Another pattern for all future early Beatle albums was also established that day. John got a majority of the lead vocals. John had been nursing a very sore throat all day, sucking on throat lozenges and drinking glasses of milk to get him through what must have been a very painful day.
Another interesting video, thanks. I didn't get a copy of this L.P. until 1980, the year I turned 13 and still have the same copy. You're right about it not charting straight away: released March 22nd, it hit number one in the UK w/c May 11th, for 30 weeks, then being replaced by With The Beatles, w/c December 7th. Interesting about The Shadows; when Please P!ease Me hit #1, it replaced the 'Summer Holiday' soundtrack by Cliff & The Shadows (#1, 14 weeks) and before that, The Shadows 'Out Of The Shadows' (#1, 2 weeks). My 17 year-old son bought a 1963 mono copy last year too. Timeless band. Keep up the brilliant, informative videos. Thanks.
I admire your passion, dedication as well as your narrative abilities in doing all these constructive videos, based on historical facts and details about our most beloved "The Beatles". The same goes for your music! I really thank you and I wish you all the best luck always!
I like this series, fun to learn these little facts. I like please please me, I think it's a great sounding little album for a at the time brand new band
I love this series and your new album. And I’m from Liverpool but my accent isn’t that strong so when my friend turned to me today and said, “you sound like one of the Beatles” I almost died from happiness right there😂💙
I love your work on these videos! Thanks for doing these they have become some of my favorites. Also, I know how you feel about being kind of lost in the shuffle amongst all of the music out there. After doing music for over 40 years I have only one song that did anything and that was not much of a much. A lot of my early stuff has never seen the light of day. I hope to change that by getting it on Spotify along with my new stuff that's up there already. Still, if I can convince a few people to give it a chance that's good enough. Good luck with your music....Keep playing and keep doing these great videos!!
You have the perfect platform to work in some of your songs. Or just put some on RUclips and reference them in your info. Thanks for making and posting these great videos...always nice knowing more about the groups we enjoyed.
This album features my two favorite songs of all time, regardless of group... Twist And Shout (my all time favorite song ever) Please Please Me (my second favorite song ever)
Another fun fact about this album is the Beatles had to use their own instruments for recording, and you can hear Ringo's kick drum pedal squeaking on a few tracks. For me it's most notable on "Anna (Go to Him)".
Great video as always! Have you ever considered doing videos on some of the great solo outputs of the Beatles? I recently listened to a podcast going through all of McCartneys discography, and a lot of these stories behind the songs are really fascinating.
@@JamesMaharajOfficial What a great choice! 1970 was a great year with solo releases from all four Beatles as well as Let it be! Must have beeen a great time to be a Beatles fan. (Except for the breakup of course)
You are seriously one of the best music channels on all of RUclips and one of my overall favourites in general. Few upload notifications make me as exited. Keep it up! :)
Having so many "streams" counts for NOTHING! Having the physical record there in your hands, reading the label and noting every detail of it, seeing that big 45 in the top-right portion of the the black Parlophone label and the catalogue number under it, seeing the publishing credit printed there on the left of the label with the matrix number under it and the "Recording First Published...." year-date, and then seeing below the punch-out optional centre, the song title with your name as composer in brackets, then your name as performer in bolder print under that, with the copyright warning around the edge beginning with "The Parlophone Co. I just got some teeth pulled out and it hurts so bad, I'm on the verge of crying all the time. My pills aren't working yet, they will soon. Your voice calmed me down so much, thank you so much....
I was touched by your remark about your feelings about this being the first time in your life that you're being heard. Many of us have a moment like that and it is fulfilling. PS, Helen Shapiro really was gorgeous wasn't she?
I saw on a BBC documentary that they didn’t intentionally save Twist and Shout for last. It was actually that they had decided to drop one of the songs they tried to record that day (I think “Hold Me Tight”) and so had to come up with another song to replace it. On a break, one of the EMI staff mentioned how he liked their rendition of “La Bamba” that he had heard them play on the radio. George said, “You mean, Twist and Shout?” and based on that short discussion they added it to the end of the recording session.
I really enjoy your album. I can't really explain what it is about it. Perhaps somewhat of a style I enjoy but there's also something more about it. Good job.
Def in my top 4 Beatles albums. Sgt peppers, revolver, rubber soul, please please me. However every album with except MAYBE let it be are among my top albums of all time.
Another fact: in that marathon session, 11 songs were put to tape, but one didn’t make the final cut, which is an early version of Hold Me Tight. The song was re-record a couple of months later for the With The Beatles album, but that early version has never surfaced due to the fact that according to Mark Lewisohn, the master tape was either taped over or destroyed.
I like "Introducing The Beatles." It's a fun album. I have 2 of the bootleg LPs and one authentic, but for some reason, I like how the bootlegs sound. They have this older tone. Almost like back in the day be like, "yo I got dat new Beatles homie! They were all sold out of the originals, but I got these bootlegs though! The Beatles!" Lol. But my favorite song on there is "Do You Want To Know A Secret." Those doo daa doos with strong reverb, ah yeah
Yes, The Shadows were the biggest group in the UK before the Beatles. The Shadows were a fantastic instrumental group featuring Hank Marvin on lead guitar. However, The Shadows focus was on instrumentals tracks which eventually limited their appeal in face of the British invasion bands. It was not until the late 60s that they really concentrated on vocal tracks.
@@JamesMaharajOfficial Thank you! These little mini-docs on the LPs are great! Been watching 1 or 2 the last few nights. Now my entire feed is Beatles stuff. 🙄
Another interesting fact, regarding the lack of time & money. It relates to Ask Me Why on the album. Quote : "The Beatles production was too tight to allow for 2nd thoughts. Even 'dropping in' to erase a small mistake (such as the guitar fluff at 1.26)". A quote from the book, Revolution In The Head, by Ian Macdonald. You can hear the "fluff", made by George, on both the album & single. Such a thing would be unthinkable nowadays, with digital recording/editing facilities, even on the tightest of budgets.
It nearly had nine original songs on it - "Hold Me Tight" was recorded for this album but they couldn't quite get it together. So, given the time pressure, they moved on.
I recently read a book called The Beatles: The Biography which spoke of the song Twist and Shout. It states that they needed one more song for the record (yes, I said record). They chose Twist and Shout to fill that space. John was suffering from a terrible cold at the time, but did it anyway. He did drink lots of milk to help soothe his throat, but today we know that milk is not a good idea for singers because of the amount of mucus it creates. I always noticed the cracking in his voice when I listened to this song. Once I read the book, it made sense why it sounded that way. He sounded like someone with a cold trying to sing. For Beatles fans, I highly recommend the book. It is close to 1000 pages on Kindle, but well worth it.

🌀 Rare fact: Throughout the album (except on I Saw Her Standing There) the Höfner bass guitar A-string is slightly out of tune (A=432 Hz). 🤔🙂
@Klaus Toth He just said it as an interesting fact.
Klaus Toth 😂 Isaac was so concerned for you 😂👏🏻. Well done sir.
Hofner’s are nearly impossible to intonate. Probably in tune with an open A and by the time you get to the seventh fret it’s out. Good ear!
