    I bought the Ascend 128x. 450 lbs capacity. Between my kayak and my wife’s, and that little floating cooler, I’m convinced that we could get some camping done on the back side of the local big water lake. We could avoid the crowds like that. Now, to convince my wife that it’s feasible……

    I have the biolight stove 2 and the Stanley pot and I love it best thing I bought the cotton ball and vasoline I make a lot of them and put in a waterproof pill bottle so there ready when you need them I don't use a lighter only flint steel love the video

      thank you. I'm going camping on a small inland lake. I'm going to bring some wood pellets and try them in the biolight stove. I used to make the fire starters like you did but I find it just as easy to dip them in the Vaseline. but I flipped the kayak one time and didn't close the water proof bag enough times and the cotton balls got wet. so I'm thinking about doing both. have some premade like you did. thanks for commenting

      yooper survival hey by the way the wood pellets works great fill the biolight stove with 2 and half cups full use the vasoline cotton balls and a few sticks so it gets going the fire will last close to a hour depends on the fan speed do you have the biolight grill that comes with the bundle I love mine and I highly recommend if you don't have one

    Interesting video, thanks! However, I would never put my sleeping bag/blanket into the boat protected from water only by that contractor's bag. One little tear will wet your sleeping blanket and ruin your trip. There are so many great dry bags in all sorts of sizes, it doesn't make sense to just throw your sleeping gear and clothes in a bag with tents, stoves and other stuff. Interesting video, though. That little kayak cooler is pretty cool. I recommend you tie it to your kayak using a quick-release knot. There are lots of situations where, even with a short leash, you can quickly find yourself in trouble towing anything behind a kayak. Thanks for the cool video!

    • @yoopersurvival
      @yoopersurvival  5 лет назад +5

      Catherine Townsend I do agree with you but don’t get the cheap bags. Get the contractors bag. I have a new kayak the Ascend H-10. Every thing is in a dry bag now. But if your just starting out and money is tight. This is an inexpensive way to go.

    Check this:
    Take a piece of hard plastic, bend it long ways making a hinge however long you need.
    Then take a heat gun n warm it up at each location of your clamps. Put clamp on and let it create a "lock" at each point. Now you should have a more water tight seal with the bag.

    I would make a rigid tow line using 2 pieces of small diameter pvc pipe of equal length with rope fed through it and attached to two separate points on both the kayak and cooler. Also keep it as short as possible, ideally just enough clearance so it can move with the waves as you go over them.

      I don't think they say it is animal proof. but you have to unscrew the lid to open it. I'm not sure you might have to go to their website. sorry I don't have the answer for you

      Hey bud, I'm ready to go. trying to get a few people together to do the Two hearted river. summer is starting to fade away. got a few people hooked on Manistee floats up here LOL. I didn't have any time to talk about fishing equipment. video was longer then I wanted it to be. if I didn't say (ahh) 100 times I would have had lots of time. maybe I will paint R2D2 on the side. take care bud, text you later

    Great video. I love the contractor bag idea. Do you find that your dry bags tend to sweat on the inside when it's hot out? I just got my tent the other day and will be doing some camping soon.

      your making me jealous, were in winter up here everything is frozen. I have been without power for almost a week. just turned back on last night. I never noticed any sweat in my dry bags, but the river we kayak is very low compared to the banks which are mostly high hills. 90 degrees on top of the hills only feels like 70 degrees where were kayaking.

    How effective is the Biolite for charging your phone? I have read mixed reviews. Say, during a 40 minute dinner prep, is that enough time to charge a phone?

      Explorer Mike when it works it’s great. When it’s not working great it’s a awesome mosquito repellent. Nothing but smoke. Lol u have to put a pot of water on it or it won’t charge and probably around an hour you have to dump out ashes and start again. My personal feelings. I wouldn’t leave home without it. Hope this helps

    • @yoopersurvival
      @yoopersurvival  5 лет назад +1

      Mark Penalora two days at the most. Most of our main meals were egg hobo breakfast. And hobo steak or brats hobo dinners. Which we wrapped in tinfoil then vacuum sealed. Then we froze them. I would say by the second night stuff was cold but not frozen

      in the video I'm using the old town 10'6 Dirigo, I love this kayak. I bought the ascend 10' which is half kayak half canoe. it is amazing for river trips. you can haul so much more gear. its almost June the leaves are just starting on the trees and I still haven't went kayaking yet. water is so cold.

    I am surprised you can get a full camp of equipment into that small kayak. I sea kayak with a 20' kayak and that gets full.

      20’ now that’s a kayak. The wife and I want some 14’ to go out on Lake Superior. I didn’t know they made them that long. This old town is really wide. not like a sea kayak which is really narrow. I bought the ascend 10’ and it’s amazing. Holds up to 350 pounds. I’m going to do a video on it this spring if our snow ever goes away. Lol. Thanks for commenting. Do u have a video with your kayak. I would love to check it out.
