- With help from your feedback I have acquired my new guitar amp modeler. Did I choose the best amp modeler for 2023? Is it the Line 6 Helix or the Fender Tone Master Pro? Or maybe the Quad Cortex got to me. Perhaps it was the Fractal Axe FxIII or FM9. Watch to find out!

Great decision Dan. The FM9 is definitely the sweet spot for price, DSP and IO.
Thanks! Early on I felt this device sat in that sweet spot. Looking forward to creating more content on it.
I have to applaud your choice. I've been playing and gigging with my FM3 for a few years now and I just upgraded to the FM9 (keeping the FM3 as a back-up). I am SOOOO happy with this device.
Great minds think alike my friend!!
Thanks for the video, happy to give you a hand taking the trash out!!!!😀
Any time! ;)))))))
Its what call's out to you as the player. I have the Axe FX FM9 along with a Helix floor. I sold my quad cortex and bought the fender TMP and ive honestly not been able to stop playing on this unit i love it and i feel in a few more months it'll been a lot higher on people's list of the modeler to get . Love all my gear and the fm9 rocks you made a good choice. You should also give that TMP a try its so intuitive and just a well rounded unit.
Agreed
Thanks! I definitely plan to get my hands on more devices. The TMP is on that list for sure.
Hello, I just sold my QC after having it for a year. My TMP arrives tomorrow. Are you still happy with your TMP? I am concerned that the updates will be slow in coming... I was also wondering if Fender will ever make it so it can be used with an iPad. Do you know if it may happen?
Subscribed on the intro alone!😂😊🎉
Ha! Thanks so much! Glad to have you here!
went for Kemper head with a Kemper Power Kabinet, so left Marshall and Orange, as well as the 2x12" cabinet and the pedal board. Got more space, less back ache and really amazed by Kemper
Saddens me a little to hear about the real gear losing out to modelers but I get it at the same time. Enjoy it!
Yeah, you went with the best company 😊 I have Fractal Axe FX 3 mk 2 for studio and gig use and Line6 Helix for rehearsals ❤
I'm enjoying it very much. So many possibilities!!
Having both the fender TMP and fm3 turbo, I still think that the TMP have the best fender amp model sounds, when using the TMP’S stock IRs (otherwise no). There will be a plethora of updates coming for the TMP for the identified issues.
I'm certain the TMP will get better and better. The only unknown is how much Fender is committed to it. For Fractal, that's their business 100%. For Fender the TMP is a new product category and just one of many, many products. Time will tell...
Excellent choice! Have been rocking the FM9 since it first came out, no regrets
Thanks! Really happy with it....glad you are enjoying yours!
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Congratulations on aquiring the FM9. I've been using a Presonus Quantum 2626 Thunderbolt 3 audio interface for a couple of years now and with it's incredibly low latencey can use any of the ampsim plugins available today. Great in the studio. For live playing still use real amps, but have been considering adding some type of hardware modeler to my arsenal. I do still also use real amps, either with mics or load boxes and IR's in studio as well. Almost too many choices today.
Thanks! Your last statement nailed it. SO MANY options these days. But it’s a great time to be a guitar player. You just need to know what you want.
Congrats on the fm9 sounds great! Been a line 6 user forever just switched to a quad cortex this year why? Because I mainly play bass the fractal line of stuff is very limited same with the quad cortex but the capture feature is why I went for it. I bought it captured my amps and pedals and in 15 minutes I was making music with no intentions of buying anything else and it’s been living strong since. The happiest I’ve been in a very long time.
Thanks!! Been enjoying it. I have a helix in the studio now too. I'd like to get my hands on a QC too...maybe...we'll see :). Enjoy yours!!
Funny how the Boss GT-1000 is hardly ever included in these... it's an awesome unit!
I've used the GX100 and ME90. I know what Boss can do. For me this lacked the signal routing I wanted. That's mainly why it didn't make the list....
@@LonelyRocker I said GT-1000, which has tons of routing but it's all good!
I demo’s a friend’s Fractal. Great sounds for sure. Processing power for days.
Really great device. Having a lot of fun.
I think you made a good choice on getting the FM9. I also made the same choice and use one now too.
It’s a smart unit for sure. Really enjoying it. I also just got a Helix on loan from Line 6 so it will be fun comparing. The FM9 is staying 100%.
I have a Headrush Core and its awesome....
