If you wanna see me gush about a NEW rpg gem, check out my recent review/swooning love letter on Dragon Quest. ruclips.net/video/3tudBhUHWbU/видео.html
Holy crap, I grew up with this game. I am in complete shock to see someone else cover it. Thanks for the video, this was an enjoyable trip down memory lane.
We had this game when I was little too, it's crazy to see it, because I hadn't seen game play of this game since that time! I never got far on that game myself, but I enjoyed it the little I did play it. I grew up with 3 brothers so I never really could get far on single player games on console.
I. Miss. This. Game. So. Much. This was my very first RPG, and the story still makes me cry at the end. Heck, the opening makes me tear up, too. It's great to see I'm not alone, that other people love this game just like me. Thank you.
I was convinced that this game was a fever dream. I played it through in its entirety over a summer, renting it from my local video store VIDEO GIANT. I had to have been 10, and boy howdy did I love it. Upon finally finding the games generic title, I found *your video*. And, boy am I glad I did. It seems to have resonated with you in a starkly similar way. Absolutely wonderful overview, showcase and stellar jokes all around. You are my favorite person today 🌻
Its indeed a hidden gem, a very touching storyline with alot of side quest and a heartwarming music. Glad you actually make a video about this masterpiece.
Growing up I never was able to purchase a PS2 so I distinctly remember a good chunk of my childhood playing this and Digimon World. I even remember being nine years old and beating this game, then making a huge drawing of all the characters and hanging it up in my room. The music honestly still tugs at my heartstrings with how upbeat and sincere it was, just like the whole game.
I remember seeing this game in a gaming magazine as a child, but I never actually played it until recently. Was not expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. In particular, I kinda like how for most of the game, Knight and Baby were relatively small players in the plot. You had Darkbeat trying to get revenge against Karmine and his cult and you had Kalkanor and his party going around collecting the magical mcguffins needed to stop the villain only for everything to blow up in his face. For most of the game, both Darkbeat and Kalkanor were one step ahead of you and it isn't until near the end of the game where both Knight and Baby were able to step up to the plate once the other two got their asses handed to them. I also love how the game really pushes you to train and nurture Baby. I ended up learning the hard way what happened if you didn't train him and feed him a lot. And that made the whole experience that much more engaging and rewarding. Knight and Nehani were also great in their own way. Despite being a silent protagonist, I really enjoy how he's characterized as a bit of a goober through Nehani who constantly nags at him not to do things like raiding people's drawers, how he should keep his own place clean and add new stuff to his home and how he does the weirdest things like mistake his own reflection for a person trapped inside a gem or creepily staring at a couple for five minutes. It's a very charming way of making a silent protagonist. It's honestly a great game and I'm shocked I never played it until now.
My first ever RPG game and probably the reason why I love the genre, this game really defined my childhood and will never forget this game, I wish there was some sort of remake or sequel.
I'll never forget playing this game as a kid, and training up Knight in one of the little hidden areas you fly too surrounded by a mountain where the strongest monsters would always spawn. Such a good game, and so many good memories. I still have my copy, as well.
I loved this game so much, I legitimately think it could get a remake and be loved by new fans if done right and got a good update to things and added content. It was just so rad and no one played it.
Wow! I remember wanting this game after seeing it on the shelf inside a Funkoland store. Next time I went back, it was gone from the shelves and the store clerks couldn't decipher a little kid's description of the cover art which is all I could remember. Thank you for uploading this and showing me a long lost game.
Loved this game when I was a kid. It's just such a lovely twist on RPGs. I still have the game, I should give it another go soon, I could use some cute and light-hearted games nowadays.
I actually played this a lot when I was a kid. Nobody knew this game except me back then, when I asked my friends to get this game they couldn't find it, so I lent them my copy and it never found it's way back to me.
