    What I love about Sharpsburg is that if you cut out and picked up the entire neighborhood and dropped it into the middle of PA, it would just be any other little PA town. Its really amazing how its so self contained and that you barely notice that downtown is 3 miles down the river.

      @@DeanBog I'm a UK citizen and live in Sheffield - The original steel city :) I love your videos and have recently developed a strong interest in Sheffield's twin city Pittsburgh - Currently saving to visit! AFIK nothing similar you've done documenting Pittsburgh has ever happened here in Sheffield. Your idea is clear, simple, unique and your videos are professionally narrated and presented - skills unfortunately I don't posses. I know you like to travel and so if ever you come over to UK please please get in touch!

      @@DeanBog hey man, Highland Park would be cool to see. Then move on down through those neighborhoods which you might've already have done. East Liberty, Larimer, Morningside, and anyones you haven't done there. Still a lot of "soul" left in those areas, despite the gentrification of parts surrounding Google.

    So glad you did Sharpsburg!! It seems like you get a lot of footage. I would love to see longer videos, even if they are farther apart. You do great work and there's so much to learn about each neighborhood. These videos will be artifacts some day

      Thank you! That last bit is perhaps the nicest compliment I've ever received in all seriousness. I suppose I don't want to slow down because there are a lot of neighborhoods to cover. And 10 mins is about all I can manage to put together in a week.

  • @clepperM

    Dean,
    The work in all your videos I've viewed is fantastic, even outside of Neighborhoods. You clearly have a wonderful grasp of the art form.
    It's my hope that you come to realize and accept that what has set your Neighborhoods series apart from the rest of your features is not only your skills with a camera and software, but it is you. YOU are the star, and you are the star because of your ability to make the people you speak with the star of THEIR segment. You grant them comfort, audience and joy in their fifteen seconds of fame.
    That's the formula that makes these little moments so special.
    The flip side being that in a world of sensationalist coverage, we'd all gladly pay to see the real, human side of ourselves and our neighbors portrayed on a screen. Unfortunately, the big networks know it.
    Best wishes!

    Hey bro I'm a big historian type and Burgh lover and also love your videos cause I've always loved the different neighborhoods and the uniqueness they have ...I could talk about this stuff all day.. More than a few have told me I should be a tour guide or write books on The Burgh . I've lived in several neighborhoods and walked almost every street in most everyone of the cities neighborhoods and most so called boroughs that really are just as much a part of the Burgh such as Dormont, Carnegie, Crafton, The Rocks, Bellevue, Milvale,Etna, Sharpsburg, Aspinwall, Wilkinsburgh and down the Mon Valley...I know alot of folks like the suburbs but many more like myself love how the neighborhood feel lets you walk to the park or to get coffee or wherever and just be around the people places and feel at one with everything.. I love so many different neighborhoods but if I had to list my favorites I would say Squirrell Hill
    Shadyside
    Bloomfield
    Oakland
    Mt Washington
    Brookline
    And though its actually a borough
    Bellevue is up there as well .. Along with Dormont and Aspinwall
    ..

    • @DeanBog
      @DeanBog  5 лет назад +1

      Dang! Thank you for the thorough comment. And the list. So many spots to explore. I grew up in a suburban town so Im also a fan of the city neighborhoods. Good mix of city and suburb feel. I haven't explored enough to have a favorites list but I really love some of the spots on your list.

    Dope. I'm from Philly and your documentations of Pittsburgh are fascinating to me. Always been curious about the city always comparing and contrasting and what I've found the most intriguing is how old the neighborhoods look and how the citizens still take pride in the original neighborhood names. Philly has a few old looking areas but they are old from either a poor or rich aesthetic. For a big city Pittsburgh neighborhoods have a very rural gritty almost Boston like feel to them. I'd love to visit.

    @Dean Bog I'm a UK citizen and live in Sheffield - The original steel city :) I love your videos and have recently developed a strong interest in Sheffield's twin city Pittsburgh - Currently saving to visit! AFIK nothing similar you've done documenting Pittsburgh has ever happened here in Sheffield. Your idea is clear, simple, unique and your videos are professionally narrated and presented - skills unfortunately I don't posses. I know you like to travel and so if ever you come over to UK please please get in touch!

    a video about Sharpsburg and omit the main things of Sharpsburg. lol

    When you went in the municipal building you legally do not have to turn off your camera, it is a public building and there is no expectation of privacy in public, hold people like that accountable.
    The constitution trumps local policy.

      Damn thats intense. I try to be polite with the camera, so I was happy to oblige his request. Thats sort of what the whole issue was about. People being comfortable/uncomfortable with cameras.

    DUDE< LOL. At :36 that's my Barber Tony 👍 I've been getting my haircut from him for 21 years now. Great Barber, obviously.
    I live in Aspinwall , and I've had this same apt for 20 years. I hope you decide to do Aspinwall, this is one of the nicest communities in Pittsburgh, and even people who don't live here will say that.
    You seldom see anyone leave Aspinwall. We have a lot of young professional married people who buy starter homes, and when they move, they just buy a larger home and stay here. I've seen that happen so often.
    We also have a Park by the river that is improving year to year. It even has some food vendors who are there certain days of the week, plus we have some awesome restaurants. It's not a cheap place to buy a home, most are close to $300,000 and above, unless it needs something, and rent is high, but you get a VERY clean community and one where you can walk around at 2 am and you wouldn't have a thing to worry about. 😀.

    • @DeanBog
      @DeanBog  5 лет назад +2

      That is quite the pitch haha. I must say, the wooden chairs at the back of the park by the river make for a great summer sunset spot.

      @@DeanBog So you've been here.😊
      Well, I guess it was quite the pitch. Haha. But you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't have a positive outlook on this town. One of our Dr's at the Hosp I work at, who also lives here called it Mayberry. That's after an old show on TV. 😂