Glad you’re enjoying it 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I am a Kemper Powerhead owner and its great and all but I have still not found anything as satisfying as a cranked tube amp. More so for a live performance!
Curious. if you could only keep one of your current tube amps.....which would it be?
Great question and VERY easy to answer. That ENGL Powerball II is mine for life!!! Great amp....
You have chosen the best and most expensive. Enjoy it. It s hard to get this shit in europe without some wizardry, which I m not wiling to do.
There are distributors in Europe but you’re right. It’s not cheap. I have been enjoying it though.
@@LonelyRocker There are but fishy if you ask me. Basically this porduct is not sold in europe in normal shops. I don t know why, it s stupid
I'm surprised that the Headrush Pedalboard is very rarely mentioned on these charts. I suppose it has something to do with the company's passive advertising strategy, but the Headrush pedalboard is underrated. He has everything that is needed.
It definitely has it's fans but pro guys I know who've tested it side by side with things like Helix and Fractal feel it's one step down from those modellers. But it's a player for sure...
I’ve used a lot of them (and plugins), and my FM9 is the best I’ve used for amp modeling accuracy. It’s uncanny how realistic it is.
My second favorite is still the Helix Floor. The UI on it is fantastic, the variety and completeness of models is stellar, and it’s quite refined after all these years. But many of its amp models are just a tiny bit short of Fractal. Not bad by any means, but just lacking some of the tiny nuances of Fractal.
Thanks for your thoughts. The FM9 jumped right out at me from the beginning. Kind of a best of both worlds thing. Really enjoying it so far. I’m working on getting some Line 6 gear in here as well. I want to experience as much as I can but my first choice was clear 😎
Great video introduction to the new device. I would be very interested in a video on using the unit in a live situation. Keep going lonely rocker 👍🏿🎸
Thanks so much kind stranger!
good choice!!
So far I'm feeling good about it :)
love the retro 1080 quality guy
Are you saying I need a new camera? 😂😂😂
the cpu in the axe fx cost like $40. dual core 1ghz TI chip. wish someone would make an actual next gen amp modeler with an up to date processor, there's no reason for any of these things to have aliasing and input delay.
It’s a lot more than that. The integration and implementation of the hardware and software is what makes this thing so good.
I would like to see how you have your devices conected, and how you record your guitars
That's 100% going to be made. I spent a lot of time figuring out the best way to set it up. There's a lot of great info out there but there are some gaps in this topic. I plan to fill that in the coming weeks and months. Stay tuned!!
Great choice man! Cool video :)
Thanks man! 😎🤟🏼🤟🏼
I love my Kemper rack and my UAD pedals.
Nice combo!
So, what amp will be powering your Fractal FM9?
I don't play live so I don't need a power amp...I connect it via USB to my computer...
Headrush Prime is the best after the new update,3.1.2. With 2 FRFR speakers, I am having any tone I want. Enjoy your gig, they all have something good, I guess, but I got all I wished from a modeler from HD Prime.
HR has its fans for sure...I'll definitely try to get my hands on one for the channel....
(Pauses at reveal) Yup, you got the best modeler.
(Goes back to watch rest of video)
Ha!! Like your style :) Thanks for watching!
Very funny intro 😅
With recording in mind, what about plugins? I mean, at the end it’s all software emulation, there shouldn’t be a difference between a digital external device like the Fractal and a VST… what do you think?
Thanks! I did mention in the video that was an option. Get a good IO box and use software. I just felt the fractal effects are so high end and they get processed outside the DAW so it doesn’t tax my cpu. Plus when tracking I can play through tones without any latency.
@@LonelyRocker very smart, thank you for the reply and your video 🙏
I don't think we are in the time of VSTs yet. They can sound like anything, and that is no longer the point. Almost anything can sound good in a mix nowadays. The point is how do you feel when playing using VSTs, pedals or amps. To me, VSTs just don't feel nice to play yet.
I'll take the lot off your step!!!
First come first served! ;))))))))
Line 6 will forever equate to Marty Feldman - thanks Dan
It’s my duty! 😂😂😂😂😂
If I had a wall of amps like that my girlfriend would disown me lol. Unless you have an entire studio stacking more then 3 amps is a no go.
Ha! Kudos to my wife for putting up with me 😎 2 reasons to have a lot of amps. Love and choice 😂😂😂
On behalf of The Guitiverse, we salute you.
