@@emanuelrodriguez9044 YES. YES. YES. YES. YES. I rewatched it last year and I was like "How was this so much better than I remember?" All the way until the end
kinda crazy that marvel television literally started from Wandavision, which is the most similar to Agatha All Along in format, but then strayed away into "6 episode movie" for 3 years
As an Ashkenazi Jew, I care a lot less about joe Locke not being Jewish and care a lot more about the fact that they got the bar mitzvah scene so right. I’ve been to bar mitzvahs like that. I’ve sung the prayer he sings. It was wonderful and all I really need
I saw a comment somewhere that William was carrying the Torah on the wrong shoulder and it's a very bad thing. How big of a deal is it carrying it on the left shoulder?
@@tuankietle2845 the Lopez duo who wrote Frozen and Witches road also wrote all the TV era theme songs from Wandavision - including the Munsters inspired Agatha Theme Song
WandaVision and Agatha All Along are the Infinity War and Endgame of MCU TV shows; they're both fantastic, but different enough that I can't decide which is the best. It's amazing what Schaeffer accomplished with the smallest MCU budget per episode, and excited to see what she can do with a full feature.
@@thz-1827 I really don't want to dislike that show but those perfect final episodes are what keeping Loki on one of the best Marvel TV Show. But The Build-up is really tiresome, sometimes
Yeah, Loki blew me away too, but I love both Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson so I would have watched a whole season of them just talking in an elevator. I also rank Hawkeye higher than most because I loved the Matt Fraction comic book run they drew from, Kate Bishop is one of my favourite Marvel characters, and I think Hailee Steinfeld nailed the role and somehow has chemistry with everyone. And Civil War is possibly my favourite MCU film in total - again, so hard to choose, but it's certainly in the conversation for #1.
This was by far the biggest surprise of the year from Marvel for me. I went into this with low expectations, only for the show to take said expectations and blow them away. After the finale, I binged all the episodes from beginning to end, and I can confidently say it is now one of my top 3 favorite Marvel Disney+ shows. Bravo, Marvel Studios, 2024 has been a real comeback for you.
Thank you for your point at the end!! The MCU started with an (relatively) unknown character, Iron Man. So, the entire criticism of "Who asked for this" is so ridiculous. The last three episodes were amazing and I cannot wait to see what they do with Billy, Jen and Agatha.
@@annoelnicolaas4932 same with Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and Black Panther. The “Who asked for this” criticism is basically saying “give us more of the same.” Marvel needs to branch out to more weird and obscure stories if they want to survive. Hoping for a Midnight Suns movie
I think people are also shortsighted because they can't see how large the MCU is nowadays. The Marvel comics universe is huge, with different comics for pretty much every audience out there. Almost any random hero or villain has had their own comic book at some point. But some people still look at the MCU and think every movie/show needs to be made for the same audience as Iron Man. And then they'll also complain about how stale the MCU is, go figure...
About Billy Maximoff in William Kaplan's body, I immediately thought of the "Ship of Theseus" speach Vision gave in Wandavision. The soul of one and the body at another means that he both is and is not William/Billy, so he is both boys. That way they keep some identity and memories from both but he also gets to affirm who he is in the future
@@WholeShebangYT something to note is that he doesn't have either William or Billy memories, having only fragments. And he did raise the question of whether he's Billy or William during the divination trial but was left hanging, I think he will explore this part of him in the future
@@WholeShebangYT There's a decent chance Wiccan hears it from Vision himself. Wouldn't it be nice for him to get some meaningful wisdom from his magic robot dad?
@@tuankietle2845 I would argue given the scene in the Greenwitch trial it is heavily implied he has memories from his time in Westview at least some fragments. There is no indication however that he remembers anything from William kaplans life and I honestly prefer that. It's the darker route but I firmly believe that William Kaplan is very dead. I do agree that he is both and still the son of the kaplans even if the two souls didn't merged since he has still lived with them for 3 years and given he is technically only three years old that's pretty much his whole life. He can have both identities without there being the soul merging scenerio which to me cheapens the impact and is honestly quite convenient. It also I feel goes against the theme of death and it's finality and the unfairness of it all that is at the center of this show and if we ignore comic book lore for a moment is the better story for this version imo.
For me it’s now Agatha, WandaVision, then Loki season 2. I loved them all, but Agatha had the most to battle in order to be great. Everyone already loved the character Loki and wanted the show. WandaVision had two Avengers.
This show was amazing and I was so happy to see Jen alive and all powered up at the end. The idea of Sasheer being a part of the MCU in a bigger role (hopefully bring Nicole in somehow) is so exciting.
The theme of this show is profound: how we deal with trauma and how not dealing with it passes it along. Billy acknowledges the harm he has done in response to his trauma. He honors those who he (inadvertently) took down. Unlike Wanda and Agatha, he tries to atone and to not lose hope and get caught in guilt and pain. Agatha is the only one who insists on passing on her trauma. Deep message.
Gotta say, the show was way more funny than I expected too. Minor Spoiler: My vote for best throwaway line/joke is Teens "Come on, I don't want to go back in the closet!"
