Nice cosplay enjoyed watching it! Just to add a few things: 1. do not consider the Iron Golem your ally. BUT: it's not visualized, but it seems you killed the fire bomb throwing giant which is an ally and a kin to you (or at least servants of Gwyn). 2. saving the pyro was a mistake. He is after the chaos pyro powers - which was the very thing your boss was waging war against 3. The Fair Lady is not the last daughter of Izalith. You can meet Queelana in DS1 in person (well, not in this run, but you can) 1 hollowed daughter attacks you at the Kirk invasion spot and you meet 2 others when dealing with the Bed of Chaos. 4. no reason to kill the black knight in the Asylum just grab the doll and warp out.
For the Iron Golem, that’s good to know, and makes that fight more “lore friendly”. For the Fire Bomb Giant, when I approached him, he physically attacked me, so he unfortunately had to be put down. For Laurentius, I tried not to use foreknowledge when roleplaying, or else I would’ve killed Lautrec immediately rather than let him kill Anastacia. Since Ornstein wouldn’t have known he was after the Chaos Pyromancy, he would’ve help the seemingly innocent man. For the Fair Lady, yeah I realized that after I said it but honestly couldn’t be bothered to fix lol, you meet like 3 other daughters of Izalith after her. For the Black Knight, it was a similar situation that, rather than simply running past, I would’ve had to maneuver around and then warp away to not get attacked, which I took a little more seriously than just having to run past someone along a path, but ultimately my not killing Gwyn aligned NPCs is up to you guys for whether I passed or failed

0:30 - If you want a more casual and chill run after some hard times, a Hollow Soldier run ir's something. It can show how any Hollow can surpass everything and become the Dark Lord just if don't stay stationary in one place as a rebel or bored soldier or whatever background like that. A Balder Knigth it's also an option. But I don't know how to roleplay that, I don't know what they are doing here and there.
The lore on Balder Knights is literally in their armor. They're all in Lordran for the Chosen Undead Prophecy. Nothing special for roleplay, really. They might link the Flame if they could, to "save" their homeland from the Undead Curse (as many Undead seem to believe will happen after linking the Flame). That said, there's one problem - the kingdom of Balder already collapsed. So I got no idea if they'd still try. I suppose so, if that's the one goal keeping them from going Hollow. Maybe an empathetic desire to avoid collapse happening to other kingdoms? Hard to say. But they did originally come to Lordran to link the Flame.
@@TheCain91 Looking back at it, I was incorrect on where the information was - it's not just the Balder Knight set, but also the "Crestfallen Merchant" dialogue. But my points are supported in-game. The armor description didn't explicitly mention "linking the First Flame," but it does explicitly mention that Knight King Rendal was from Balder, and that the kingdom collapsed due to the Undead Curse. As a warrior-king, he no-doubt led his soldiers personally. Speaking of, there's dozens of Balder Knights on top and outside of Sen's Fortress, and Rendal's famous "Ring of Steel Protection" is recovered near the first ball trap. The "Crestfallen Merchant" NPC explicitly mentions that Knight King Rendal attempted to gain access to Anor Londo, but failed. As Rendal was almost certainly the one leading the Balder Knights, it's safe to say they all sought the same goal of fulfilling the "Undead Prophecy." Maybe they had a different reason for braving Sen's Fortress, such as with Lautrec, Griggs, and Logan. However, the only explicit dots to connect are the tragedy of their kingdom, Rendal's attempt to enter Anor Londo, and the prevalence of many Undead crusading for the prophecy. Put all three together, and it's fairly likely they were simply trying to do the same. There's even a singular Balder Knight NPC who attacks the player in Anor Londo for "killing" Gwynevere - if nothing else, that particular guy wasn't questing for something outside of the city.
There are mods that allow you to control an enemy. You would have this enemies hitboxes, attacks, etc. and since Ornstein is bigger than the player you would not fit through small hallways, making this run impossible.
19:08 if it makes you feel any better about the run, the great lord great-swords and sunlight blade descriptions in game suggest that the nameless king was banished by Gwyndolin after Gwyn left to link the fire, so he and nameless would have been on good terms the last time they saw each other.
@@redfoxrpg I actually have a spell idea (or two) to replicate Artorias's abyssal explosion - Karmic Justice! Not only does it basically cast Wrath of the Gods, but it also has a similar coloration to Artorias's actual explosion attack. The drawback is you would need to get rapidly hit 5 times consecutively for it to detonate. Any small, fast enemy could easily trigger the explosion if you're comfortable getting smacked a lil' - skeletons, hollows, hostile NPCs, and so forth. It will also explode from lava or multi-hit grabs (such as slimes, ents, crows, or blighttown hollows)! It's not a particularly great spell in PvE, but it could be interesting to try for PvP as the cosplay, though. Alternatively, you could cast Power Within to replicate the damage boost Artorias gets after exploding, instead of trying to replicate the explosion itself. It'd give more utility. On the topic of replicating attacks - during the actual boss fight, Artorias has attacks reminiscent of the one-handed and two-handed power attacks from both Greatswords of Artorias. If you didn't notice before (I know I hadn't), then the stabbing slide is an altered version of the one-handed heavy, while the slow uppercut is almost a 1-1 copy of the two-handed heavy. Kinda neat that the devs made some of his attacks replicate part of the moveset in his base game weapons .
Fun fact the titanite demon is not actually a demon according to the lore a demon must be born of the chaos flame or have originated from it in some way to be a demon but the titanite demon was made by the blacksmith god
Oh yeah! That’s why all their heads are cut off supposedly, because it was the face of the Blacksmith God’s. Eh, I’m sure there was something else I missed, but you’re absolutely right
@@redfoxrpg there is also the matter that the batwing demons in anor londo are legit demons but they work for gwyn because he stole them from izalith during his last war with the demons so im not sure if they are truly friends or enemies because on one hand they are demons but on the other they stayed loyal as ferrymen for the gods the whole series