There's a video with 2 million views in turkish about someone explaining the painful 3 years it took for him to actually beat this game as a child (the main reason it took this long for him to beat the game was the fact that he didn't know english at the time)
I legitimately teared up during this. I had completely forgotten about it until this video popped up. This was one of the biggest defining games in my life man....I absolutely loved this game and it makes me SO happy to see it again.
Such a shame it apparently didn't sell well. Luckily, lots of folks seem to have had it back in the day. Seem like a promising studio. Wonder what happened to it.
I’m so excited to see a proper review of this game! I saw a segment in some gaming magazine circa 1998/9 on it that had a section walkthrough of the cave of fear. It looked so charming and neat that I actually bought the game outright. I’m so glad I did, and this game could totally use a HD remaster. It could also be pointed out that there’s neat touches: as knight levels up, the number of attacks he makes for his basic attack increases, the traveling merchant Bonik upgrades his inventory, and dialogue changes in the various towns depending on where you are in the story.
This was my first playstation RPG, actually. This game had a huge impact on me. It was really the game that got me into deeper, more mature RPGs. Even at 11 years old the emotional aspects of the game really spoke to me. The journey itself was really well done, with bosses that mop the floor with you in early fights that you later come to overpower. So many memories.. It's crazy that this was 21 years ago.
My dad bought me this game when I was younger, I remember picking it out from the video game aisle at Toys R Us. i named baby: Mew and always tried to get him to transform into ibkee. thanks for covering this I just discovered this channel.
I came across your channel again for some reason I was thinking about Zelda Majora's Mask and I remembered years ago I watched your video analysis on it and man you had me thinking a lot about that installment in the Zelda franchise. My favorite Zelda will always be Zelda OoT but I played them games when I was younger so I didn't have the mental ability to break down those games from a deeper perspective but now as an adult to understand the stories more I never look at games the same as I once did as a child. Thank you for those Legendary videos that changed my view on games we played as children.
Alright alright I'm getting it. It looks really fun. I'll edit this comment when I finish it for all zero people that will know. EDIT: I finished the game! I did it in about two very very long sittings because I was having tons of fun. It's a great game, with good writing and a surprising amount of subversive themes, like other main characters essentially playing their own generic fantasy games. The game is pretty easy aside a couple of weird spikes mostly due to the insane amount of options the toys provide. Chester is my favourite video game character now. The more the game opens up, the more fun it gets with what you can do, and the world is never so big that it's hard to navigate. Amazing recommendation, and immediately one of my top ten or twenty favourite games. Not many will know that my comment morally obligated me to do this and turned out fantastic. But I'll know. That's what matters.
I'm a bit of the way into it now and having a really good time. The Baby mechanics are very weird and a little underexplained even in the manual, but if you feed him basically everything you own including your weapons and armour he gets huge fast. My favourite toy so far is Viper, that Paralysis is amazing.
My friend and I loved this game so much. We would play each other's save files together when we were at our houses! Did absolutely everything in this game including getting the prototype living toy and finding I believe every secret event. I'm not even sure why I liked it so much, but something really does make it charming
I remembered it wrong then. The final toy, the one its ghost creator gives to you after finding the rest of them, I remember it to be the "legend" toy.
I remember there was a codebreaker code back in day where it force Baby to transform into any monster during the battle with the proper hex decimal code (xx) to match the base code . So I was able to have Darkbeat on my team, it's was pretty cool because there wasn't a baby model for Darkbeat so it would load the actual Darkbeat from the uncontrollable fights.
I haven't played this game in a few years but I'm glad to see someone doing a big review on it. I got this game as a kid and still have my copy of it. This is one of the many rpgs I'd like to see get re-released or remastered someday. Honestly I'd like to see all ps1 and ps2 rpgs to get remastered someday.
The "whatever this thing is" symbol close to the toys that stay at the battlefield seems to be the silhouette of a head and shoulders, so it might mean that it's like a character that stays in the fight... at least that's what I see, but who knows, I had never heard of this game before anyway
This game is one of the best rpg I played when I was still a child. I was a little annoyed when no one knows this game when I was still a child. It game is still a really good game until now.