I fell like Wiccan is the only series that would make sense for their description of that greenlit show. So excited about that. Especially since Agatha is gonna be his mentor. And we’ll finally get to see who’s playing Tommy.
Considering they are laying the groundwork for Tommy’s new home to be a bad place with no one to love him and bullying, which is the opposite of Billy, I wonder if Agatha will be able to connect to him considering her backstory with her mom and original coven. Her trauma was so intense and she had no one in her life to show her any alternative, so she was convinced that she had to kill witches or else they would kill her.
I agree with you 98%. To me it is the best MCU show (though I am rewatching WandaVision to make sure). Also, something you didn't explicitly point out, but alluded to, rewatching AAA is so fun and rewarding. For those who were not spoiled with any of the reveals, you can really go back and see all breadcrumbs (in lines of dialogue, or in performances, or in the set) scattered throughout.
I watched The Nando Cut’s video about this show and then got curious, as I haven’t kept up with the MCU much recently. I watched the whole show yesterday because I was so intrigued by the video and loved it. I’m glad great projects can come out of nowhere like this.
@@cipherfresh and that's on being one of the lowest budget Marvel project-wise. In a way it pushed them to be more creative with little resources they have had. 😅
Rewatching this show has me kicking myself for missing all the clues, everything agatha does, says, every gesture she makes all point to the truth about the road, and every scene she has with billy carry a completely diffrent meaning.
Well his point is valid, but I agree, I do think his writing in some parts was almost crossing the line to "teenager cringe" though, but thankfully it wasn't throughout the whole series
@@Santusknowsyourlocation Writing has little to do with the actor. And, to be fair, teenagers are often cringe and overly dramatic so it was probably portrayed accurately.
@@Santusknowsyourlocation if it's about the writing, then that's not Joe's fault at all. Besides, teenager IS cringe & dramatic. So that's actually accurate.
Great video! What i'm looking forward for the future is what the dynamic between agatha, billy, and wanda is going to be. Having your son you've looked for throughout the entire multiverse be with your enemy is crazy. Also him having said enemy as a mentor while not remembering much about his other mother is very interesting
On the not of the casting: Gay, Jewish AND Romani. That last part is especially important. That said, if it had to be only one, I’m glad it was an openly gay actor. Why? Because an actor shouldn’t forcefully outed. I don’t want what happened to Kit Connor to happen to another actor, and especially NOT one of colour.
I can’t believe I left that part out but yes absolutely Romani! MCU has a bad rep with casting them and that needs to be changed But yeah I’m very glad they found an openly gay actor because god is the industry cruel to people who aren’t ready to label themselves
@ thank you! whenever I bring up the bad romani representation in the mcu, people say “name one romani actor” and I’m like my point is that I can’t!! And as a queer person, I absolutely hate when hollywood thinks gay people have to play gay roles and straight people play straight roles, but unfortunately this false notion that real people can queerbait leads to so much harm. lovely to see you be a voice of reason on this hellsite
Oh my god that Romani argument always pissed me off. This is a billion dollar company with endless resources, they can find someone!! The problem is we can’t name people because of how under represented they are. It’s so frustrating and this Doom situation is bleak for me bc of it
There are male Romani actors, but I couldn't find any female ones listed anywhere. As for casting of Joe Locke calling it miscasting is insane. He is a fantastic actor and if you can name an openly gay Jewish actor of his age and talent, I will admit my mistake. However I am 99.99% sure that you can't. Yes, while Jews are underrepresented, gays are even more so. I am very tired of straight people being cast in gay roles for the award bait. There are a lot more Jewish actors than openly gay actors in Hollywood.
I find all your analysis to be really entertaining! You do a great job balancing explaining what happened throughout the show while also giving us your own thoughts/critiques. Plus you were able to capture my own thoughts about the show really well! Love your channel!
LOVED your breakdown! Please keep ‘em coming! First video of yours that i just watched!!! Your love for the material , your tone and cadence are refreshing!!! Many many thanks
Is on par with Loki for MCU shows, Incredible really, visuals and story really started kicking up as the episodes progressed Quite concerned with the hate around it
You just have to ignore those people. If superhero movies aren't ripped dudes kicking ass they lose their minds. Most of them won't ever watch the show and will just hate on it online cus they have nothing better do do with their sad lives lol. Everyone who watched it knows how good the show actually is.
@@WholeShebangYT I disagree with it all being about sexism, a few bad apples sure, Most of the MCU female led films and shows have been a disaster tbh, this feels more of reputation thing I really liked Agatha All Along and Ms. Marvel tho, shame She Hulk turned everything into shit
@@ThatGuyGloomy definitely not a reason, comicbook fans aren't watching because of the physique or violence it is for the character they grew up with But action is a huge part of Entertainment, cannot be discounted Winter Soldier was incredible, This seems more of a reputation thing Also on physical side Spiderman isnt huge, neither is Daredevil, Iron Man, Ant Man, Dr Strange, these are just MCU examples
Love your review and totally agree about how amazing it is!! Tho as someone unfamiliar with the comics, I think they made it clear that “Billy” is also William when in episodes 7-9 he repeatedly says that Wanda isn’t his mom and he already has a mom.
