  • Disney Live Action Remakes are just one major example of when a remake is widely hated. But hatred and anger are two different things. Why do Disney Live Action Remakes make us uniquely mad? We love some remakes. Turns out film is too late into its evolution for remakes to be necessary. And especially with Disney Movies, they are a fundamental part of our identity.

Im 62, and my parents were both over 40 when I was born, my grandparents were born before 1900.
I was exposed to their favorite media when growing up, and gained an appreciation for music and movies from well before my time.
And yes, one of the things I see wrong in modern Hollywood is the abandonment of the hero's journey, if not the absolute inversion of it.
It saddens me to know that whenever a movie gets remade, that the original almost never gets watched again.
And often, what's missing in even the best remakes, are the original portrayals by the talented actors that brought a role to life for the first time.
I love Johnny Depp's Wonka, but I adore Gene Wilder, who brought a gentlemess and sweetness to it that wasnt quite there in Depp's.
And yes, part of that is nostalgia, sure, but there's also a trend in newer movies away from caring about their characters.
They adapt characters to story, rather than stories to character.
And that loses something, I think.
Thoroughly enjoyed this, by the way.
(And "The Ten Commandments" is great, sorry, not sorry.)

The enuma elish did not influence the genesis creation account, they're so far removed from each other its not even funny. The whole point of the creation account is that it was passed by word of mouth through generations of people, almost like a game of telephone. The hebrews held onto a monotheistic account of creation whereas the babylonians held onto a pagan polytheistic view of creation, on top of many other minute and major differences. The babylonians most likely wrote it sooner than moses wrote the torah, so it had more than likely been word of mouth for the israelites.
