- In this tutorial video for Planet Zoo I show you How to fix keepers not feeding animals in your Zoo, as this is a known problem where keepers take too long to refill animal feeders leading to starving animals. I cover the topic of how to set up work zones, assign keepers to each work zone to give them individual jobs that they will do with more effectiveness and also making your Zoo more efficient and requiring fewer staff because of the usefulness of work zones.

What is your experience with this problem of keepers not feeding animals properly ?
They've supposed to have fixed it but both me and the missus have problems with them trolling us. :/
i buy the game last day and still get this probleme is just "sometime" put food in like one feeder and after leave....
How many keepers per habitat do you have? And how close is their hut to the habitat?
I lost an entire enclosure of albino peacocks because of it.
Still an issue. One keeper assigned to feed one enclosure and only feed. 89% idle time, animals still starving.
This is not a fix. I have litteraly 1 animal pen in my zoo, with 4 peafowls in it and they just will not feed them. I need to call them 4 times in 3 minutes before they finally show up. Even if I hire 5 keepers they will not feed more frequently. I cannot believe the devs have not fixed this yet.
Hello Kristian and welcome to my channel. This is a fix for it, but your setup and problem sound more like bugged feeders. Try deleting all the food items, regular and enrichment. Saving the game. Quit and restart the game. Then load your zoo and place only one feeder. Use work zones to make only one keeper be responsible for that feeder. Check back here and tell me how it worked out.
Fun fact, I'm currently having this same issue. Looks like the devs really dislike patching
I will never understand what is the problem with solving this issue.
This still isn't fixed and it's so frustrating
I know. I honestly don't understand the developers... pushing out the Nth DLC but can't solve a launch day issue.
Yup its a shame this bug still exists...
Hello wolf and welcome to my channel! Thank you for letting me know. It's quite sad this keeps being a thing a year after the release date. It's one of the reasons I rarely play this game as I don't want my work and effort to be ruined or become unplayable if I get to a point no fix works.
Nopp, I have a zoo with about 4 animals and 4 exhibits, I have divided each worker for each cage and even bought in extra workers and keeper huts. I have 11 workers and huts way to many huts, i even try to replacing the positions on the keeper huts, but it wont work. I feel like the AI dont know what they are doing, the system is not responding like it should. The developers needs to work on this problem ASAP because its frustrating and dont make any sense, there is no logic to this problem no solution available at the moment.
Have you tried saving the game with no feeders at all. Restarting the game. And then put back the feeders one by one. And only when they get refilled to add food enrichment?
@@perafilozof Do you think this is the point of the game? I dislike games that force you to fix the game. ill w8 for an update
@@Bamboos_Channel This is standard for simulation management games. I have yet to play one, no mater how simple or complex that hasn't had issues or problems months after launch with core gameplay. Even Google will always auto fill and suggest searches with problems or errors for these kinds of games. Once you get used to the that, you don't even blink when it all happens in the next game.
I use work zones and still doesn’t work or fixed feeders - I heard it was the feeder specialisations removed then then they feed main feeders but if you add them back they don’t fill main feeders - cannot believe they haven’t fixed this yet even -at end of 2021
Hello Lone_GamerUK and welcome to my channel. The fact that they haven't fix the problem only means they don't know how. What I can advise is removing all feeders, saving the game. Quiting to desktop. Restart the game and add only one type of feeders.
so according to frontier via my support ticket you have to have keeper buildings near your habitats in order for them to prepare foods for that habitat
Yup, that is part of the solution. But that keeper has to be in charge of a habitat that is near so he doesn't get lost in the Zoo getting to the habitat.
@@perafilozof yeah i upgraded 2 keepers to level 2 to manage 3 habitats a piece if i micro them at all it breaks the ai and i have to restart. if not they handle their jobs well.
@@bravozero6 Wait, 2 keepers for 6 habitats? Yes, that is asking too much from the AI. You need to streamline their jobs, their paths and reduce their work load.
@@perafilozof yeah i noticed 2 per keeper (level 2) is good enough with mixed habitats 3 habitats was a bit much lol
Today I found another thing that causes a bug. Sometimes the keeper hut will glitch out a zookeeper, and they'll get caught in an animation loop where they do all the actions of preparing food, but the food itself will be invisible, and they'll keep doing it indefinitely. Because the keeper is technically preparing food, the other keepers will label the habitat as taken care of and won't feed the animals.
The only fix is to delete the keeper hut and make a new one.
Hello Josiе R, that is a great find, thank you for letting me know. Could you by any chance send me a save file of that happening, screenshot pr a video? I would love to see it, test it and show it on my channel. Of course I will credit you for finding it.