I rented this a few times from Family Video and it was easily one of the best RPGs I'd played at the time. I still have some fond memories, even if they're a little fuzzy. There are so many toys to collect in that game it was unreal.
I’ve watched this video at least 10 times now, and I can honestly say you’re an incredibly entertaining reviewer. I’ve wanted to watch your twitch, but since I’m working four months straight with no days off, all I can really suffice is just your videos before I go to bed. Watching your videos honestly makes me wish you uploaded more.
I have been searching for the title of this game my whole life. I used to visit an old friend's house to watch him play it on the PS1, and I have a vague imagery of Baby and some of the other bosses, but I could never put my finger on the title of the game. Thank you so much for this!!
Remember renting and liking it way back in the day. The battle theme definitely makes one think a delivery guy is gonna show up and ask if anyone ordered a pizza with extra sausage.
Hey, thanks for making this video! I tried to find a video like this years ago and only just thought to check again because someone made a reddit thread about under rated JRPGs. I have really fond memories of this game and exposed a good handful of my friends to it as kids. Nostalgia overload.
God, I'm currently going through my 39 play through and you nailed almost everything I like about the game. Also, you have the exact same disc I've had for 16 years (yes it still works!). With the Hollywood video sticker and everything.
This game has a very small but very special place in my life I remenber getting stuck in a town where there was to be an election, because I didnt knew english at the time. When I finally got good on that front and decided to go back at that game I was impressed that it was so good. I even remenber to start playing Tibia after finishing the game and naming my charater DarkKalkanor because that knight you meet during the game had just the best name ever Also... my version of the game was a pirate one (sorry devs Brazil is a bad country) so I had no acess to the manual, as such baby never did much more than bite and ocasionaly (very ocasionaly) heal me. Still I adore that little guy
This brought back some really good memories from when I was a kid and didn't really know how to play games properly. I played it again maybe ten years ago and got halfway and now I've downloaded it again and got through the first section this evening. Really great to see the overwhelming amount of people commenting profoundly fond memories with this game
I remember when I was little and there was an add for it in a magazine. Always wanted to play it. Instead I wrote a short story based off the art about what I thought it might have been about. Glad to find out it was actually pretty good.
I just stumbled across this game today-I played it when I was little but completely forgot about it for over 20 years! I never would’ve remembered it on my own! I’m getting all teary looking at the footage and I don’t know why! You didn’t give enough spoilers for me to figure that out hahaha! I guess I’ll just have to watch your playthroughs sometime.
Oh it brings the feelings for sure. I can understand that reaction. Sometimes an old kids show or game takes me right back to how I felt the first time. Final Fantasy and Zelda especially.
i actually still have a physical copy of this game, in german though i never finished this game as a kid, i got lost when i got to the part with the traveling on the sea, its like golden sun all over again.
I loved this game as a child. Still have my copy and the Game Informer issue telling readers about all the toys and their effects. I was worried you weren't going to mention the groovy Cave of Fear track while you were hyping up the games music, glad you covered it since it is my favorite track in the game.
I had such vague memories of this game, and had almost forgot it all together. But as soon as I saw that pink little guy in my RUclips feed, I was instantly transported back to a young me, playing this game. Man did I love this game and am sad I never had the chance to beat it. Better late, than never I suppose!
I adore this game. I just finished playing it with my cousin. Apparently you can pull up a mini map while you're walking around and flying. Which we didn't find out until just before the final battle.
I found this video because that smooth jazz track from the sex cave has randomly entered my head at least 8 times in the past 20 years since I played this game. I searched on google for “PlayStation RPG with pink creature that can morph” and this is where I landed. Love that you highlighted that track, catchy as shit!
