This song was set to music for the purposes of Joseph Vivilakis' shadow theatre "Philothei: the Lady of Athens", which was first performed with Athos Danellis and Nikolas Tzivelekis.
Lyrics translated in English (by Becka Wolfe):
Once there were some young men eating and drinking in a tavern,
The first amongst them was handsome Manolis
They were arguing over which one of their sweethearts was the most beautiful.
One of them teased Manoli:
“Mr Manoli, our captain
Your wife is so young and beautiful!”
“Where did you see her? How do you know this, where did you catch a glimpse of her?”
“In the rose garden I saw her as she was taking a stroll.”
“Since you say you saw her my comrade, tell me what she was wearing.”
“She was wearing a green scarf around her head, a velvet gown embroidered with gold, and around her wrists bracelets that glowed like embers.”
Manolis, the drunken fool, believed his words.
He returned home, found his wife and slaughtered her.
When morning came Manolis awoke sober, full of remorse.
He went to where they had buried her and wept:
“Rise up my darling, rise up my star
Change into your golden robes and come to the dance
So that the other girls may wither with envy
And the men become jealous
So that I, sorrowful man that I am may see you and rejoice.”
But his dead sweetheart did not heed his words
He who drew his sword to kill, was also killed.

@@georgemicu5167 My oud is from Turkey, made by Ramazan Calay!
In Turkey the a Turks have stolen all these Greek songs and presented as Turkish since 1923😁 They do the same for Kurds, Armenians, Persians and Arab songs, cultural heritage etc.
This is a composition of mine, my friend!