I don't know if anyone has told you yet, but Kyoufo has already did this run and many other runs of other characters. I guess he didn't do a perfect lore accurate Ornstein, but he still cosplayed. Just to let you know.
Yeah, based on my first run through on NG when I could get the gear, it wasn’t really that bad, but this run on NG+ was actually a solid challenge from O&S and beyond (early game wasn’t that bad)
I really hope you keep making these video challenges they are incredibly entertaining.I hope you cosplay as other bosses or npcs in these games,i'd like to see if you can beat the game as something like patches or solaire.
You inspired me, and now I hate you. I've developed a cosplay run, I have to pick a potential Chosen Undead and beat the game as them, then then I have to beat it on NG+ as a new chosen undead, and I have to keep going until I run out of chosen undead candidates. I'm currently on NG Crestfallen Warrior. Next Comes Oscar on NG+ Then Solaire as NG++ So on and so forth. This is hard because I'm just a lightning bolt spamming, Zweihander Slamming filthy casual and now I have to get gud. If you like Cosplay runs, then I'd love to see you do such a run!
Damn, that sounds awesome! See which one can get the furthest! I definitely either wanna do this or something like it as a challenge one day, good idea!
Little trivia? From DS3, we know Ornstein actually bailed from Anor Londo, presumably before DS1 took place. He apparently found his Nameless King, and stayed with him til the end, since his armor is found in the King's arena, if memory serves. Other bit of trivia? Nameless King's name seems to be Faraam, since that's the only other "God of War" mentioned in the series.
Just recently got into the dark souls and loved this video of yours! Think you can do others in the same line, maybe beating the game as Solaire or something? I really enjoyed this one!
Welcome to Dark Souls bud, glad you’re a fan of the series, and my video! You can definitely expect to see a ton more of these runs in the future, with bosses and NPCs from all the Souls games
You actually missed the dragons opjective, these weird ginat things standing around in the lava in lost izalith, are actually the butts of dragons. Great video btw
@@redfoxrpg it was just a joke, once you see all the requirements and limitations, yeah it's not that easy. It's like using a holy weapon in the last half of elden ring when all of the bosses have holy damage negation
About a decade ago, two RUclipsrs/Twitch streamers did a NG+ co-op playthrough as Smough and Ornstein on the PTDE via PC. Rurikhan played as Smough, while MFPallytime played as Ornstein. It was goofy. There were some hilarious hijinks in their playlists.
As far as I know Havel was no traitor or anything. But also the "Havel" inside the tower is also not HAvel but one of his knights. Havel himself didnt need the ring to carry the armor and schield but could do it due to his own god like strenth. The man in the tower however gives you Havels Ring, which is a magic ring all knights of havel had (Knights of havel started as just knights following havel inspired by his god like strength and so it became like his own little havel army or something) After Gwyns linking of the forst flame however Havel (the real one) vanished alongside all the other dietys of arnor londo (Close people to gwyn or his family and stuff) Havel vanished without his weapon and armor however since we find it close to the main hall of Anor Londo in a secred Basement room. About the "Havel" in the tower, He just hollowed and got caged by his friend since he was undead so would come back if killed and that would be too dangerous (Well but ingame he obviously doesnt respawn tho) Got this about it from the wicki (since I wanted to make sure not to talk bullshit) "One of his [Havels] knights that was still in Lordran turned into a Hollow and was locked away by a dear friend inside a stone cell in the basement of the watchtower of the Undead Burg"
Thanks homie, and yeah I totally get it. Such a fun game to play, the lore goes hard, and every entry in the series, at least in my opinion, is a banger, something increasingly difficult to do in today’s gaming industry
You can save Solaire without boss shortcut, use toxic mist around the center of the door a couple times, if you see damage numbers, wait and the bugs give 30 souls but Solaire brain maggot gives 100 so look at your soul counter after the creature beyond the gate dies. And yes I know that doesn’t work here because toxic mist isn’t an ornstein move
@@TheBagman-ls5cv yeah, someone else mentioned I could try two-handing my weapon to see if I could get it to clip in enough to get the bug, but no luck, I tried for the Smough run and nada
Same, I’ve got an overactive imagination and challenge runs of games I like are just engaging enough to focus my attention but without keeping me awake
Thanks homie! Sure, I think it was either Warrior for higher strength and dex or Knight for higher faith, either one should work and get you a good start on your stats
Yeah, I wanted to do the RP because any human or undead that was strong enough could’ve used his equipment and beaten the game, but I wanted this to be as close to actually being Ornstein short of playing as the boss as possible
for Priscilla, wouldnt ornstein let her live after knowing she was a pacifist (unless attacked) and she posed no threat to anor londo? , i mean after all, if gywn really wanted to, he would have killed her, or ordered someone to do it
It’s my understanding from the lore (most of which being up to interpretation) that she was banished to the Painted World because Gwyn and the gods feared the power of the Lifehunt Scythe, one of the only things powerful enough to actually kill them. While Ornstein would certainly slay her with a heavy heart due to her not wanting to harm anyone, I personally believe he would still kill her given the chance due to A) the threat she presents and the desire of the gods for her to be destroyed and B) her half dragon nature
The fire sage is weird it’s usually an easy fight but I’ve had a few runs were the ai becomes really hard and just keeps spamming those bombs making it nearly impossible to do physical damage like every time you get behind it it bombs you from the front
@@redfoxrpg i just fought the hellkite drake last night and i swear it was buged damn thing spamed fire the entire time couldn’t get one hit off before getting staggered by fire i had to kill it with the great bow luckily i had all the fire defense so I could just sit there and take it

