  • Here is the electrifying moment I released a fossil from a Jurassic rock. This is done in much the same way as Mary Anning would have, many moons ago. Follow us on a fossil walk on the day Mary Anning’s statue is arriving at Lyme Regis. Evie Swire had asked her mum(Anya), after doing some fossil hunting, about why at that time 4 years ago, there was no statue for Mary Anning. Anya and Evie worked hard with their project Mary Anning Rocks, along with the team and the "Anning Army " of supporters. I am proud to be a Trustee of Mary Anning Rocks! So see the film of Mary Anning’s statue arriving in the town of Lyme Regis. This video runs right on to the point of the statue`s unveiling- on the 21st May 2022. The statue of Mary Anning is unveiled by Professor Alice Roberts. You can see young Evie to the right of the Mary Anning statue in my film, being beckoned to come forward by Professor Alice Roberts. Evie seemed a little shy of the cameras on the big day. Rightly so, as Evie has been in countless meetings and has been in many many photos all to do with Mary Anning Rocks . She has coped so well being in the spotlight for so long , well done Evie ! Remember to stay away from the dangerous cliffs when looking for fossils. The cliffs are dangerous and liable to fall suddenly and without warning! See our guided fossil walks along Jurassic Coast. You need safety glasses and sturdy gloves for hammering the right little rocks-that split like slate. You must see the current Lyme Regis tide tables to go out fossil collecting at low tide. www.lymeregisfo... We get booked up far in advance for these fossilwalks#maryanning#fossilhunter#Mary Anning

    I’m so glad Mary Anning is finally being recognised for her amazing contribution to palaeontology, I saw her statue on Saturday and it’s really beautiful. I love how it overlooks where she would have walked. I think she would be so very proud, as she should be💖❤️

    What a wonderful video. That’s a very nice tribute. I’ll bet she wasn’t expecting folks would build a memorial statue of her this many years later. Beautifully done. Thanks for sharing. ❤

    Good to see the preparations for the statue and I am sure Mary would have appreciated the ammonite fossils you found in the early part of the video. Glad to see the weather improved.

      Thanks 🙏 very much for sharing ! I spent 4 years with Anya and Evie working on this project . Getting a statue for Mary Anning in Lyme Regis . I learnt such a lot from them, on what it takes to be strong, they faced so many set backs at Mary Anning Rocks! I am very glad you enjoyed this particular video and thanks for sharing .

    It’s believed that she died of breast cancer 🥺

    • @LymeRegisFossils
      @LymeRegisFossils  2 года назад

      She was taking laudanum to quell the pain of breast cancer. The opium in it did for her , such a sad ending for a strong 💪 lady
