Probably the best statement I’ve heard explaining the berg the torque resistance of a pig or zone but the fade of a typical slightly overstable putter 💯
I've been throwing Bergs for years. Similar you what you described, it is very much a disc that you build your approach game around. I think that is why it is so polarizing, it does not just fill a slot in the bag, it becomes a core feature of your entire game if it fits your approach style. If it fits your game there really isn't a disc that does it better than the Berg.
Current bagging 5 Bergs. 2 K3 Soft for putting, 1 K3 Hard, 1 K1 Soft for steep hyzer approaches without skip, 1 K1 Glow for full power shots. Not sure if I'm going to keep putting with it but it's been so windy lately it's been pretty money for me
I bag 2, K1 soft and regular K1. Both are amazing and fairly different. The regular K1 has the true 1102 flight rating and is great for higher power shots while the K1 soft is more like a 1101 or even 1100 but still has good torque resistance. I truly love the Berg, it brings me so much confidence out on the course.
I find that when I forehand my berg, which is decently new, it has just the right ammout of understability. Anything under 220 parked. I can get this disc going slightly left with forehand and holding it down the fairway, and that slight right finish just parks it. Have thrown this disc in 50+ feet forehand many times now. Holds the lines great. I love the mini S lines.
I really love how it sticks well on off camber ground and doesn't skip. It lands like a hamburger - and that is mostly how I use it. It is fairly wind resistant also when a glidey approach might be blown off course. It stays in my bag and I usually use it once or twice a game on my local woodsy uneven courses.
I have been searching for a straight flying disc for a while now. I'm not the most consistent player, so I tend to struggle with straight flying discs. They tend to either flip or fade. This thing is magic. I literally just threw one for the first time today. went to the shop and picked one up asap. ❤
I am a true Berg believer. (Bergliever?) I have just started bagging a Jarn, and am currently trying to figure out how to use the two in tandem. Thanks for the content.
I approach with a 160g K3 Berg. Its realy beat in. Between 150 and 180 feet, it will fly death straight. No turn, no fade at all. And thats why i love my Berg!
I do not have one yet. A buddy let me throw some of his though and I got to say that I can't get over the feel of it. I love it! It throws nice too. I do like throwing upshots at like 70%. I do not throw well when I have to power down to like 50%. I am going to get a berg for sure in the future.
I was one of those people that approached almost exclusively with a harp. I just couldn't control other glidier putter like I could it. Then I got berg. I still bag a harp but now it is only used for shots where I need to fade around something or work a flew through obstacles. The berg has completely taken over as my primary approach disc.
Rocking the K3 and K1 Bergs for months now. You nailed it saying it's not for shapey touch shots. Really more about powering into the chains or dropping out of the sky. I only use them for outside circle shots up to 200+ feet. Great reliable discs. Now I wanna try the K1 soft and K3 hard.
Yeah, I feel like the Berg is just sneaky overstable! like it doesn't have the big dump that you would expect out of an overstable approach disc... but at the same time it has the resistance to turn and the integrity of an overstable disc!
I bag 3 zones. One of them a first run test flight. It has the thumb track. And is to what I've felt close to the k3 hards. I do love my soft zone tho so plan to pick up a k1 soft berg to fill that void
That blue k1 color is beautiful! I wanna invest in a k1 soon because I’ve been loving my k3 berg. Funny enough I have that exact white with gold stamp k3 berg lol
For anyone looking to diversify your throws, try learning these two throws with the Berg. The air bounce, and the helicopter. These are incredibly handy tools to have for many reasons. And not easy throws to learn. But with practice you can master these approach shots and will use them to lower your score.
One of a few discs that I can say instantly shaved strokes off my game. I bought it for those shots where it's hard to judge distance and I don't want to overthrow it, but I've found it to be useful for so much more. Everyone should bag it, or at the very least give it a try.
I agree, everyone should at least try it out! It may or may not fit into everyone’s game. Like I usually have the opposite problem as you do… I always fluff my upshot’s and come up short if anything because I am more of a touch player… so I gravitate more towards approach discs with a little glide… but I can still appreciate the Berg! Super fun to throw!
I don't have a berg, but I love it. The two people I play with most both bag K1 or K1 Soft bergs, and I've thrown them on plenty of occasions. It's just such a special disc. I can tell myself I don't really need one, but then I get to a 70m downhill hole, throw my anode with 20% power, and it'll glide 50m past the basket (I'm not even exaggerating). There are some holes and some approaches that just beg for a berg. And with it being such a unique disc, I think it's really special.
I’ve been struggling to find the putter that felt right for me. Even though I have fairly large hands the big domey putters everyone likes just feel wrong. Whatever putters were in my bag, I’ve had both a VIP Harp and a K1 Berg for different approach shots. But then I found the MVP Atom. Yes it’s flat and shallow, but for some reason it seems to increase the margin of error where I can miss my line and still sink my putt. Then I discovered I could hit most of my Berg lines with the Atom. I still have a Harp in my bag, but my Bergs are currently riding a shelf. And I rotate two of my five electron Atoms into my bag fairly regularly.