@@Signaem I could definitely see that, but I’m not sure about Seath post insanity and Gwyn’s leaving: were the Channlers loyal to Gwyn above all, or only Seath
For Ornstein, he’d probably understand the idea of it, that they only locked her away because they were afraid of trying to deal with her, but for the Smough run I just finished recording, all he’d likely know is that she was sealed away and that he doesn’t know any better than the gods that did it, so she’s safe this time around
@@redfoxrpg Awesome, I literally only picked up Dark Souls as a series less than a week ago, and with Ornstein's armor and spear in hand I had the idea to do this exact thing, so I looked it up and found your channel! I loved this video and how in character you got with it (and all your creative ways of calling yourself and all your friends the moral harbingers of justice and all your enemies as intrinsically evil devil spawn lol), but in my first playthrough I could not kill Priscilla. She was the only boss nice to me, a huge feat considering I broke into her house and killed her pet dragon.
Where did you get that Gwyn & knights lost the war with demons ? They did not, demons were contained in Izalith, and some were forced to serve Gwyn (winged demons).
Straight from Gwyn’s wiki page: “During the war their armor and weapons were charred black but despite their strength Gwyn's knights failed to defeat the demons or the Bed of Chaos, ending up retreating and only managing to banish the demons underground while also enslaving some lesser demons who would become servants of the gods.” Not only did they get charred in the war, but rather than actually beating them, they had to settle for sealing them off because they couldn’t win against them.
@@redfoxrpg They failed to defeat is not equal to lost the war. Plus, they banished demons underground (Izalith) and forced some demons to serve the gods. In other words, they did win, but it was conditional victory. There is also cut dialogue for Quelaag where she says that creatures of Chaos accept their banished fate, and mentions some Pact (presumably with Gwyn) which bans undead to enter demon's domain but also bans demons from exiting it.
@@Victim-5 i think so, but it also wouldn’t make sense since there’s a statue of the Nameless King in DS1, where you go to enter the Sunlight Bros covenant, but that town didn’t even exist in the Artorias DLC a thousand years prior, someone made a video about it I vaguely remember but the result was that perhaps it isn’t as we understand it (Dark Souls lore in a nutshell)
@@redfoxrpg First of all, how nice of you to comment! :) second, because I can't really mod the game due to lack of knowledge and modding compitance what I did was use the regular spear and didn't really struggle with any boss since I didn't adhere to realistic leveling and just leveled whatever I wanted and as much as I wanted so I kinda curcumvented that whole issue 😂 but after I defeated o&s I ascended the spear making it the dragonslayer spear and got his very overly priced armour but to answer your question; I think it was gwyn that gave me the most trouble, I always seem to struggle with him the most whenever I revisit the game, which I for one find actually quite fitting! Overall I would say I enjoyed doing it a lot, and I have to planed challenges I am excited to try out which I will tell you about in a somewhat hope that you might make a video out of it as well which are my ds3 moonlight greatsword where I plan to get it early and see how it goes beating the game with it and my other plan is also in ds3 where I plan to only level luck and vitality, I think a luck based run would be interesting and I've heard it increases blood and poison buildup making it decidedly not completely useless! And I would level vitality a little because I'm not a complete sadist ;3 Sadly I won't be home for another two days so it will take a while to get started but if one or both of those runs seem the slightest bit intriguing I would be very honoured if you chose to make a video out of them :) no pressure of course!