So cool to find this. I remember my mum getting me this game when she also got me 'Speed Freaks' which was the one I actually wanted but I'd never heard of it at the time but this was what got me into rpg's, in fact it inspired me to play and complete it again recently
I very, very much enjoyed this video. Made me immediately put this game on my "gotta get sooner than later" list, so thanks for that. You just got yourself a new subscriber who is MORE than eager to see all the other content you have *thumbs up*
Literally just found your channel due to that Digimon World thing that jumped into my recommendations from literally nowhere and I'm staying for this. This game definitely looks like something I would enjoy now that I can see a game beyond its graphics (although as a kid and a teen I still had some passion for pixels and low poly, I guess cuz I grew up with a GBC and two games for it). I'm staying and beyond that, I'm gonna download the PS1 emulator to try this out. One must!
4k views. Man. This was honestly my first ever RPG and is what introduced me to the genre. Still have the game and case and i dont ever want to get rid of it. I love this game so much and am so happy to see someone make a video on it. Awesome stuff man.
"Overgrown potato fascist" is an amazing insult, and I thank you for bringing it into my life. Also, lovely video, on a lovely game. Gliding on Emotions still makes me tear up even a decade later
thanks for making a video. I loved this game as a child. my friend loved watching me play it too. It may not be very sophisticated, but I think in some way it works in its favor.
I played this with my cousin when I was a kid and since then, have been STRUGGLING to find the name of this game. I finally found it and, like you, I felt like I was the only one who knew about this gem! Thanks for this awesome video, i'm going to go back and play it now :)
Recently finished playing the re-release of Chrono Cross, and was left wanting to play other games from that era of my childhood. Pretty sure Guardian's Crusade was the first game I ever beat. Just left Trisken and the game is just as wonderful as I remember it. It's so nice seeing at least someone on youtube give it a little love. Hopefully this video inspires people to pick it up for the first time. Great review!
Thank you! It's one of my absolute favs. So glad my dad let me get it as a kid. I mainly picked it up because you could raise a monster and I was super into pokemon at the time. It opened up the whole new world of JRPGs to me as a child. I played FF9 a bit later and my fate was sealed lol. Love these games~
I played the hell out of this game. It’s been a loooong time, but it really is charming and you’re right about the game mechanics. It was a very underrated game. Thanks for doing this one.
Somehow I am only seeing this video 6 years late, but god I remember this game. Always felt like a fever dream, no one but me that I knew had ever heard of it or had it.
God, what a trip down memory lane - I grew up on this. I remember loving it, and being super frustrated with it. I'm pretty sure I never managed to get more than half way through it. Think I'm going to have a dig in the loft, see if I can find my old copy. So weird I just stumbled on this video and your RUclips - Great stuff!
This game has been the one game that when I talk about ‘favorite games’ people just look at me blankly, but it really stuck with me. I don’t know if I could look at a PlayStation without being taken back to this gem.
I had to go on reddit to remember what the name of this game was when I had thought about it a couple years ago at random. I played it a ton as a kid, too. For some reason, the main thing I remembered about it was the wind-up Jupiter toy being really strong. Also, that Hollywood Video logo on the disc brings back memories.
This game was a huge part of my childhood. It sat in a pile of games and I never touched it till one day I was home sick from school and popped it in and put down Ape Escape. Best decision I made. I introduced the game to my friends and we spent weeks playing it after school! So many amazing memories cause of this game
Wow this really reminds of the Wii Jrpg Opoona in a way(another really creative cute beginner friendly jrpg that doesn’t get enough love imo), With the zany enemies, unusual groovy music, and fun quirky gameplay mechanics. I’ll definitely have to give this a go sometime soon. Thanks so much for bringing it to my attention!
I played this game as a kid, and in order to find the name of it again I had to look through a list of every single RPG on the PSX. That's how you know a game is obscure. Good to see someone else with strong feelings towards it still.
If you wanna see me gush about a NEW rpg gem, check out my recent review/swooning love letter on Dragon Quest. ruclips.net/video/3tudBhUHWbU/видео.html
Damn i wish more people new about this game. Ive passed it at least 6 times because it was so integral to my childhood.
Thank you for spreading the good word. I know i'm kinda late to the party, but we played this with the parents and I still remember it fondly.
