I play Florence in my competition show... this kinda makes me cringe. No emotion. No active listening to each other. Profile. NO PROPER EMPTION. Awkward silence. Rehearse. REHEARSE!
I'm playing Vera next month at our local community theater. I'm not impressed with this portrayal either. I drive a lot for work so I've been listening to this for memorization because they do get almost every word. Neil Simon can be insanely dry, like this. You have to play with it to make it funny. We did Rumors last spring and had a blast.
We are doing this in my theater class and we have one week to memorize and I got the scene when they chase Florence ( after the call ) around the house and I am Renee
Me too! We only have 4 people so I have to play Vera, Renee, and Sylvie, but I still have the least lines.... Next week are finals and we each have to do monologue.... Please tell me to break a leg.... I need it.... MY ENTIRE GROUP NEEDS IT!
Actors don't know their lines, pacing is way too slow, feels under-rehearsed and the actors/directors never vary their performances...always at the same level. Neil Simon deserves better.
I'm doing a scene from the Odd Couple too. We only have 4 people... I'm playing 3 people, but I somehow have the least amount of lines.... Too past you: Fracture a femur!
@@roseydays180 Yes, there is a correct way to do it: think about the lines you're saying, don't everything the same way, don't play to the audience, deliver the lines believably. You can tell from the audience reaction they didn't generate a fraction of the laughs that were possible.
Why did they deviate from the script ie poker, lines etc.. just didn't generate the laughs..It was much funnier with the neurotic cleaning and cooking Oscar ..man..Great idea don't think it quite works...
I played the Spanish suave, Manolo when I was 16! I loved it. Was the last production I was ever in. Junior in High School

I know right. I was looking for a reference, found this, and realized my group containing of intermediate drama 10th graders is better than this.

I'm performing this on November 17-18 and I love watching this and rehearsing my lines. I try to relate like this version of Olive tbh...
I'm playing this in November 2022! Thanks for showing how it's done! Good job ladies and gentlemen
I had so much fun being in a production of this in 2010. I played Jesus and had the time of my life. Easily one of my favorite shows I have ever done.
I just auditioned yesterday for either Florence or Olive, I think it went really well! I’m a junior in high school
Love it 💕

Sylvie and Renee are played by some cute-looking ladies in this production!
