this is so heart breaking.. especially when I finally understood what the lyrics meant. OMG I got goosebumps.. Misha's my favorite reyvateil, and her chronicle key is awesome
It is pretty amazing how much world-building went into those games. To the point that every song is meaningful and tells a story about that world and it's characters.
It's even more impressive than that, actually. Extract songs being nothing but "fixed feelings", each character's _interpretation_ of them gives information about how they perceive the world and how they relate to the feelings in question. This is especially apparent in the two versions of the Purger (especially with Aurica's and the parallels made between the "Diasee" that is Mule, and Aurica herself), but even though we do not know of any other version of Chronicle Key, each of them was just as unique. The key feeling of Chronicle Key is compassion ; that of Lune, who wished for Mule to be at peace. But in Misha's eyes, this compassion is manifested in another light ; why, she wonders, does power fall on those who do not desire it - as it befell her to sing with no end, when all she wanted was to be free ? And so, without it even being a conscious process, these are the lyrics that are formed as she interprets the feelings of the song. I can only agree with you. Ar Tonelico's world building is nothing short of spectacular.
@@blara2401 There is a doujin/fanwork singer group called Stellatram that wove quite a lyrically and melodically phenomenal rendition of Lune's (aka, the original) Chronicle Key, with her poignant and sacrificial empathy for Mule embodied perfectly. I always listen to that and Misha's Chronicle Key back-to-back and enjoy the nuances in difference and conflicting feelings that result.

I miss PS2 era. Many game I miss playing because my PS2 got broke and I had to further my study at that time. I want to play artonelico again. I only got to play 1 time only.
Ar tonelico was one of the reasons I decided to pursue linguistics...that and some history clases. I fell in love with such a beautifully rich and well constructed language whose roots lie in such a condensed yet contextually adaptable framework, this is especially true with AR2's New Testament of Pastalie script which, while harsher on the ears than Standard Note, offers much more in terms of expressive flexibility to play and build from. Admittedly, Standard Note just sounds better when sung due to the language base it's drawn from, and the local japanese talent gives it a unique ethnic flair that leaves something both eerily close to home yet not. Its true brilliance, whichever script you prefer, lies in the basic syntax and grammar which makes the language viable as it CAN be translated, appended, and expanded on just as with any other "real" language. The trick is momentum of use and proliferation. Abstract concepts only gain a state of conceptual objectivity if and when they become a part of the larger surrounding sociocultural framework and transcends it by becoming embedded with a near subconscious perceptual schema...in short, when something becomes less an "idea" and more a state of "don't think, feel". That's how best I can articulate the concept anyway...
You sound like my english teacher. I'm doing english language for year 12, which focuses on linguistics and the analysis of language. Its great of course but i hate using all the metalanguage because then my sentences barely make sense and sound like jargon riddled gibberish therefore i don't use it resulting in not so great test scores, haha
So technically this is Misha's song, because when someone downloads a Hymn Crystal, they get their own song out of it, as different people interpret it differently.
At 1:27, the last phrase sung in a octave, felt so heavy. It's almost like after all the conflict, Mir was abruptly put to deep coma. It's so powerful and matches the lyrics so well that it almost brought me to tears.
This is the section at which the song begins when it is heard for the first time during Aurica's route (right as the Linker took effect and Mule successfully entered Aurica's mind with nothing left to stop her). So in effect, this is exactly what happens in-game.
Its 2021 now, i still remember the shock i felt when i learned that misha has to sang this her entire life. When lyner promised to save her even when she didnt replied she heard him, its also when i dedicated to choose her path no matter what 😂😂
The power to end any dispute. The power to spread peace and destroy hate. The power to unify the living regardless of their past. For the sake of this power, there is a single sacrifice. Exec_Chronicle=Key/., the hymn that is the most human, the hymn that anyone can relate to and come to understand.
This Hymn has the power that can soothe all those who are in pain... But to keep peace, a maiden must sacrifice herself. But she does this in order for the people to live on...
@@pupprinateacup660 For me this one was almost painfully sad. On the one hand you have someone who must sacrifice themselves and it isn't even necessarily willingly (it has been a while since I played the game, but if I recall it was pretty much a "you're born into it" position.) On the other hand, you have them doing this to keep Mir from awakening again, which is also cruel in itself as all Mir truly ever needed was to just not be treated so horribly and used by people.
@@xaldreca3403 I couldn't give you an exact answer there. Mir was undoubtedly quite powerful, but in that state surely not so much. All I can say is that despite all the deaths that happened before they couldn't bring themselves to kill her. It might also be partially in recognition of the guilt for having done all that to her in the first place.
URRRRRRGH BEAUTIFUL VOICE FROM AN EQUALLY BEAUTIFUL REYVATEIL!!! ...seriously, Misha's character design is pretty good. Her mini kimono looking outfit is funky.