Miss this
I love this game!!! We have the hardcopy.
Holy crap, I grew up with this game. I am in complete shock to see someone else cover it. Thanks for the video, this was an enjoyable trip down memory lane.

@@TriegaDN i had this game as well and am in the process of beating it again
Me too! one of my favorites as well, working on arranging the music in jazz style!
Hello everyone, we share the same memory in this game
totally agreed 😭
I. Miss. This. Game. So. Much. This was my very first RPG, and the story still makes me cry at the end. Heck, the opening makes me tear up, too. It's great to see I'm not alone, that other people love this game just like me. Thank you.

Wow, its nice to see a game "You've Never Heard Of" that I've actually never heard of.
AWSOME GAME!
Same here, still have it!
Right?
Its indeed a hidden gem, a very touching storyline with alot of side quest and a heartwarming music. Glad you actually make a video about this masterpiece.
Truly a masterpiece

I listen to the OST from time to time.

Yes! That's what I just commented. That hidden area was key for training when you were super powerful.
I loved this game so much, I legitimately think it could get a remake and be loved by new fans if done right and got a good update to things and added content. It was just so rad and no one played it.

Oh thank gods, I thought I was going crazy when I could swear he started increasing number of strikes.
The soundtrack in this game is still the best ever....cave of fear...picard...say no more
The music was pretty awesome!
Yes!!!
San Clarita was my favorite
*San Claria
Cheers from Malaysia. This game was my childhood too. This was my Final Fantasy.

played this as a teen in the mid 90s, and this truly is a hidden gem.
This was probably my favorite JRPG next to Legend of the Dragoon.
My god this was is soooo good, have you played Valkyrie Profile? ps1
My dad bought me this game when I was younger, I remember picking it out from the video game aisle at Toys R Us. i named baby: Mew and always tried to get him to transform into ibkee. thanks for covering this I just discovered this channel.

emcee is a friggin legend :D
Imagine if this game got a remake in the modern graphic style of Nintendo games. Would be amazing
Alright alright I'm getting it.

Gonzalo Duarte i was thinking that as well
DUDE! I HAD THIS AS A KID TOO! HOLY CRAP
I played Guardian Crusade long ago. But I didn't finish the game. Oh, I wish they make Guardian Crusade Remastered HD.
Omg I rented this from blockbuster when I was 5 or 6 and thought it was a fever dream of a game and have been looking for it ever since ❤
This game is one of the best rpg I played when I was still a child. I was a little annoyed when no one knows this game when I was still a child. It game is still a really good game until now.

No problem! Happy to help~ Hope you enjoyed the vid. :D
remember watching my older brother playing this when I was like 4 or 5. OST brings me back the best memories.
Remember renting and liking it way back in the day. The battle theme definitely makes one think a delivery guy is gonna show up and ask if anyone ordered a pizza with extra sausage.

Man, the nostalgia trip. I used to switch between this game and DBZ Final Bout.
I even remenber to start playing Tibia after finishing the game and naming my charater DarkKalkanor because that knight you meet during the game had just the best name ever
Also... my version of the game was a pirate one (sorry devs Brazil is a bad country) so I had no acess to the manual, as such baby never did much more than bite and ocasionaly (very ocasionaly) heal me. Still I adore that little guy
I love this game so much, first played in a RPG 3-in-1 disc when I was a kid.
Now on my quest for an original copy both Japanese and American
I was like one of 2 kids in my grade school who had this game. Blows my mind to see someone finally covering it on RUclips
Just the title of the game and memories of my youth back then brought tears to my eyes.
RUclips recommendation algorithm blessed me with you content. Thx you dude
Grandmas house and blockbuster introduced me to this. So happy to see it again.
This brought back some really good memories from when I was a kid and didn't really know how to play games properly. I played it again maybe ten years ago and got halfway and now I've downloaded it again and got through the first section this evening. Really great to see the overwhelming amount of people commenting profoundly fond memories with this game
I'm getting vibes from this. Like it contains devolved elements of Digimon World 1, Jade Cocoon, Wild Arms, and Golden Sun.
