I've seen a newspaper illustration from the 1910s which depicted how many tons of coal was needed to fuel the RMS Mauretania for just one transatlantic crossing, showing the number of rail coal cars necessary to bring all that fuel to the dock (I think it came to 6000t), and of course immediately thought of how less than 50 lbs. of HEU is needed to power a typical nuclear submarine for thirty years.