The Atom is solid! And yeah, that’s the same reason I don’t really bag a berg. My putters can do something similar. But the glide definitely helps with people who just like to run the basket and not have a long comeback putt
@@ApolloDiscGolf Thanks. I honestly have a little tendon twinge in my elbow when I rotate my wrist outward for putts so for anything past circle 1, I use a scoober. I find that wrist motion doesn’t hurt and I kind of get the best of both worlds. It’s a ballistic full send but the spinny upside down disc doesn’t skip. So I don’t have to decide between laying up and putting in circle 2. It’s both.
I found a Berg barely used in my local pro shop used bin. I threw it low and flat for my first warn up throw on whole 1. It went maybe 110ft, definitely had good snap out of my hand and felt great. However I prefer my Harp because I know exactly what it does on every angle I throw it. The Berg just feels like it needs more everything to do what I want. Still can't beat finding an Oakley K1 for $16 that had only been thrown once maybe.
Oh wow, yeah that’s a solid deal! And yeah, the Berg is definitely a niche disc… but if it fits what you want, then there really is nothing better than it!

Have you ever thrown or done a review on the lone star armadillo? If not, I strongly urge you to order one and do a quick video on it. As soon as I felt it I was in love, and it pushed my double ace berg out of my bag after one round with it. It's seriously an amazing disc!
@@ApolloDiscGolf to clarify a bit, it's nothing crazy unique like the berg, and the flight characteristics are much more common to that of other straight flying putters. I'd say for many it would be reasonable to bag both, but for me the armadillo fills the same role as the berg did. Just a couple things to keep in mind for if you do try it.
I have a few k3 hard bergs - currently bagging one of them. Solely for situational approach shots. There are rounds in which i use it often - and rounds when i don’t throw it all. Not a putting putter for me at all. Just doesn’t work for me - but totally usable as an approach disc.
Always keep 1 Berg in my putter pocket. Don't use it all the time, but when I need, there's really no replacment....1 secret shot with the Berg, is just that scramble roller shot..This disc just goes for days on a hammer roller shot. That edge profile just keeps rolling straight without dumping left like every other short scramble putter roller will do.
Just found your channel! You make great videos. Super curious as to what you found has worked the best for your channel. Disc reviews like this? Better editing? I'm just starting out, and would take any advice! Again, great work, man!
Thanks! And for me, disc content has worked well. I think its just learning how to make good videos in terms of scripting, shooting, and editing. The whole thing! And I am by no means an expert, I have a long way to go!
I've been approaching almost exclusively with the berg for the past 1.5 years and really loved it. I almost never go past the basket on approaches, and if I make a mistake it's comming up short... So maybe a glidier approach would suit me better? I've been thinking about relying more on my medium pure to work on that touch approach for this season
Yeah they are both great options! Just depends on your game! I would definitely benefit from the touchier, glidier approach disc as I have a tendency to fluff my approaches… but if you like going all out on your approaches then the Berg is it!

Is it one that I can't live without? no but is it in my bag and used every round? yes! I also have a Toro for scrambles and an Omega4 in quantum plastic for more off the tee shots. I recommend everyone tries one of these before passing judgement and get your self a new Innova Toro its like the perfect mix of Zone and Harp. I love it and own the Zone, Harp and A2 but the toro is the ticket for me.
@@ApolloDiscGolf yeah I tried to grab two and my cart wasn't protected so I had to scramble and was able to get one of the Limited edition. they are great and should be dropping regular runs soon i'd think
@@ApolloDiscGolf it was 1m deeper than a Zone, 1 m shallower than a Harp. The hand feel is closer to a zone but its closer to a harp for stability so IMHO its more usable. Hope you get one soon!
I'm a touch approach kind of person that also finds uses for every type of approach style. My most used approach disc is a Pure, zero soft or gold-x depending on distance, but because of the variety of course types and wind conditions near me I often rely on my A3, Praxis, and Berg to fill the gaps. One of the best uses I've found for the Berg is short drives/approaches with a raging tail wind. My other discs, no matter how much they want to get to ground, can still skip and bounce, expose the flight plate and take off on their own adventure far away from the basket. The Berg has a tendency to fly, drop, then sit. It doesn't care if it's being pushed by the wind, it will still drop, and drop flat. For me the Berg is not some holy grail that makes everything perfect, but it definitely has areas where it is the absolute best option, so it stays bagged.
I specifically bought this disc as a putter and everyone keeps saying it’s horrible for putting. I love it as an approach and it feels fine to putt with I guess but now I’m just worried I’m going to have to get another disc to fill my putting slot if there really exists better options.