I think it's smart of them to have the 2-episode premiere instead of just one because those first two episodes served as a great hook for the audience to enthusiastically come along their journey to the Witches' road. The pilot episode was more of a prologue and the finale episode was definitely an epilogue.
I loved this show. I miss Wanda so much, but I'm glad they seem to have a plan for her return now (and they're not rushing things just to get clicks). And Billy going to look for Tommy first, makes total sense.
I was expecting the show to be fun and campy, and I was surprised that things got more real and introspective in the later episodes. It's a lot like Loki in that way. I like to see more of that in future MCU shows. Now I'm very excited about Vision Quest. I'm hoping it will be a more philosophical Star Trek like show that explores ideas about humanity and identity. And it is quite appropriate that the showrunner worked on Star Trek.
I love your part about jewish gay representation. As someone who is both i have always been disappointed how often the brush over (Moon knight) or erase (Wanda and that one character from captain America) jewish characters. I think Joe Locke did an excellent job on the jewish side and Marvel was very respectful. Im proud of the writers for not caving to antisemitism. (Not to be that person but its Bar not Bat 12:04)
As someone who is also Jewish I was absolutely pissed when I realized Wanda’s treatment in the mcu. They not only made her not Jewish, they also made her openly Christian (there was a cross on a shelf in her room in civil war) and they had her join a damn Nazi organization. I am glad that they are finally doing more with making characters Jewish. Jews are mostly the people who made comics and the representation they put into some of their characters was rarely respected on the big screen, I’m hoping this is a push to more Jewish representation in the MCU.
I'd noticed more than one reviewer saying "bat" instead of "bar," yes. I also encourage you to be that person. :) Moon Knight had that quick acknowledgement that Marc Spector is Jewish, but had quite the variety of religions, including a lot of ancient Egyptian. I'm glad that Billy Kaplan was portrayed as gay and Jewish, as he is in the comics. I was also glad that the writers on this one were much more respectful of gay characters than in many Marvel and/or Disney productions, where it's often a cheap one-line joke.
@@FreddyFazgoo1776 I commented elsewhere that I wished the comics had kept the version of the origin where Wanda and Pietro were Magneto's children. Chris Claremont added a lot to Jewish representation in the comics. We've had glimpses of Kitty Pryde in the X-Men movies. She's a favorite character of mine. Also I wouldn't mind an introduction in Marvel cinema/television of Vance Astrovik, sometimes known as Justice, who has an interesting backstory. Now that the MCU includes mutants, why not?
Also Aubrey said that this is her dream role and what she’s been manifesting to play her whole life!! And also, the writers wanted to depict Rio/Agatha’s love story but said they weren’t given enough time to depict it (they were going to meet after Agatha killed her Salem coven then live in a cabin).
Also a big part of Agatha All Along that made it happen with Billy and Agatha's relationship. I don't think that Billy would ever need Agatha Harkness if he remembered Westview.
My Father clapped at the Lilia episode and he wasn't interested in witches im the first place. So you can say the show wasn't really for him. But he watched it along with us. So...
Agatha All Along was truly surprising considering I wasn’t even going to watch it at first. So glad I did and I hope that Marvel sees the success of it and start using more practical effects instead of relying on CGI
Not only does it save money but it also makes time spent in post production way shorted The fire and The water in The first 2 trials was real and i think that The tower upside down was also done practicaly by flipping The camera and using wires to Pull everyone up and The morgue collapsing was also made practicaly as far as i heard The "rocks" made with soft plastic
I loved this show! The acting, production, and the writing were just spectacular! Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza were born for these roles! Patti LuPone as Lilia too! Those final 3 episodes had me levitating out my seat 😤🔥
Honestly, this didn't have any business being so good. I was actually surprised how good it was. Wasn't even going to watch, but i had some time to kill, and omg it did not dissapoint
I love them too, but for the past 5 years they have been (collectively, but wandavision counts as one) in 4 projects (Agatha, wandavision, multiverse, and endgame) and Kathryn has been in 2 of those, but one of them was recent so for the past 3 years and 10 months Kathryn had one project in the mcu holding it up? I love those 2 actresses but that is nowhere near true.
I think it was easier to type cast Ms. Marvel because they outright said they wanted to put her on screen. Joe Locke said that he had to go through many callbacks until Marvel told him who he'd play. It was definitely harder this time.
Agatha All Along was perfect, period. Not my favorite show. That would be Hawkeye because it was AWESOME, but not perfect. Aubrey Plaza is our dark lord who could carry me away to the afterlife any time, but Hailee Steinfeld is that best friend for life who'd have your back but break it if you cross her. But Hawkeye did have a few wiring issues, nothing as major and too many people love to harp on but they were there. People who see flaws in Agatha All Along are trying to find them instead of seeing anything organically. Perfect cast. Perfect story. Perfect call backs. Perfect Twists. (How often does that one happen?) Perfect ending. And Katherine Hahn, perfect actress. You're right we need more. Let's get that next show. This show blew the internet up, so we will get another show. Can't wait.
