  • Whether you bump your knee and instantly put a hand on it, or you kiss the boo boo of a child, both of these take advantage of the Gate Control Theory of Pain. In this video, I'll show you why and how that works, as well as why our senses are kind of whack to begin with.

    Hi, I’m Patrick. I’m a freelance science writer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training and a master’s in clinical exercise physiology. I used to work in the clinical setting as a certified athletic trainer, physical therapy aide, and a certified strength and conditioning specialist. After working in the clinical setting, I went back to school and became a teacher. The goal of my content is to help normal people, not just pre-med students, learn about the human body. That might mean explaining a topic from an anatomy class or exploring a topic from medical history.

    Like how you explained it but just wondering, aren't A beta fibers mechanoreceptors not A delta?

    • @Corporis
      @Corporis  5 лет назад +4

      Hi Patricia: Totally, that's a wording error on my part and I should've clarified that. A-delta fibers are a myelinated and wider diameter which makes them conduct faster than thin diameter, unmyelinated C fibers. Other than the mechanoreceptor label for Ad fibers, the diagram is still usable. Thank you for pointing that out!

    i do not believe in the gate control theory, to me it is just a theory and in practice it does not relieve pain.