Thank you so much. I stand proud and I'm happy to represent :)))))
If i were rich i would have bought the Axe FX III but i will stay with the kemper haha
Still a great device to have! I will need to try Kemper eventually. 😎🎸🤘🏽
I'd be curious to see a comparison between the Kemper and the AxeFX in terms of feel, or to have an opinion on whether the AxeFX deserves to cost 1000/2000 euros more than a Kemper.
I love my Kemper, but if I could go back in time I'd go for the kemper stage rather than the kemper head without the power amp. But it's an incredible tool that's still going strong after 10 years.
@@LonelyRocker
I've never tried a Kemper...perhaps I need to remedy that ;)
Why u still keep the tone x ?
Because I think it's a great product and Is till use it....
No, I think you picked what the crowds picked and not what has the most future potential.
When will a multieffects device be good enough? We're constantly being brainwashed into wanting the very latest thing. Do these devices like the Fractal, Quad Cortex etc suddenly become complete garbage and have to be replaced after 2 years?... To me it's pure hype.
I have a friend who owned a Line 6 Helix and he wanted to get the new Fender. When asked why, he said " because its the latest thing out there. "
He plays thrash metal in his bedroom FFS!...
How many distortions or overdrives do you need, and is the quality of the sound so much better on the latest stuff?...
Ultimately thats what it comes down to; sound quality.
Haven't we reached the point where the human ear can't tell the difference?
Connectability?... We're there already. How many ways do we need to connect to other devices?
99.9% of us don't need, or use, the complexity that these devices offer, so why the need to upgrade to the latest thing?
I rest my case!
I always stress in my videos that players should acquire gear based on their personal needs. You’re right. The digital age has created this feeling of always needing the latest and greatest. I blame Apple for that. It’s a shame because good guitar gear shouldn’t “time out”. Amps are forever if you take care of them.
Hey if they need a place to stay while they are transitioning to the next chapter of their lives I know a spot😅
Ha!! i'll keep that in mind ;-)
I don't want to be judgy but i think my neural dsp plugins sound better :|
We all have different tastes….it’s all good….
The Fender Tone Master Pro is the modeler that is flying off the shelves. Back ordered to March 2024. Combined with the Fender Tone Master FR-12 or FR-10 cabs, back ordered to Jan 2024. Your numbers are not the reality. Fender has the Lion's share of sales. The updates will make the TMP even more of a hot item. Boss's numbers are higher than you suggest too. Tube amp players are going Fender. Joe Bonamassa can afford anything he wants and he is going Fender. I give you the point that, for now, Fractal is 99% most accurate for sound but all the modelers are 90% plus now. The flagship TMP is just on version one of updates so the sound is going to improve. Also the biggest point equal with sound is UI (User Interface). As important as ears are to music, human beings get 90% of all information through their eyes. So intuitive ease of use is critical if sound is very close. Most people (90%) cannot tell the difference in sound in a blindfold test. But 100% of people can see the difference. Many will go to Fender just because it is Fender, a million people like me. Many will not go to Fender because it is Fender and what audacity they had to compete with the big guys. They remind me of high school drop out climate activist Greta Thunberg who said, "How dare you!"
I don’t think the lack of availability tells us anything. It’s a new product and they are ramping up production. Without naming names I have a good source in distribution. They bought a ton of TMPs and he’s worried it’s going to have to be discounted once the initial rush phases out. I have good sources in the industry, a player with decades of industry experience who absolutely LOVES the TMP. And I have others with equal industry experience who hate it. What this tells me is the TMP is like any other product. It will be the absolute best solution for some players and the wrong solution for others. I’m interested in getting one here because it would be a great topic to cover and I’m very interested to see how it grows. You’re right. It’s very early. We need to see how committed Fender will be going forward. It all depends ultimately on sales. And BTW, Joe Bonamassa got one from Fender. I’m certain we won’t see him using it onstage anytime soon. I chose Fractal because it was the best studio solution FOR ME. But I also said I will be acquiring other devices too. Stay tuned!
I love in Chile and there are tons of TMP available on their distributor, fractal is sold out...
I think the trend will change as Fender puts out more updates. The TMP is very powerful hardware-wise.@@richo144
Line 6 will eventually put out a new device with crazy horsepower plus their decades of knowledge in modeling. That will be the device to look out for.
I went through my Line 6 phase years ago. I'm 66, staying with Fender. @@LonelyRocker