@@perafilozof I'll see if I can get it to happen again and screenshot it.
@@perafilozof ruclips.net/video/bt5G10QW2o0/видео.html
Here's a video I took of it happening. You're free to use it however you like. Also the glitch only seems to happen in large keeper huts.
Hi, thank you very much for this video evidence. I will make sure to put it to good use!
@@Iominia Hmm Ive had in two small keeper huts side by side :/ I deleted them and put a big one. Ugh Im so stressed out about my endangered species starving T__T
Already have workzones and huts nearby. Even keepers that solely work is to feed and other are set to clean. Does not work
Hi Nicky, have your tried this out: Start by deleting all feeders and food enrichment items. Save the game. Quit. Load back in. Set up work zones, delete if there are previous ones for keepers and habitats. And then add new feeders and only after those are filed add food enrichment.
I hope they fix this problem fast nothing I do fixes it =_=
I have a problem with all my timber wolves starving to death. I built huts near the habitat and I assigned a work zone, yet it doesn't work. What do I need to do?
Did you manually assign the keepers from those huts to that work zone? How many feeders do you have in that habitat? How many are food enrichment and how many regular? What are the keepers doing when not feeding you wolves?
nvm I think I fixed it. It turns out that no one was apparently assigned to the habitat. No idea why, but hopefully my wolves aren't too mad from my irresponsibility XD. Anyway thank you. I'll let you know if I do find anymore problems. :)
I am glad you found and fix the problem!
This was very helpful

In my game the Keepers still dont feed the aniamals and when they eventaully do tjey dont put it in the feeder they just dump it onto the ground
Hello DinoBroof, and welcome to my channel. Here is something you can try. Delete all the feeders, save the game. Completely exit the game. To Windows. Start up the game again, load up your zoo and add just one feeder. Watch what happens.
@@perafilozof That might work but Ive also discovered that the keepers seem to replenish the feeders only when the animal hunger goes down(which should not take as long as it does)
@@dinobroofmf The times scale is a bit off in the game. But simulations often have this issue.
I had a problem with a single, large mixed animals habitat in which they all starved... My workzone had only the that habitat, three keepers, the large hut and the staff room :c
And the keepers never visited that habitat? How many feeders and food enrichment items did you have?
@@perafilozof i did some digging, apparently it's some AI bug that the keepers only fill the food enrichments and not the feeders, and since it's a big safari place with tons of animals, each with their own enrichments, the keepers never ever fill my feeders :c
@@NotAndOption that is why I always ask people about enrichment items. One thing that I noticed which helps is removing all of the, and the regular feeders. Save. Close game. Load back up, place one kind, wait for it to be filled then add back in the second kind.
Can u tell me where did you took the hippopotamus enclosure in the work shop? The enclosure on the left at 0:10
Yes. It's called Hippo habitat.
@@perafilozof thx man
@@messirrthebest You are welcome!
it works... a little bit. But mostly they put some food and then forget about it again
Hi and thank you for the feedback. There have been a few known issues why this happens. So my usual advise is to remove all bugged food items first. Close the game, restart and add just a single food item back and wait to see what happens.
nice video thank you
Thanks! Share it to your fiends if they have run into the same problem.
Hi, i had a problem, in sandbox when i call a zookeper he dont full the Feeder of my tiger and buffalo, just the stimulation and water, I make the new zone of work but he doesnt full the feeder, what I do?
Hello Arthur :v and welcome to my channel! When you say stimulation you are referring to food enrichment? Correct ? If that is the case, then you should know that keepers will prioritize on food enrichment over regular feeders. What you would have to do is lower the overall number of items for the keeper to fill or add another keeper. Please get back to me after you thy these fixes!
@@perafilozof well its true, I have a lot of estimulation of food, Im going to try
@@perafilozof Hi, i do it but its still the zookepers dont full the feeder, What I do? Estimulation is food enquiriment (toys)
@@Arthur-op8ed Next, what you can try is deleting all the food items. Saving the game. Quit. Start up the game. Load the Zoo. Place one at a time.
@@perafilozof hello, yeah, now the zookepers full the feeder, thank you.
I delete all the stimulation food, did I have to put it again?
I have the issue of keepers not putting food in the food trough and any feeding item they just chuck it on the floor?
Hello Bouva and welcome to my channel. Usually you cna clear this problem by removing feeders , saving the game and quiting to windows. And then reloading
Help please, my keepers WON’T enter the habitats, vets and mechanics can enter the habitats with out problem, but keepers can’t... I’ve built new paths with worker paths and moves the door around but nothing, help please!