@@redfoxrpg Yeah, and the thing that confuses me the mpst is that I had gotten modding to work but then it suddenly stopped working and don't know why.. Anyway! Wouldn't have Ornstein, in-character, face the Artorias of the Abyss DLC? His companions are there, Ornstein would surely mercy kill Artorias and defeat Manus and Kalameet if given the chance; with the Santuary Guardian receiving the same treatment as the Gargoyles and Iron Golem. I still throughly enjoyed the video, but I'm curious in that regard
Oh yeah, you’re 100% correct: Manus is easily a huge issue for Ornstein, Artorias would’ve been a mercy kill, and Kalameet would be a perfect final dragon, but unfortunately for this run I was using the Xbox 360 version of Dark Souls and the DLC is no longer available for purchase, so while I might do a small DLC run for Ornstein in the future to finish off the DLC bosses, the reason I didn’t do the DLC this time around was entirely a me problem lol
The Zweihander’s really good! Not sure how much it would benefit from the Leo Ring, but I used the Dragonslayer armor and Zweihander for my first playthrough as well
Absolutely, I’ll probably use a combination of two-handed, left handed and right handed since he occasionally two hands his blade, is left-handed naturally, and wields it in his right hand when we fight him due to his broken arm
@@DFFfanalltheway I’ll use the shield for a portion and will try to use all of the Artorias Swords and equipment, I’ll have a more organized ruleset for it down the line
For this run, I was playing on OG Dark Souls for the Xbox 360, and I unfortunately don’t have the DLC (which is no longer available). Some runs in the future will be on the Remastered version and will include the DLC
It’s a little confusing, but his leaving can be interpreted in either two ways: he left and sacrificed his life to continue the Age of Fire and save his civilization and people or he selfishly used his soul to stop the end of the Age of Fire to stop humanity from taking the world from his people and children, abandoning his people in the process.
Good catch! Thanks for your support, and I’ll definitely be doing the Remastered version for a couple runs in the future and doing the entire DLC for two certain special boss cosplay runs I have in mind
It’s interesting that you call the Ornstein boss, a fake because I think there’s a theory that he’s simply just an illusion that Gwendolyn created don’t know if it has any merit to it but it’s an interesting theory
@@Nevermore15-t1z I’ve heard of the theory before, there’s some solid evidence for and against (like most Souls theories lol), I prefer to think he’s the real deal myself, but the imposter angle sure worked well for the video lol
His Heavy Lightning Spear attack is basically the Lightning Spear miracle (same animation and effect, just from his spear and not a talisman) and in the lore he 100% can use Lightning Spear as even in the opening cutscene we see an army of fodder Silver Knights do it, so it’s okay
Unfortunately, while I was playing the OG Dark Souls 360 version, it’s a transfer from the 360 to the Series X I was playing on lol, would’ve been cool to do the run on the 360 tho
@@MWoyde I tried a couple times, but it never went very well, case in point the Four Kings (just a skill issue on my part honestly), also I needed to one hand it for the lightning spear weapon art