If the Berg works for you for putting, then I don't see a need for you to change! I can see why some would like it for putting because it doesn't really leave much for the comeback putt if missed.
Yeah, I think they were going for something different. there are a lot of overstable approach discs out there, I think they were wanting to make something unique. And there isn't anything like the Berg with the straight flight while still lacking the glide like it does!
Threw one at a 250ft hole, noticed it just SINK at the end of the flight and basically drop straight down. Came here to confirm this is the proper performance lol.
The K1 berg has made it where my short game is complete My berg and zone cover the up to 275 foot shots Touch Forehand Runs- Berg Hold Anhyzer- Berg Flat release straight shot- Berg Flat release to finish/fade- Zone Flex approach shots- Zone Hyzer bomb- Zone Skip shot- Zone
Cool video. Why don't you putt with it? I got one just to mess around with, and I love how it grips the chains. It just crumples when it hits and bounces out a lot less for me. Then again, I'm a newb...I like it a lot though. Had ten judges in my backyard for practice and I just ordered five k1soft's. Good vid. Subscribing.
I think it's just because the Berg doesn't have much glide, so it takes more effort to try and get it to the basket? I would just think that someone would want something with a bit more glide to putt with since this doesn't really like to stay in the air all that long!
@@ApolloDiscGolf that makes sense. I guess I like it for the opposite reason. If I miss it it sits down so fast that I typically can make the follow up putt.
I would say it has slightly better high speed stability/torque resistance, but less fade than an Envy, and it is definitely slower, the Envy is a pretty fast disc!
Yeah, they do beat in quick since they are base plastic... I personally didn't have any of mine crack, but I have had some friends that stopped bagging them because they didn't hold their stability super long
Lol, I am aware of what Luke thinks! And for sure, if you are a touch player, than this disc doesn't offer much... But I still respect it for what it does! It's a great disc!
People who throw bergs are like vegans, they are going to tell you about it. Don't get me wrong, the berg can be a great disc for the reasons already explained in the video but this disc is extremely overhyped. I have a k1 glow berg that I've used for short par 3 glow rounds and it works great for that. If you are thinking of getting one just don't go in thinking this disc is going to drastically change your game, there are plenty of discs that work great for the same purpose. Well done on the video! I enjoyed the layout and your insights!
I’m a vegan berg thrower. People usually ask me about it when I park it around the basket in approach shots. I just have to remember to use something with more glide when I’m further out. Definitely drops quickly. Love the feel.

If the Berg works for you for putting, then I don't see a need for you to change! I can see why some would like it for putting because it doesn't really leave much for the comeback putt if missed.
I don't personally use them. I like the lack of glide, but I wish they had true overstability. I use a Gateway Devil Hawk in this slot instead.
Yeah, I think they were going for something different. there are a lot of overstable approach discs out there, I think they were wanting to make something unique.
And there isn't anything like the Berg with the straight flight while still lacking the glide like it does!
you can't have true overstability without skip. And a Berg that skipped wouldn't be a Berg.
Threw one at a 250ft hole, noticed it just SINK at the end of the flight and basically drop straight down. Came here to confirm this is the proper performance lol.
Yes, a very unique disc for sure 😂
The K1 berg has made it where my short game is complete
My berg and zone cover the up to 275 foot shots
Touch Forehand Runs- Berg
Hold Anhyzer- Berg
Flat release straight shot- Berg
Flat release to finish/fade- Zone
Flex approach shots- Zone
Hyzer bomb- Zone
Skip shot- Zone
GREATEST DISC TO BLESS THE EARTH!!! 💙💞
@@TheWunshot Yeah, that's what Scott Stokely said! He putted with Bergs for a bit for the same reason!
Try spin putting in head wind. Does miracless. No unwanted lift
Need to figure out regular putting first... lol
How would you compare it to something like an Envy?
I would say it has slightly better high speed stability/torque resistance, but less fade than an Envy, and it is definitely slower, the Envy is a pretty fast disc!
It throws like a rock with no character . It blows like your disc golf game .
I love all the nova discs I threw but they do not hold up. They cracked within three months
Yeah, they do beat in quick since they are base plastic... I personally didn't have any of mine crack, but I have had some friends that stopped bagging them because they didn't hold their stability super long
Well done.
Thank you! 🙌🏼
Anything 150 feet and in, it’s my go to
Definitely a solid upshot disc!
Greatest disc!!!
Thank you for doing our Berg & Savior justice.
You are very welcome!
Stokley just announced he isn’t putting with bergs anymore
Yeah, saw that after filming. He still putted with them for a good long while!
yes
I also love throwing the Berg but don't bag it lol funny how that works
Don’t worry, I am in the same boat 😂
The Berg is so straight on forehand I always miss.😉
Yeah it is so good on forehand!
Don't bag it myself, more of a touch and angle approach shooter. Ask Luke from @swanky what he thinks of the Berg...