Did you set the workzones like the video shows? Are keepers set to work in that exact habitat inside that work zone? Can they exit the keeper hut, is there maybe a bug with the path from the keepers home?
thought it was supposed to be patched a long while ago but it keeps coming back. Playing in campaign mode will give this and the suggestions you've made to others in the comments a try
but hey you got a subscriber from it
- Maybe with the coming update/patch they'll fix this? (doubt it but here's hoping)
Hello Redmarion3tt3 and welcome to my channel. Thank you for the sub! I hope you will enjoy my other videos, I do make a vide verity on strategy games.
From the comments I would conclude that the mix of those tips and those from the video players managed to solve the problem.
Honestly if they didn't fix it in this many years....
I've found out that different animals eat from different food bowls, how do you know which animals use which bowls?
Hello angivaxxnugs, and welcome to my channel. Can you just tell me are you asking about individual animas in the same habitat and same species. Or are you asking about different species inside the same habitat?
When you are in the habitat tab, there is a search tab on the top that let's you filter by species (it also let's you filter by theme, continent, biome etc.)
Just find the species you are building for and it will find the appropriate feeder for you as well as enrichment items :)
This game was expensive and sooo many things just aren't even explained in the tutorial... I don't understand what you are doing so I'm still stuck... I'm scared to do anything because I don't know what to do and I don't want to mess everything up. I am is sad. This is a lot more stress then I was expecting.☹️
Hello B ROCKismyhero, and welcome to my channel. I would like to help you out, can you tell me which step of process in the video are you having a problem with?
my salt water crocs were going to die thanks for saving my crccs
You are quite welcome! I am glad to be able to help!
Hey bro why people never takes seat on picnic tables or large chairs ?
Hello JohnneyTigre and welcome to my channel. To my knowledge they do so to eat or drink. Do you have food and drinks sold next to those objects?
This doesn't work. My keeper hut is across the door from each habitat. Every single one is workzoned to its own habitat. No pathing issues, took away enrichment feeders, moved them closer to the door. I can't even put them in the trading centre for a fast feed as the hundreds of bug work arounds suggest. Why on earth is there zero fix for this after 4 years of bug reports on it.
Because the developers are busy making DLCs. And people keep buying them.
I just bought this game on ps5 and this is happening 😄
Jesus... I guess the developers have been too busy making DLCs for the past several years to fix game breaking bugs. Christ... I am sorry to read that. Hope this helps you to fix it.
I keep running into issues where my Vet cannot access a habitat. Keepers are able to walk in and out of the habitat, and I will call for a vet to the work zone, but they won't go near it. It's really frustrating
Hello blinnlambert and welcome to my channel. That is a strange isssue, I haven't heard about such a problem before. What does the info panel of the vet say after you call him?
My Zoo keepers feed them, but they drop the food on the ground instead of putting it in the fish feeder. I have it at the right depth and it glows orange in the heat maps (is this a problem?). It’s really annoying because I want to see the aquatic animals feed.
I must admit not having played with the aquatic animals so I am not sure about their feeders. But from the experience of other players if keepers drop food on the ground inside a habitat it means they can't get to the feeder.
@@perafilozof Ok, thank you 👌🏻
Every time I add a new habitat they refuse to give food even if it’s empty with only a food bowl and animal
Hi Isabelle, did you give a keeper that habitat as an exclusive job?
@@perafilozof hi I'm not the commentor but yes. The hut is right near the habitat and the workzone only contains a hut, staff room, and the habitat
@@xenonsan3110 Ok. Did you try one of the advice I gave here on a few other comments: "delete the food and water treys, save. Quit game. Start the game, load up the save and place them again." ?
@@perafilozof no. I have tried placing a new one, quiting, then reloading though. Not deleting the old one. I'm sure it's ok if I just have alot of food enrichment. None of my animals are hungry. They refill those, just not food trays
@@xenonsan3110 i have been under the impression that the keeper AI has a bug that makes them get stuck on specific feeders and as long as those are qued up they can't do any of the same kind of interactions/jobs.
i did this and my keeper still dont bring food they only do enrichments and even if i make multiply feeder spots they never use it even when i make it so they come 1 a month?
Hello donaconda and welcome to my channel. Have you tried to remove all types of feeders. Save. Exit game to windows. Start it up and place just one new feeder?
@@perafilozof I will try this when I get home from work ty for the idea
No problem. Let me know if it helps.
I think that worked ty
@@donaconda5369 That is great to hear! I am happy to help.
This is still glitched for me. Ive Tried what you have Said but it’s still not Working, ive tried what you have Said in the comments it still does not work.
So you tried it with just one food item per habitat and quit the game to operating system then back to the Game? In that case I can only guess your keepers are buged. Are they doing other jobs?
