- Just south of Melbourne’s CBD in Australia lies House of Bronzed Steel and Stone, where an architect designs a dream house. Crafted by Megowan Architectural and Anderson Construction, House of Bronzed Steel and Stone sits stoically. Primarily made from steel and natural limestone, the structure is both modest and intimate yet open and flowing. Working towards the brief, the architect designs a dream house that hones the client’s needs. Natural light, a sophisticated palette and privacy were key focal points in the home’s construction.
The house tour begins on the streetscape where a steel gate filters occupants from the public domain into the private space - passing through the landscape forecourt and the full-height, dramatic, bronze front door. The architect designs a dream house that evokes tranquillity, immediately felt throughout the interior design palette and materials used. A set of large steel doors fully reveal an open kitchen, living and dining area. A seamless indoor-outdoor living space is achieved as the architect designs a dream house with large bronze steel sliding doors that fully retract, allowing the space to extend out. Outdoors, Jack Merlo expertly uses landscape architecture as a privacy device, acting as a key element in turning the home into an urban oasis.
The architect designs a dream house that directs light to animate surfaces and spaces. Light scoop devices are integrated into the roof structure, bringing natural light from the north to the deeper private spaces of the home. Views of the swimming pool allow light bouncing off the water to dance through living areas and an east-facing glass splashback allows light to dapple through bamboo, animating the kitchen space.

the glass splashback with the bamboo backdrop- Gorgeous.
Glass splash backs should be banned by law. The cleaning is a nightmare
@@DavidRamseyIII how do you know?
@@jl9678 I have the exact same thing. Looks pretty right up until you ever cook. House gets a cleaner through twice a week and it still looks horrid
It really is!
@@DavidRamseyIII I wonder if putting a clear plastic film over it would be beneficial?
The home, the interiors, the space, the color.....LOVE IT! 🥰💖
Really love the space of this home! Huge thank you to you Local Project 🤟😎
Big thanks to the Local Project and their talented team for the great collaboration. It was a lot of fun to be a part of and it's wonderful to see this 5 year long journey captured in such a magnificent way.
Even the doggo fits the warm grey aesthetic 😄
That’s a beautiful home with beautiful colour harmonies. Every fabric texture, tone and shape has been carefully considered and architecturally exists in sympathy with surrounding buildings
It’s rare you see so much grey in a home without it feeling dull. Somehow all the shades of grey still feel lively and fitting within both the indoor and outdoor space. I think this is a home that will age well given the architectural and design features. Thoughtful use of concrete, marble (I think), and steel - all bringing that grey into the home but with a textural feel. This is a home you’ll want to “touch.”
I think on a deary South Yarra grey day it might still appear very dull. Definitely want as much green around the boundary as you can get.
These are so thought out & well executed to the last detail. It’s calming just to see them, which is the ultimate feeling you wanna get from a home. I think that’s why I’m so addicted to these videos.
Whoa beautiful 🤩. UK 🏴
LOVE that kitchen design - that huge window and the colors and contrasts.
INCREDIBLE! Well done to all involved. You should be proud!
SO great to see the builder's involvement too. Stunning project and a great example of collaboration!
Beautiful. That open design. The choice of materials. The Local Project always features gems.
this is so much batter than those Hollywood hills mega mansions
Not gonna lie, his North American accent gave me a shock. He's really got the hang of Australian design, how we want our houses to function, how we want them to fit in when they're located in a heritage area like South Yarra. Despite his accent, he's clearly an Aussie like us now ;)
This is a piece of art. Love it! Great design and vibe.
Loved the sliding glass doors in the living room and the extension of the tile which created this seamless space between the indoor and outdoors. Such a beautiful space.
Love the continuation of the floor to the backyard. Seamless.
The dog is the best feature 🤭
Beautiful Job! I admire the synthesis of materials and the elegance of its balance using different textures . Congratulations
Oh look! Even the doggie is color coordinated!
it's cute how the dog keeps following around the camera😍
Good style has no limits.
I like how it looks like an instagram post, a model home; like no one lives there. So awesome
UK:Wonderful. 😊
My brother and family live in Yarraville, so I'll send this vlog to them.
This is perfect for visualisations
Lovely. Cute dog too!
Beautiful!!!
Beautiful house!
exquisite
the backroom, gorgeous
I really like watching house tour videos...