Yes! And it's also the first Marvel tv show with PERFECTLY WRITTEN FEMALE CHARACTERS. They have flaws that many people were able to resonate with, and minor characters like Lilia and Alice were well loved and respected( unlike She Hulk and Maya Lopez ( BARF)). So this was the GOAT show after WandaVision imo.
This is the BEST review for this series I've seen so far 🤣 I'm not even gonna try, imma just share this one!!! You got my exact feelings down in words!!
I finished this series not too long ago, and damn was I surprised with how much I enjoyed it. The characters were some of my favourites especially Wiccan, Rio and Alice, acting was really good, the songs were suprisingly amazing, the twists were great, and the witches road itself was awesome! I loved that it was a practical set and just loved it! It's not my favourite marvel show, I feel that still goes to Loki but it's probably somewhere in the top 5
I agree - I wasn’t excited by the show at first, but once I understood what it was doing in totally embracing witch lore and finding a way to seamlessly integrate it into the MCU while totally having its own flavor, vision and amazingly strong thematic richness regarding death (facing one’s own, grieving that of our dearest ones, and the intro of the character of Death herself into the MCU). I agree that those “slow/random-feeling” first two eps are SO much better and make perfect sense once you’ve watched the whole series. Just watching Agatha’s incredible small reactions to the Road throughout the show once you know everything at the end is absolutely fascinating (Kathryn Hahn is an incredible actor and I NEED emmys for this show so much!!). Loved this show and NEED a season 2 bc I only want to see Agatha as a main character, not a side character mentor figure making cameos in other MCU shows.
This show is too good for words. I love how we see Agatha interact with the others and see her motherly instincts even after 270 years. You can see there’s still chemistry between Rio and Agatha. The songs are so good and it’s way to clever and well written and I hope we see Wiccan or Agatha again even if it’s in a different show. It’s pretty funny that they broke the 4th wall before the show even premiered. I love it so much.
I LOVED this show. I was kinda on board with it, then my bf binged it and told me I HAD TO WATCH IT. And it quickly skyrocketed to my favorite MCU property since endgame. I've really felt like they've really had no idea what they were doing after that and besides Deadpool I've completely given up on the movies. With this, Wandavision, and Loki and deadpool one thing is clear: the MCU is being held up by the gays and the witchy folks. I love it. One other thing I really liked is that this is absolutely the gayest thing the MCU, but it is such a good show, with such a power packed cast and phenomenal everything it's not even a selling point of the show. And as a gay man myself, that is pretty Fucking phenomenal. Representation without using it as a marketing tool was a chefs kiss for this incredible show 🤌🏻 Next time a scarlet witch anything comes up, Jack Schafer NEEDS to be in charge. I was thoroughly underwhelmed with how the Scarlet witch was used in the multiverse of madness. Agatha all along gets a 10/10 from me.
Gotta agree, I just finished the show last night and I was very surprised how much I really enjoyed the show because tbh, I was very skeptical in the beginning when I saw the trailer. I'll be honest in saying that I'm not the biggest fan of MCU live action universe, I don't know why but I just always preferred watching Marvel (and DC) properties in animation style as opposed to live action and that's ignoring how a lot of MCU live action movies tended to have the same structure which got really old. Before watching Agatha All Along, I went ahead and watched WandaVision first and I was surprised that I actually liked the first half of the show but then sorta mentally tapped out when the usual Marvel end of the world type shenanigans happened in the later half lol With Agatha All Along, I was quite hooked when watching the first episode since it was neat that they carried on from the end of WandaVision with Agatha's fate and how the curse had taken control of her life for the last 3 years. I've gotta give extra kudos to the cinematic direction because they totally nailed the autumn dreary tone for the show and it made me think of American Horror Story Coven but better (in terms of feeling and atmosphere). But just like Coven, I was afraid that Agatha All Along would commit the same problem that I had with AHS Coven where it had a neat first half only to lose it's footing in the second half. And also with WandaVision which again, had a neat first half but once the usual Marvel shenanigans came in, it detracted the tone abit. That said, I'm pleased to say that Agatha All Along did not fall into that trap and it was enjoyable from start to finish. I was especially impressed and floored with Kathryn Hann's performance because I was afraid that while she was awesome in WandaVision, I felt that her schtick would've gotten old and stale but boy was I wrong, she was amazing here too and I agree ,she did great from going from manipulative and cunning to emotional, just all around perfect but the whole cast was great all around. But yeah, I kinda caught on that "teen" was actually going to turn out to be Billy "Wiccan". I mean 2 episodes in I thought he was gonna be revealed to be Nicholas but when I thought more about it and the "durr he's into witchcraft", I was like "Nope, that's Wiccan" haha (though personally, would prefer they kept the bandana, it compliments the scarf/cape/hood a lot better imo lol). And I love how the story explained through subtle clues about the truth about Billy and the "road" and why it was the way it was, very very clever and that final twist of Agatha's manipulation through the decades, chef's kiss, beautifully shot and directed. I also agree that it was a relief that they didn't give Agatha a redemption, she's an evil woman who did one selfless thing but at her core she's a manipulative, power hungry person and it was nice that the show did not forget that. But finally, the best thing about this show is that I appreciate that it actually follows an older cast of women as opposed to the usual teen and or young adult in the 20s aged women that you typically see. People asked "who wants to see this?" Fans of wicca themed stories? Fans who are into mystery? And people who would like to see a cast of characters that are different from what you typically see (in this case, older women with compelling and/or interesting backgrounds). And heck even the handling of their gay character where they had him be a character and not a talking mouth piece for gay issues which I as a gay man, really appreciated. And seeing how the show was received, I'd say the people who wanted to see it found it and enjoyed it just fine. But yeah, all in all, wonderful show, it 's a shame it had to be only 9 episodes, I would've settled for 10-13 but for what we got, it was an enjoyable ride.