@@perafilozof i somehow fixed it i really dont know how but yeah my game fixed. I Think it was because i turned the welfare setting off and Then on again.
If you recreate the situation and solution do let me know in a comment. I am glad you managed to fix your issue.
@@perafilozof sure👍
Mine don't fill the bowl, but animals are still fed?
Do the animals eat from toys which contain food?
but my animals arent being fed. i even click on teh food tray. the dude just comes over. pulls out an ipad and walks away
Hello Elion and welcome to my channel. Is the animal hungry? How many food trays are there in the habitat? Have you set up dedicated work zones?
If you have that 'bug' where your animals are starving, and your keeper enter the habitat but dont bother feeding the starving animals, clic on the keeper and look at his "thoughts". if it is mentionned "..those animals dont look hungry..", that means that the keeper sees food on a food enrichment item in the habitat and comes to that conclusion. Try to locate that item and delete it. For me it is often a block of frozen food that the animals dont want that causes the issue.
@@SR-fw8og Hello S R and thank you for adding your tip !
Nice tutorial on zoning, but doesn't say anything about or try to give solutions for the bug.
Hello Human, and welcome to my channel. The causes for the feeding bug have been found to be multitude since this video was made but this is a solution and aid in at least one of them. Another helpful things is as I wrote to other comments, delete all feeders. Save the game. Quit to OS desktop. Load up the game again and place one feeder per habitat in question to observe keeper's work in refilling them.
My zoo keepers just dont recognize the feeders, its like i have none. They put food in the others things but not in the feeders.
Hello Pauli, and welcome to my channel. There is an order in which they fill items with food. I would advise reducing the number of feeders and other items which are filed with food. Let me know how it goes and we will find more ideas
@@perafilozof yeah i tried that 😅 i took everything out and let just one feeder and it still didnt work. I closed it and opened the game again, lets see of its solved 👀
Nope
Ah dam. When you follow a keeper, does he do everything normally? Go to his shack, prepare food, exits, goes to a habitat closes to him or one set as his work zone, delivers food? Or does his animation bug out and he prepares invisible food?
I have a habit in 2 differnet work zones, ALL the animals are hungry, i call the keeper, they show up, THEY LITERALLY SAY "THE ANIMALS ARE NOT HUNGRY" trash ass game.
Hi Dragonflame, welcome to the channel! Did you try one of the advice I gave here on a few other comments: "delete the food and water treys, save. Quit game. Start the game, load up the save and place them again." ?
Holy hell, this game sounds so buggy, I'm surprised I haven't run into any major bugs yet
You would be even more surprised to hear that most of the bugs are from day 1 and and haven't been fixed in 20 months after release. But... they did have time to publish half a dozen DLCs in that time. It's one of the main reasons I stopped making videos about Planet Zoo. I had high hopes but the way developers approached post launch makes me sick.
@@perafilozof damn, I'm surprised that the devs found the motivation to create so many packs and even though there were still so many complaints about bugs still in the game. In my opinion, this is truly a good game (but this is probably my bias opinion because I bought this game in 2021 and bugs are probably fixed) that is really held back by the amount of bugs that exists
I know... it's a shame.
This game mechanic its totaly trash.
I agree it needs work. It was half baked at launch and it has only gotten to the point of playable.
Doesent work for me
Hello MrHogzor. You can try another fix. Remove all water bowls and feeders from the habitat. Save the game. Quit. Start it up again. Load, place one water and one feeder in the habitat. Wait to see if it works out, then add another one until they stop getting refiled. At that point remove the one you placed last.
perafilozof thanks for the quick reply. I will try that thanks.
My caretakers aren’t cleaning animal poop
Hi, have you checked the interface which shows each workers area? So they have a direct path?
MY KEEPERS FEED THEM BUT MY ANIMALS WONT EAT IT
That is usualy a problem with too many feaders or toy feaders bugging out the Animals. Remove all feaders, toy versions too, save, quite to desktop. Load up and add just one regular one.
They still don’t feed the animals
You might need to remove all the feeders, save, restart the game and then load and place them back in.
perafilozof I haven’t tried that, but usually I wait a few days then they start feeding them properly
Didnt work
Alright, how many habitats do you have? How many keepers? How many feeders and food enrichment items?
@@perafilozof hey there, so i only had one and it wouldnt work but randomly out of nowhere they suddenly decided to feed the grizzly bears, so we than moved them them to another exhibit and replaced them with another animal now they zookeepers wont feed any of them and refuse to be fixed after multiple hours of trying, thabks for the video tho i wish there was a lb easy fix for it :(
@@C0MMANDERnCHIEF If I where playing your game I would start by deleting all feeders and food enrichment items. Save the game. Quit. Load back in.