I love the gameplay and roleplaying commentary. It's refreshing watching someone who actually knows why they're doing what they're doing
@@BigBroKuma thank you! I dunno if I know what I’m doing, but I’m happy that this run and video entertained you!

Me immediately: No you can't because small hallways.
Alright I’m man enough to admit it, I don’t get it
There are mods that allow you to control an enemy.

By gwyn, i cant wait to see the artorias run
Artorias run’s gunna be on the remastered version and I’ll be doing all the DLC!
@@redfoxrpg awesome.
@@redfoxrpgok, dumb idea for the artorias run, using the dark spells (darkbead, dark fog, etc) since when you fight him, he uses the dark damage
I feel like this is supposed to be a "by sithis" reference.

I'm currently on NG Crestfallen Warrior.
Next Comes Oscar on NG+
Then Solaire as NG++
So on and so forth.
This is hard because I'm just a lightning bolt spamming, Zweihander Slamming filthy casual and now I have to get gud.

About the "Havel" in the tower, He just hollowed and got caged by his friend since he was undead so would come back if killed and that would be too dangerous (Well but ingame he obviously doesnt respawn tho)
Got this about it from the wicki (since I wanted to make sure not to talk bullshit) "One of his [Havels] knights that was still in Lordran turned into a Hollow and was locked away by a dear friend inside a stone cell in the basement of the watchtower of the Undead Burg"

Yeah, I wanted to do the RP because any human or undead that was strong enough could’ve used his equipment and beaten the game, but I wanted this to be as close to actually being Ornstein short of playing as the boss as possible
Fun Fact: Lautrec is favored by Fina, not Velka.
Thanks for letting me know! I knew that probably wasn’t right since Velka is Oswald’s patron deity
for Priscilla, wouldnt ornstein let her live after knowing she was a pacifist (unless attacked) and she posed no threat to anor londo? , i mean after all, if gywn really wanted to, he would have killed her, or ordered someone to do it
It’s my understanding from the lore (most of which being up to interpretation) that she was banished to the Painted World because Gwyn and the gods feared the power of the Lifehunt Scythe, one of the only things powerful enough to actually kill them.

:( Not Priscilla...... She is where the God's placed her would be my loophole. Safely locked away with no intention of escaping.
Straight from Gwyn’s wiki page:
“During the war their armor and weapons were charred black but despite their strength Gwyn's knights failed to defeat the demons or the Bed of Chaos, ending up retreating and only managing to banish the demons underground while also enslaving some lesser demons who would become servants of the gods.”
Not only did they get charred in the war, but rather than actually beating them, they had to settle for sealing them off because they couldn’t win against them.