I won’t argue about the Jewish representation bit (though my understanding is that it isn’t a totally black and white issue for all Jewish people), however I’ve seen people call him miscast for other reasons and I think that’s a crazy thing to say about someone who did such a good job and embodied the role this well.
It’s a VERY sensitive subject and I tried to do my best to talk about it respectfully, but the amount of people throwing insults his way and hate on him despite doing his job well is a big disappointment
@@WholeShebangYT I think it’s good that marvel did good on the Jewish representation on the show which matters the most. I don’t think that him not being a Jewish actor is really important because Jewish actors aren’t under representative in media. There’s a lot of Jewish actors in television and Hollywood. Now it being important from them to cast Kamala Khan accurately because of the under representative of middle eastern/muslim/islam culture especially in a positive light makes more sense. No hate the whole video was good keep it up.
i loved the show from day one! i absolutely loved the music too... my spotify receipt for october refelcts that as well with three vesrions of the ballad in my top 10. episode 7 of aaa is probably my favorite episode out of all the mcu shows i've finished so far. i honestly think nothing is gonna top that. i can't wait to see what's next with billy and agatha as they search for tommy, and i can't wait to see jennifer kale appear in future mcu projects. hopefully midnight sons/suns and/or in a doctor strange movie, because is still wanna explore the similarities and differences of sorcery and witchcraft. one aspect of the show that i would like to continue to be true in the future is 'the witches' road'. i honestly got so attached to the concept of it that the reveal at the end made me a little sad that it probably won't be real for other witches in the future. the music really did it for me. going back to jennifer though, i love that she can proudly say that she survived the witches' road and was in a coven with the son of the scarlet witch. i really can't wait to see her use her knowledge on witchcraft and see the full potential of her unbound powers. after everything with aaa, i for sure will be seated for any future jac schaefer mcu project moving forward. she really knows her way in telling character-driven narratives. also so many more questions to answer despite completing a whole arc of a show. as billy and agatha say, when one door closes and another will open.
13:10 i think erasing his memories was the right call. He doesn't have any of William's memories, and has very few of Billy's buried very deep and without context. Which allowed him to start from a blank page and in those 3 years grow up into himself - be the child of the Kaplans, while also seeking out his other family. He doesn't acknowledge Wanda as his mother, because he already has Rebecca as his mom who raised him for 3 years. After the amnesia he _became_ himself as Billy Kaplan. I think that's a much better character writing than having Billy and William's memories mix together since the beginning. It also honours the fact that William is dead p.s. i think it's quite telling they keep calling the original Kaplan child William and never Billy. i think what they were going for is that the comics character of Billy Kaplan in the MCU is the one starting from 13 years old. The child before that is a different character all together who sadly passed. If we continue getting well written Billy, he will start calling himself Billy Kaplan because that's what he views himself as - a son of the Kaplans, but also Billy - Wiccan, the son of Wanda
I was exicted for this show but GENIUNLY DIDNT EXPECT IT TO LOVE THIS SO MUCH??? LIKE GENIUNLY THIS IS SO WELL BIULT AND SO WELL WRITTEN BUT GENIUNLY THIS WAS AMAZING!
For someone who isn't that interested in anything Marvel does... I. ADORED. THIS. SHOW. I've already watched it twice and can't stop singing The Ballad 😂❤ thx for your amazing video!
Joe locke was likely cast in the role even if he wasn’t Jewish because of Heartstopper fame and he is a good actor for the role. I think he was perfect as Billy/Wiccan but that added boost from Heartstopper was likely gonna bring in new fans who probably wouldn’t have watched a marvel show if it weren’t for joe locke.