I remember when I was little and there was an add for it in a magazine. Always wanted to play it. Instead I wrote a short story based off the art about what I thought it might have been about. Glad to find out it was actually pretty good.
I still have this game too, and I always love going back to play it. And the OST is pure awesomeness
I got lost there tooo!
Dude your channel is dope and I'm glad the YT algorithms didn't send me complete trash today. These retro vids are sweet.
I found this video because that smooth jazz track from the sex cave has randomly entered my head at least 8 times in the past 20 years since I played this game. I searched on google for “PlayStation RPG with pink creature that can morph” and this is where I landed. Love that you highlighted that track, catchy as shit!
The amount of hours I sunk in this game as a kid. We even burned a copy cuz ours was scratched and used the start up swap to get it to work.
So cool to find this. I remember my mum getting me this game when she also got me 'Speed Freaks' which was the one I actually wanted but I'd never heard of it at the time but this was what got me into rpg's, in fact it inspired me to play and complete it again recently
My best friend and I played this game many years ago. AMAZING GAME for a non main-stream game.
I very, very much enjoyed this video. Made me immediately put this game on my "gotta get sooner than later" list, so thanks for that. You just got yourself a new subscriber who is MORE than eager to see all the other content you have *thumbs up*
Aw, thanks dude! Appreciate that~
Thank you for bringing me my childhood memories, really love this game, and im gonna play it again soon!
One must!
I played this game as a kid once and Ive forgotten the name and I you posted this, and I finally found it, thank you so much!
I was obsessed with this game as a kid, even wrote short stories about me and my pink buddy, finally remembered what it was called and ended up here
4k views.
Man. This was honestly my first ever RPG and is what introduced me to the genre. Still have the game and case and i dont ever want to get rid of it. I love this game so much and am so happy to see someone make a video on it. Awesome stuff man.
You know, I always thought I wanted my backlog to get smaller, but now I realize I should accept entropy and just let it get bigger. Thanks Emcee!
I've had the dungeon music from this game stuck in my head for 21 years.
Thank you dude! Hope you find your copy, it's a wild ride.
I literaly never heard of this thing. Thank you.
This game has been the one game that when I talk about ‘favorite games’ people just look at me blankly, but it really stuck with me. I don’t know if I could look at a PlayStation without being taken back to this gem.
This is one of my favourite childhood games
Thank you for the video
Oh man this brings me back I absolutely loved this game
I had to go on reddit to remember what the name of this game was when I had thought about it a couple years ago at random. I played it a ton as a kid, too. For some reason, the main thing I remembered about it was the wind-up Jupiter toy being really strong.
Also, that Hollywood Video logo on the disc brings back memories.
Fantastic work, looking forward to the next project!
OMG I loved this game! The magic as toys were my favorite part.
Şovalye Knightkın Maceraları
I LOVED this game as a kid...when he got that powerup near the end....wowzers!
And I must say, there were quite frightening designs for monsters. Like the newest Dragon Quest's are just adorable plushies in comparison
I picked this up at a car boot a few years ago and didn't do much than get to the title screen. Honestly after this I may try it again. Thanks!
If I recall there was a toy that had a increased attack that went off your foot steps accumulated.
A meme about this game: a big Turkish gaming youtuber made a video about playing this game when he was a kid and it took him 3 years to finish it
This game was a huge part of my childhood.
So glad to see someone speak of GC. One of the games I’ve hoped to get a remake for a long while.
I used to rent this game at Hollywood Video when I was 9. I absolutely adored it and had completely forgotten about it until now.
I played this game as a kid, and in order to find the name of it again I had to look through a list of every single RPG on the PSX. That's how you know a game is obscure.
Good to see someone else with strong feelings towards it still.
this game was punishing hard as a kid. 25 years later i downloaded an emulator and finished it. great game. great story!!!
