Hi, I’m the one who left the little purple sticky note for Jani! 💜
I’m a published author/poet and wanted to give him something a little more meaningful than flowers, so I picked the main line of a poem I wrote called “Voltage.” Thank you so much for reading it; it was awesome and touching to see my little sentiment still with him! It’s been there for a little over a month.
Jani is definitely “a current whose voltage knows no end,” forever living on in music and the fans that keep it spinning. Relax in paradise Jani and Kim. 🩷🕊️

@@chrisandbarbarahenning1780 thank you! I don’t normally do this, but this is the full poem.
      “Voltage”
      Your voice is lightning-
      Lightning breaking over thunder’s cacophony,
Deafening emotions lifting the beat of our hearts
      Lightning
Reflected in the steel veins of this city,
Bolts that rain upon Amarillo pastures,
And everything in between in synchronicity
Fifty thousand degrees can hardly contend
      With the power you don’t know you wield;
You are a current whose voltage knows no end. ⚡️

I had the pleasure of meeting Jani twice in my former life as a broadcaster. The band was playing a small club in North Dakota in 1995 (obviously well after grunge had come along and relegated Warrant's genre from Arenas to small clubs). I was given the opportunity to interview the band before their show. All the members were there except Jani, but after the show Jerry Dixon and Erik Turner came over and said "hey, Jani wants to meet you." We then spent the next 5-6 hours hanging out one-on-one. He apologized for missing the initial interview and then we ended up talking (and yes, drinking) the rest of the night away...... discussing anything and everything (he was a big football fan, and we had that in common.) Then at 2am when the bouncers tried to tell me it was time to leave Jani stepped in and said "No, he's good, he's with me." Talk about a rock star moment. He was the nicest, kindest, most genuine person, and his talent was undeniable. Sadly, they came back around for an outdoor show 6 months later. The rest of the guys (all also awesome people) remembered me, hung out with me prior to the show, and even let me record the entire concert, but Jani was in a much lower point this time around. Between songs he would go backstage and sit down with his head in his hands. We didn't talk that time, but it was evident he wasn't doing as well. I was crushed when he passed. Thank you for this video! (I also had no idea about his wife's passing the year before, it helps explain where he may have been emotionally.)

Lamont, Jani was dropped off at that hotel by someone who left him without a wallet or I.D except for a piece of paper in his pocket that said his name. Whomever dropped him off there, knew he had a problem with alcohol. It was an awful way for such a nice man like Jani to have gone. All alone in a hotel room deep in his alcoholism. I met Jani way back in the early 90’s in Toronto before a show and let me say what a nice, kind humble man he was. He deserved better than this😢

True yes he did, but think if you are a bartender closing down for the night. The guy refuses to get in the taxi, refuses an ambulance. Has no money or anything in his pockets. I have known people at the end of alcoholism and stayed awake , while the slept off a drunk so they wouldn’t die in their sleep. Because after so many times the ambulance is not too keen on taking a drunk fighting guy who refuses treatment.
The person who left him could have called the police for a welfare check , maybe it would have been easier to get him to the hospital if the popo couldn’t wake him. I am sorry he couldn’t be helped ,but he had it very bad for a long time. Yes, I am very sorry for his daughter & the world ,they lost a good man, too soon.

@@blazefairchild465 From what I understand he was dropped off there as in to not have to deal with him. I have spoken to his first wife Bobbie Jean Brown and she has said that whomever did this to him did him a disservice and knows what they did was wrong. No, I.D, no money, no wallet just a piece of paper in his pocket that said his name. No one did a welfare check on him sadly. The staff had housecleaning go around as they do and when the cleaning lady entered she saw a body back facing the door where she entered. She went down to the desk and told them. They asked the cleaning lady to check on the person, check if they were breathing. Sadly, the person declined. So, when I say a horrible end, it makes me sad to even remember the details. At the end of Bobbie Jean Brown’s book, she discusses the incident with Jani and the hotel. She and his family wanted to find out who left him there is such a condition knowing he needed help.
Sorry for the novel. I hope this answers some questions 🙂

Omg you don’t even know how much you have made a dream of mine. When I was 12 years old Warrant was coming out and my crush of my life is Jani. They came to a record store here in Baltimore and I met Jani and made A T-shirt for him to sign and I told him I love him so much and he came around the signing table and gave me the biggest hug and kiss on my cheek. He spent a few minutes talking with me and he was so genuine about the fact that he was loved. He said to always be his biggest fan and he thanked me. He was the sweetest guy ever and I still love him and he always will be my favorite singer and songwriter. He was so underrated with his song writing and feelings that comes out. He was a very talented musician who had unfortunately had demons and depression but he couldn’t stay sober. I was crushed with his downfall. I was always praying that he could overcome his addiction to alcohol and I was devastated when he died. I watched every episode of Wives of rock and Bobbi Brown Janis first wife and he had a daughter with her was on the show. She wrote 2 books and they are amazing. She said that when Jani was younger and began to be around other rock stars and a famous rock star actually Raped him and he never mentioned it and he was never able to overcome that. I saw Warrant with Jani Lane around 30 years ago at a night club that doesn't exist anymore. Went in before the show and talked to Jani and he was a very nice and down to earth human being. He talked to you as a person and not as a musician or a rock star. He didn't have the "I'm a musician. I'm better than you" attitude. And, after the concert, myself and a few other people hung out with him until 4 in the morning. Warrant's second album was originally called "Uncle Tom's Cabin". However Columbia Records, Warrant's label, listened to the whole album and did not hear a potential hit single. So they told the band they needed something like Aerosmith's "Love In An Elevator" so the band, in one night, wrote and recorded "Cherry Pie". Next thing Cherry Pie the album came out as well as the single. Another story Jani mentioned was they visited Columbia Records and there was a poster behind the secretary of the Cherry Pie album cover. Next time Warrant released Dog Eat Dog and the secretary had Alice In Chains "Dirt". And everything changed.

I was standing in the front leaning on the stage during the concert. Jani noticed I was a little uncomfortable and wasn't smiling (I was 15 and self conscious bc I was by myself). So, throughout the entire concert he would frequently glance down at me as he was singing, lift his sunglasses, wink, and motion for me to smile. He performed like there were 20,000 people to a crowd of maybe 50 or less and he was genuinely concerned that I was having a good time. He was so kind to me and in a completely non-pervy way,. I will always respect and admire him for that. He was a genuinely kind hearted person. It is heart breaking the way he died. Thank you for acknowledging him in such a kind way❤

There's a video of Jani talking about "Cherry Pie" and he said that he always hated that song.
    Watch it. It's hilarious.