I've been watching the defenders saga along with the new release of agatha, and i must say that this has been a breath of fresh air after watching the entire multiverse saga. The writing is so well thought out, which makes these shows enjoyable and engaging. I would ask myself, "What would happen if they just used this ability?" and that plot point would always end up being explained
I loved this show and was one of the people who def asked for it from the beginning! I was looking forward to this the most, and I'm extremely happy with how it played out. Top 3 for me! If anything, I have more questions about Agatha. What I want to know more about is Agathas powers. It doesn't seem like they ever specified if it's specific to Agatha or spirit witches all together. We never interact with any other spirit witches, so we can't be certain, but I'm going to assume it's an Agatha thing. It also feels like it's one of if not the main reasons why her mother hates her. In WandaVision, her mother said she learned more than she should have, like dark magic (idk the exact quote), so it seemed like it was an ability she learned. But in AAA, her mother also said she was born evil, so that makes me think of the possibility that she was born with the ability. It's unfortunate that her original coven tried to kill her instead of love and protect her. But it seems her mother had already made up her mind that her power is evil, therefore, she is evil and must die. I think Agatha even pleads that she can be good to her, but it was too late. I feel like this starts the trajectory of her character and the decisions she makes after. It also does seem like she gets a "high" from absorbing others powers, so I feel like one of the reasons she dives deeper into doing it after Nicky dies is to fill the hole that he left. Like, she has no coven cause her first one tried to kill her, so she can't trust anyone. She lost her son, the one she loved the most. And her lover of all people is death, the reason she lost her son. It's like a lot of pain that I think she's trying to cover up with sarcasm and killing. They never brought up the darkhold in the flash back either, so it seemed like she had this ability before she got her hands on the darkhold. Which makes me think she only got the darkhold in order to get Nicky back and/or to hide from Rio and people trying to kill her. There is just so much more to her character I find fascinating. I don't need an answer to everything, cause I still enjoy the mystery. I just wish we could have spent more time in the flashback, especially with her and Rio.
I definitely agree with you here! I don’t wanna know it all because the mystery is part of the fun, but there is some important stuff about her backstory and how she found the Darkhold that I really wish they had more time for. The flashback skipped over some pretty important stuff that would’ve made what we saw even more impactful
I won’t argue with you on the representation piece, because I don’t feel like that is my place. What I will say is that for this adaptation I like idea that he only has his experience as William from 13-16. I think much like being adopted into a family, it doesn’t make those people any less important to you, but in terms of time it helps level the playing field of the relatively little time he spent with his “birth” family. Wanda loved him so much and I guess I feel some desire to have those memories carry some weight. It does seem like he is going to start remembering his time from the hex. Also, not to be too social worker-y 🤓, but there is a tangible benefit to being raised in a loving home without trauma that your body and brain receive that doesn’t require you to have conscience memory of. Having secure attachment as a baby, not having constantly elevated levels of stress, and proper nutrition to name a few, are all things you can “inherit” from a body. If that were a real thing.
Jeff and Rebecca Kaplan in the comics are loving and supportive parents. Although Billy here in Agatha All Along doesn't grow up with them as his biological parents as he did in the comics, I'm glad that they were portrayed that way in the show, too, being supportive of his interests and his relationship.
As a fanatic of WandaVision, I'm just happy to sse its corner of the MCU isn't bogged down by recent misteps of the MCU with Agathat All Along being this good. So all that remains now is that they deliver on the Vision Quest show, which of course is a spiritual threequel to WandaVision.
17:01 If y’all don’t stop playing in my girl, Ms. Davis, she gon get yall istg. She coming back as the big bad in Secret Wars and will destroy the Avengers. 🔥🔥
I watched it twice, which is something I can rarely say about TV series. Lots of small details, like the blood stain that gets bigger in Billy's suit and changes his look from blue to blue-red and stays in his cloak. I (35+) liked the series at least because in our childhood there were Smallville and Charmed, Buffy and others, and groups of strong and independent people who joke about feminism and stereotypes and troll the entire female agenda (fake cosmetics, gossip covering up tragic stories, refusing to admit one's own characteristics to feel "normal", impostor syndrome, demonstrative disdain hiding love, fear of old age, fear of death, experiencing loss and a lot more). A rare series, in the style of "Interstate 60": with humor and a touch of sitcom in a magical setting to raise very complex and topical issues. They squeezed 100500% out of a small budget. It looks nice, you can watch it even several times without shame, the plot is built in the style of the old "Marvel", collecting puzzles from small pieces that you might not notice the first time (like the fact that each test came after a dialogue with Billy, when he learned something important about the witches of the coven). Well, the women are very characteristic. Agatha's beautiful butt, Rio's everything is beautiful, Lilia's image of a beloved grandmother, Wu's underground (and a reference to the fact that she was a police officer, which echoes the fact that Wanda locked Agatha in the plot of a police series). Made with soul, can be watched years later separately from the MCU, because the universe is integral and the characters are revealed well.
13:11 isnt like william kaplan died tho? so its weird if their soul merge when we clearly hear william heart stop beating, the same as tommy probably bcs billy said tht “am i killing this child so tht my brother could live” so i would assume the og(?) soul of kaplan and shepherd is gone i mean he can still be billy and william at the same time, bcs tht is william’s body and also billy’s soul
Agatha All Along is my favorite of the Marvel Shows. It was such a pleasant surprise how good it was. The whole cast was incredible but Kathryn Hahn is a huge standout for me.
@ I usually stay for them, I like hearing your commentary on the mcu!Hearing how excited you are for their projects feels like a friend who hypes my own excitement even more! Thank you for creating this positive space ✨
I think the reason why Wandavision and Agatha All Along were so good as series, was because they were Made as series. And not as a long, chopped up movie.
Daredevil is the best Marvel show for the record but I’m just talking about shows made by Marvel Studios for Disney+
Wandavision and Agatha were better than Daredevil
I personally think Agents of Shield is the best live action MCU show. Daredevil is right after it through.