@@azzamilhamzaidan1502 -and I feel kind of bad for actually liking this song enough that I searched for it and probably listened to it at least 20 times in a row not long after finishing the game.
***** Well in contest it's cheerful after all, or it's what it's supposed to be for Mir: rest in the tower for the sake of humans and reyvateils peace (at least it's Shurelia's opinion)
+stef96ify Which is not the case. The song was constructed from the feelings of pity and sadness the first Star Singer had, and for Shurelia it was the last resort they had for Mir to not destroy Sol Ciel. Additionally, the lyrics and the story they contain (a girl cursed with a great power that ends up losing her beloved due to a mad king that ultimately also kills her) don't reflect any sort of happiness.
***** Well you've got a point. In fact I felt really sorry for Mir when in the middle of the story I learned the truth about her past, so Chronicle Key wasn't really of any help to tranquilize her...
+stef96ify The way I see it is that she is singing "a lullaby devoted to you". Parts of it feels soothing and calming like a lullaby, while the rest is full of sorrow and struggles. Maybe you felt the same. :)
Actually, Tsuboy has collaborated quite a bit with all of the main singers from the series, as he was in charge of playing the violin in several of their songs.
wow its been so long and this song is still good. What do i find weird is the game portrays she would be singing forever but eventually she will be retired after 20 or 30 years before another clone is made and she also has like 150 year lifespan so nothing to cry about to much.
Indeed. Her Cosmosphere also shows she's acting like a drama queen so Lyner pities her, so she's exaggerating the situation. Sure, 30 years singing nonstop sucks, but it's not her whole life as she says.
There is another possibility that is lore-unfriendly but rather likely. Gust could have just retconned this. Likely, originally they meant star singers to sing for their entire life, but later it was found self-inconsistent. If star singer were to sing until death and only then new star singer is to take her place, then there could be a gap between them because even for betas it is not easy to precisely predict lifespan, and if gap is allowed, then Misha's absence is not a big deal, it would be okay to act as if she have died and prepare a replacement early. So, Gust had to come up with the idea of 20-30 years of singing to explain both why there is no replacement yet (as it is to early for Misha to retire) and why it is not okay to just allow the gap and prepare a replacement. Also, even considering 20-30 years of duty, it is too long for Lyner, even if alive he would no longer be young at that time. However, Misha's motivation had to be explained in a different way in this case, so I tend to believe when cosmosphere was written, Gust considered singing Chronicke Key to be life-long duty.
@@pavelkolmakov8278 Except that it's easy to predict lifespans for Betas because they are designed to live for exactly 150 years, no ifs or buts to it. The only exception is if the Beta is physically annihilated or if their telomere suffers degradation due to extreme overexertion due to stuff like EXEC_FLIP-type songs, none of which exist in AT1, and Chronicle Key's spectrum and energy demands are among the lowest in the table for existing Hymmnos Extracts, so a Star Singer wouldn't be overexerting herself in any way singing it. There's also the problem that the same contradiction between Misha's motivations and what the lore actually states is still present in the Flash Cosmosphere, and that was written after it was revealed that Star Singers only have to sing for 30 years. I'll also add one more thing: if Star Singers actually sang themselves to death like Misha says, there would be no Betas in Platina to teach her the duties she has to uphold, and it has been stated that Misha actually had previous Star Singers to teach her.
@@aquagondrag The question is whether all these lore even existed when AT1 plot was in development. I have a strong feeling it was not and instead lore was gradually expanded and deepened game-to-game not only for players/readers but for the authors themselves. This is quite okay if this is what happened, but small contradictions do appear. In the flash cosmosphere Gust likely had to follow the original way to avoid bringing even more inconsistency. As a potential teacher (if a teacher is even needed) Platina always has Shurelia. One more reason I believe most part of this lore on betas and reivateils in general was not in place when plot of AT1 was in development is that Shurelia is not even surprised if Aurica sings EXEC_PAJA, nor does she warns Lyner of possible complications if we assume she knew already and, thus, not surprised. Of all the people in the first tower she must know best that it is something exceptional for 3rd generation reivateil to do it. In AT2 even Shun immediately recognizes Jakuri as "not a common 3rd generation" when she is revealed to be able to get Despedia; being admin, Shurelia must know these limitations even better. Anyway, my impression is that all these deep lore simply did not exist when AT1 was developed, thus the controversies. I might or might not be right about it (or might be partially right).
I've fall in love with Hymmnos since I listened this song… I'm also studying it. It is really beautiful but sometimes I cannot tell the difference betweem English and Hymmnos because some words of the are similar such as 'beautiful' and 'bautiful','day' and 'dyya'…the most interesting is'was'!Sometimes I make mistakes when I'm having an exam because of'was'!How sad it is:(

2024, Ar tonelico love 💚
best song ever created for video games T^T
thanks for giving it the sub
Many of the singers actually helped to create the Hymmnos language, so they really went all out to create these songs.
Thank you! My favorite song from Ar Tonelico as well. This is great!
I love this game, too bad it's STILL like $60 in 2024. I'd love to play it again.
Never played the games but they probably have my favorite soundtracks of all time
Sounds gay
Misha just needs a hug.T_T
Still listening, 2022
I've fall in love with Hymmnos since I listened this song… I'm also studying it. It is really beautiful but sometimes I cannot tell the difference betweem English and Hymmnos because some words of the are similar such as 'beautiful' and 'bautiful','day' and 'dyya'…the most interesting is'was'!Sometimes I make mistakes when I'm having an exam because of'was'!How sad it is:(
Well, Hymmnos was based on a couple European/World languages, no?
0:50-128 The most beautiful thing i ever heard T_T
Please refrain from any arguments in the comment section, it would be greatly appreciated.