I hope I will have my own house one day 🥺
Ameen
Gorgeous but it's clear that by "supportive and collaborative clients" there was actually abundance of money to fund a project that thrived on unusual materials.
This is my favorite RUclips channel
Amazing design
Really lovely job guys. I wish I had seen a bit more of the place…bathrooms etc.
Love this!
Cool and clinical.
SUPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE IT!!!!!!! OUR FAMILY FUTURE'S HOME
Great design Christopher
Thanks Bill! Well spotted.
Lovely house and high standard finish throughout and I love how they got light into such a long and narrow site.
The only criticism I have is the bland lack of colour throughout. Way too muted and dare I say boring for my taste.
It could have been livened up with some colourful artwork or the use of some patterned colourful cushions or rugs which are easy to change.
That dog is gorgeous and totally complements the house. 🐶
Wow
stunning glass backsplash. But what do you do when a section gets cracked?
Bravo
yes open the wall in Australia 🦗🦗🪰🪰🦟🦟🕷️🕷️🕷️🕸️🕸️
Love this channel, always stunning house design. As always, I really want to know the budget to build similar hose.
Es elegante
Beautiful house but enjoy cleaning the window behind the stove 😅
wow
♥️‼️💯‼️
😍😍😍
Beautiful but you cannot open the doors like that in melbourne the mozzies and flys will kill you and a pool is a waste of money in melbourne. Its warm 5 days a year. What a house.
the pool is in a narrow alleyway and essentially splashes right up to the dining room table.
Is that bamboo the weed variety? Looks like it would grow out of control and access will make it a nightmare to manage? Definitely pay a gardener to maintain that! But otherwise I love the window around that area. Kitchen cooking areas are really hard to bring good light into sometimes.
Can anyone comment about the lighting in the house? I notice with a lot of new houses, the lighting is in a grid formation however not here, and I love how the ceiling isn't covered with downlights!
😊
Can Someone guess what the RAL Color of this bronze steel ?. Thanks
💪🏿
Планировка удачная
Thanks to Google Maps, the address of this property is 12 Fawkner St, South Yarra. Victoria. Was wondering how they got around the heritage overlay, but looks like they bought a real dump (although some brutalist lovers might balk at that description) and were able to transform into basically whatever they wanted without keeping any existing facade. Good for them. Must be a 4-5 million dollar property now.
What is the land size?
How much?
What’s the ballpark for a remodel such as this? A million dollars? Many millions?
South Yarra has a median price of 2m but the size of this land could be pushing towards 3m. Build cost could be anywhere between 1 - 2m. Rough estimates on my behalf of course
Melbourne's CBD - Melbourne's THC
Where is this? South of ???

@@Alby911 Thank you!
Do you lose your videographer? These past vids just aren't like the others. Still nice though!
Had to go back and check because of your comment, yep the filming/editing crew is no longer making the videos. Good catch.
@@inbareform that HURTS me. they made everything so visually captivating
@@poppyp3459 Yeah the pacing, music selection and storytelling was way better.
Never understand a sink on an island.
I will always make fun of how excessively poetic architects are.
Good buildings speak for themselves.
😢😢😢😢
South Yarra isn’t eclectic lol
And this house is typically too big for the block and bland.
South Yarra is very eclectic in terms of architectural styles and built form, which is what I was referring to in this video about...architecture.
Again with the quick cuts . . . why?
Too fast. Also, dont put people: people only make a distraction to viewing the house.
The whole point of these videos is to also briefly explain processes; challenges etc
Too much stone. Everything looks too hard and cold. It doesn't look comfy or warm in anyway.
Nice house horrible Australian accent...impossible to understand you guys
American accent for me 😉…I had no problem understanding Sarah.
Wonderful house but
made by stencil so it's without soul.
Still doing all grey in 2022 yikes
Those shiny white walls looks like plastic
are you the color police?
Venetian plaster it ain’t
Well, it's the owners choice. Any opinion outside those walls are largely irrelevant
@@xoxoops Alternatively one could engage in thoughtful response as to what might improve this home; as opposed to just saying 'yikes'... or 'crap'.
looks like Westfield shopping centre, nothing good just over priced
I usually spoonfeed myself these videos, but this house really didnt captivate me. So lifeless, with the title, I expected way more greenery and with the intro, I expected way more visible utilization of the materials. Instead, everything is supremely clinical, dull and lacks any quality that would set it apart. The kichen backdrop was quite creative, but other than that, it lacked that one special thing that most interiors on this channel have.