The punisher loki and luke cage was all better than daredevil
I feel like most people understand that. But hey, some people are a lil slow ig lol
@@emanuelrodriguez9044 YES. YES. YES. YES. YES. I rewatched it last year and I was like "How was this so much better than I remember?" All the way until the end

We have truly never been more back
kinda crazy that marvel television literally started from Wandavision, which is the most similar to Agatha All Along in format, but then strayed away into "6 episode movie" for 3 years
Hopefully from now on if they are releasing "6 episode events" let it be like echo and just release it all at once as a "6 hour movie"

As an Ashkenazi Jew, I care a lot less about joe Locke not being Jewish and care a lot more about the fact that they got the bar mitzvah scene so right. I’ve been to bar mitzvahs like that. I’ve sung the prayer he sings. It was wonderful and all I really need
Exactly, it feels like “I’ve done this prayer, I’ve been where he’s been” instead of “he’s supposed to be Jewish?”
I saw a comment somewhere that William was carrying the Torah on the wrong shoulder and it's a very bad thing. How big of a deal is it carrying it on the left shoulder?
“Who asked for this show?”
Um…the Agatha Theme song from Wandavision was #1 on the iTunes Charts….so majority of people
Okay but the one's that wrote the ballad of the road also wrote frozen, no wonder it's so catchy and they sure milked the hell outa it
@@tuankietle2845 the Lopez duo who wrote Frozen and Witches road also wrote all the TV era theme songs from Wandavision - including the Munsters inspired Agatha Theme Song

@@takewithfood what about loki?
Shittttt this is seriously the PERFECT way to look at it! Thank you for this 👏🏽

Me before watching Agatha: Agatha show? why?
Me after watching Agatha: holy shit that was amazing.
Honestly didn't even realise the trailer had released for about a month
Me after watching Agatha: DOOOOOOWN DOOOOOWN DOWN THE ROOOOAAAAAD DOWN THE WITCHES ROAD
Watched it all today and loved it! Cannot wait for DS3 or whatever the second spin-off will be!❤
Thank you for your point at the end!!
Facts, straight up facts
This is genuinely such a smart way to approach it
@@WholeShebangYT something to note is that he doesn't have either William or Billy memories, having only fragments.
The haters ignored it, so that those who wanted could enjoy it without the constant discussion why you also should hate it. I liked it.
You're not EXAGGERATING, this is the best Marvel series they've ever done. I loved it.
Joe Locke was great in this show.
I’ve been watching clips of their podcast ever since the show and they’re so funny 😭 it needs to happen
Minor Spoiler:
My vote for best throwaway line/joke is Teens "Come on, I don't want to go back in the closet!"

Agatha All Along gotta be the biggest surprise in the last 4 years for MCU LIKE WHAT? ITS ACTUALLY IMPRESIVE

Yeah it definitely is supposed to be which I like a lot! I was worried they would do a final episode reveal, but having it be so casual is MUCH better
Rewatching this show has me kicking myself for missing all the clues, everything agatha does, says, every gesture she makes all point to the truth about the road, and every scene she has with billy carry a completely diffrent meaning.
What are you talking about, Joe locke is best decision they could have made for Wiccan. He's great
I agree! I can't think of anyone better for this role.
One of the best marvel show definitely
MCU has a bad rep with casting them and that needs to be changed
But yeah I’m very glad they found an openly gay actor because god is the industry cruel to people who aren’t ready to label themselves
I saw someone say Lillia was also Romani in the comics.

Is on par with Loki for MCU shows, Incredible really, visuals and story really started kicking up as the episodes progressed
Quite concerned with the hate around it
People are incredibly sexist when it comes to female lead projects, it’s really sad to see them hate on it without giving it a chance
You just have to ignore those people. If superhero movies aren't ripped dudes kicking ass they lose their minds. Most of them won't ever watch the show and will just hate on it online cus they have nothing better do do with their sad lives lol. Everyone who watched it knows how good the show actually is.
@@WholeShebangYT I disagree with it all being about sexism, a few bad apples sure,
Most of the MCU female led films and shows have been a disaster tbh, this feels more of reputation thing
I really liked Agatha All Along and Ms. Marvel tho, shame She Hulk turned everything into shit
@@ThatGuyGloomy definitely not a reason, comicbook fans aren't watching because of the physique or violence it is for the character they grew up with
But action is a huge part of Entertainment, cannot be discounted
Winter Soldier was incredible,

Also on physical side
Spiderman isnt huge, neither is Daredevil, Iron Man, Ant Man, Dr Strange, these are just MCU examples
Let's not ignore how much hate is due to homophobia. Combined with misogyny it drove some people into rabid foaming at the mouth.
Interesting reveal was that Billy was the Black Heart 🖤 on the Coven list.
Don't think many people caught that.
21:57 I think Jac put it that Agatha is “mid-arc” and there’s so much more to do with her before she can fully be redeemed 💜
No I encourage you to be that person! I am trying my best to get things right, and now I know for the future so thank you!
