As others have pointed out, fanfiction is a medium by-fans-for-fans and for good reason. For some people, fanfic is a fun silly hobby to continue beloved stories or to make more content of beloved characters! For a lot of people, it's a way to explore new or under-developed facets of the original source. For others, fanfic is a way to tell the stories that they *need--* and that can be anything from a story that represents their identity through their favorite characters to even things like recovery from trauma. For any number of reasons, fanfiction can be extremely personal to the people who write it and they choose to share it with people who they know will understand and interact with them as equals. Adding the creators of the source material into the mix...can get hairy. Adding *publicity* to fanfiction can get downright *dangerous* for the authors. As kind and supportive as I believe you would be, I'm sorry to say but the fans in this fandom are NOT as kind or supportive to each other :( Outside of anything you as the creator of the source material can control, as with any large group of people, there are bullies and people who *will* harass and abuse people. Fanfiction authors have historically been and continue to be a prime victim for these people in fandom who want to hurt others. If you need an example of how afraid of harassment people who write fanfiction for Minecraft series are, the *majority* of fanfictions that are posted anonymously (out of all fandoms) are for Minecraft fandoms. I don't think I know anyone who has written fanfiction in this fandom who *hasn't* received unkind comments. Cyberbullying is rampant. And it's even *worse* for people who include representations of queer identities for the characters that aren't shared by the person who created the character. That's just the reality of being a fan creator in this fandom. We do it anyway because we are passionate and we create for ourselves and for the people who are similarly passionate. When I tell you that people I know were genuinely panicking about the idea of their stories being read on stream or for a video, please listen :( Fanfiction is *months* and sometimes even *years* of work, and it's heartbreaking when people who don't understand what we do make fun of it. We know the risks when we post and we can handle the occasional mean-spirited person coming through, but bullies this fandom loves to bully in groups and dog pile on people they think "deserve" to be harassed. It can get *bad* bad. Creators reacting to fanfiction has never ended well for the people who write the fics. People are begging you not to do this because we who know fandom history have seen this before and know where it's going and it's not something you can control, no matter how good your intentions are. Someone else suggested the idea of putting out a call specifically for fanfictions *to* read on stream/video and I think that's a great idea!! People who consent to their work being shared beyond the audience who understands fanfiction know the risks and would be able to create something that they *intend* to share. Failing that, I would *strongly* recommend enlisting the help of someone who *is* familiar with the culture surrounding fanfiction and knows how to navigate it. I know this is long and I'm not sure it will ever even be something that you see, but I hope someone's comment on this topic reaches you and that you take it seriously. I genuinely love how much you support your fans' creations! It's definitely attention and recognition we don't normally get. But reacting to fan content is a path well-tread by many content creators past that has had many a sad ending, particularly for the fans. Please proceed with caution!
