laid.
1. To drain water from the roof
2. One to lay sprinkler lines to back yard
3. One to lay sprinkler lines to the front yard
4. One to bring what ever new "LINES" to where power, telephone, and cable entered the garage.
Planning planning planning
Do you have a video showing the head going mixed distances, I'd love to see that
I went to their site and did a layout for my lawn 4 heads front yard only (back yards a pool ) 4300 dollars an change 4 heads I can install 25 heads for that much money including the control unit
It's definitely a premium or luxury system, not for everyone...however, I believe (no data to support this) that a system like this is like solar panels that increase home value. For home flippers or people that plan on selling in a few years that 4 grand extra under a landscape reno would probably yield a positive ROI. For existing owners of existing in-ground sprinklers its a product that only a minority of lawn owners will choose to upgrade.
With a bigger driplet size wont it just wash out new seed ?
Fascinating watering system. I know it's expensive though, which I'm sure will pay for itself in a few years when you account for water savings vs traditional sprinklers overwater usage.( being a big fan of their mp and r-van rotator nozzles) I wonder if Hunter and Rainbird are working on similar technology and will have their own versions at some stage.
Does CA offer any tax break for using the Irrigreen system?
Not that I know of although it would be nice if incentives arose in the coming years. I won't dial in my calibration until my heads are in the ground but once they are set this should make watering far more efficient so long as it isn't in use during high winds. Light wind should effect it too much because the larger droplet sizes that are shot far are less effected by wind and the smaller droplets are less effected because they aren't designed to travel as far. This system "should" allow any lawn owner to use less water on their lawns...if incentives were out there for transition to buffalograss in addition to irrigation of this sort a lot of lawns could be maintained with significantly less water waste. I would be surprised if the well known brands like hunter, rainbird, and orbit don't try to get into this market in the coming years. In regards to the system paying for itself I also see things like this adding to home value like solar panels do. On average a home install of solar panels increases home value by about 4%; I see this as a major selling point in the mid-to-upper tiers of homes listed.
I have a 125 PSI @ 4-5 gal per min, how do you have that much volume of water with low pressure?
How do you think these sprinklers would do on a new seeding? Seems like the nozzles directed close to the sprinkler head come out powerful and would blow the seed away?
I would never use this sprinkler on bare dirt seeding, even with it in the ground I'd use a different watering method to get first growth and maybe even for the first month while new sprouts are still rooting down and hardening off. Once you have grass though this is looks like it'll be awesome.
Are there alternatives sprinklers that are similar?
Oto lawn comes to mind first but admittedly I need to do significant research into alternative companies offering other kinds or smart sprinklers.
@@TurfMechanic gotcha thanks. Do you know of any similar ones for above ground? I know of the gilmour pattern master, it does a decent job
I wish they made a more affordable version that could be attached to a hose and used above ground. The best sprinkler I could find for now is the gilmour adjustable sprinkler.
Man, that would be awesome, an above ground hose end version that still connected to your wifi for all the water pattern tech. That would probably still be spendy but much more palatable to the average small lawn.
@@TurfMechanic yes exactly!
@@jpzsports there is a new product, i think it was as kickstarter. Oto sprinkler. basically this is what you describe. I think it's like 400$ can even shoot at specific plants in your flower beds
@@eat5hams thanks. I've seen the Oto and unfortunately my lawn is too large and it would take forever to cover it. The irrigreen handles a larger area but is much more expensive and designed for in ground irrigation
Can you just plug a hose to it or does it only work through piping
If you jerryrig a hose to it (the connector is a 1" male thread) you'll have to also jerryrig a "holder" for it to keep it above ground stable. Water flow come out pretty strong so it will move as the water jets turn. Also if it's above ground the lower water spouts will not spray the first foot or two around the head because of the elevated stance. Nozzles are designed for ground level use. So yeah, you probably could put it above ground but it's probably not a great idea.
@TurfMechanic so theoretically, you can do it, does it need the controller to work. To set the boundaries and such,? I already have a flow through spike base to stabilize it
@@lucienlachance6985 yes, the controller is nessesary to get it to work, and of course the spinkler wires that run from controller to the head which would also have to run above ground. It wouldn't be pretty but theoretically you could do it above ground if you really wanted to.
@@TurfMechanic thats awesome thanks man
Hi, do you accept business cooperation? About testing our smart irrigation controller and making a video.
How much does it cost?
You'd have to price it out for your yard to have an accurate estimate but a few thousand is reasonable guess for an average yard. I'll see if I can get a good set of estimates made for a variety of yard types and make a table to reference later this week.
Hi sir sent you an email would like to get some information from you if possible about soil sample and some idea you may have…
Nice... IF you have about $1600 dollars for ONE sprinkler!
Thanks but NO thanks!