@@WholeShebangYT thanks for caring about getting it right. That is what we need in the world!
To me, it is the best MCU show. Wandavision, Loki, Moonknight and What if were also good, but I've enjoyed Agatha All along more than any of that
Katherine Hahn and Elizabeth Olsen are what have carried the MCU the past 5 years and they deserve more attention for that.
He had 8 callbacks before they did the chemistry test between him and Cathryn.
The two best lines in the show hands down:
"I don't want to go back in the closet!"
"What can I say, I like the bad boys."
Can't wait.
@@wokeaf1242 Hawkeye love! Honestly I watch that show just to feel comfortable. The vibes are great.
Yes! And it's also the first Marvel tv show with PERFECTLY WRITTEN FEMALE CHARACTERS.

0:01 PREACH BROTHER!!! I rolled my eyes when ppl said no one wanted it
I LOVED this show.
Representation without using it as a marketing tool was a chefs kiss for this incredible show 🤌🏻
Next time a scarlet witch anything comes up, Jack Schafer NEEDS to be in charge.
Before watching Agatha All Along, I went ahead and watched WandaVision first and I was surprised that I actually liked the first half of the show but then sorta mentally tapped out when the usual Marvel end of the world type shenanigans happened in the later half lol
With Agatha All Along, I was quite hooked when watching the first episode since it was neat that they carried on from the end of WandaVision with Agatha's fate and how the curse had taken control of her life for the last 3 years.
I’m right there with u!!! I DEFINITELY asked for this show!! And I’m so sad it’s over-Jac Shaffer is the 🐐
I won’t argue about the Jewish representation bit (though my understanding is that it isn’t a totally black and white issue for all Jewish people), however I’ve seen people call him miscast for other reasons and I think that’s a crazy thing to say about someone who did such a good job and embodied the role this well.
It also honours the fact that William is dead
p.s. i think it's quite telling they keep calling the original Kaplan child William and never Billy. i think what they were going for is that the comics character of Billy Kaplan in the MCU is the one starting from 13 years old.
Next time we see Jen Im hoping she’s hanging out with Ted and Jack Russell one more member closer to true Midnight Sons! 🩷🌿🐺
Liked the show so much I had to get the record. There’s just something about hearing it on vinyl.
Yes I love this show and I already miss it 😢 I can’t wait to go back and find out what is going on with Agatha and Billy plus I want to know Tommy
I, us, we asked for this. I wanted Agatha to have her own show ever since I heard, "It was Agatha All Along." Little bop!
I love this show soooooo much… i love how they portrayed everything
Agatha All Along is DEFINITELY one of the best shows ever, it is SO GOOD
I needed this show 😭💜
I loved this show and was one of the people who def asked for it from the beginning!
The flashback skipped over some pretty important stuff that would’ve made what we saw even more impactful
great show and great video too!! keep posting i love these vids!!
He was reincarnated. He is an amalgamation of William’s brain (and body) and Billy’s soul
Yes!! The best show! 🔮💜
Most disappointing thing about this show is the the fact we're going to have to wait a few years for the sequel/spinoff
16:54 “no thank you, i don’t do drugs”
17:01 If y’all don’t stop playing in my girl, Ms. Davis, she gon get yall istg. She coming back as the big bad in Secret Wars and will destroy the Avengers. 🔥🔥
Sharon solos the Avengers
*with my girl omg 😭😭 that makes it look like im saying something completely different
My top 5 MCU shows:
1. Agatha All Along
2. WandaVision
3. Loki
4. MoonKnight
5. What If
13:11 isnt like william kaplan died tho? so its weird if their soul merge when we clearly hear william heart stop beating, the same as tommy probably bcs billy said tht “am i killing this child so tht my brother could live” so i would assume the og(?) soul of kaplan and shepherd is gone
i mean he can still be billy and william at the same time, bcs tht is william’s body and also billy’s soul
All I know is that I loved each character in AAA and became more emotionally invested in the show more than any other MCU project.
I’m not a huge Marvel Fan - but I watched Wandavision purely to watch Agatha All Along. It was fantastic.
Agatha All Along is my favorite of the Marvel Shows. It was such a pleasant surprise how good it was. The whole cast was incredible but Kathryn Hahn is a huge standout for me.
If Jac Sxhaeffer gets a hold of the inhumans, I'm sure she can turn that IP into gold
Your super underrated I’m going to sub I love this series too
That outro was my favorite of yours
Thank you! I’m glad someone stayed to watch the outro
@ I usually stay for them, I like hearing your commentary on the mcu!Hearing how excited you are for their projects feels like a friend who hypes my own excitement even more! Thank you for creating this positive space ✨
Hmm .. they made it clear that Billy has no memories of either previous life. He remembers nothing before the crash.
He also seems to be a combination of the two of them.
I think the reason why Wandavision and Agatha All Along were so good as series, was because they were Made as series. And not as a long, chopped up movie.
Ditto to everything said here. This show was exactly for me and it was perfection. I tell everyone I know to go watch it.
It was in my autoplay but ure so right it's soooo goood
The fact that it was a hit is no surprise to me. Just look at the cast!!
Loved, LOVED this video!
