    If she was american the whole world would be having a seizure over this 16 year old girl. She barely made it into the team but she came in and slayed it. She didn't even seem happy after the performance, her teammate had to cheer her up. Can you guys actually put into perspective her achievement? I mean common. First Olympics, first medal at 16, over arguably the greatest gymnast Simone Biles. The least people should do is remember her name and share her accomplishment.

Plus I’ve both noticed and heard others complain about how little screen time non-American gymnasts (and athletes in general) have received throughout the Olympics, which sucks because growing up so many of my favorite gymnasts and the most decorated weren’t American.

The sport journalist should focus more on the performances and on the athletes even if not well known...they work hard and nobody cares about them...what a pity...sport is something else in my opinion (for ex. Look at the athletes of the female triple jump or the male high jump...how they feasted and cheered for each other....this is what sports mean...not hollywood gossip like journalism

    It’s a shame that we don’t see more of executions like this on beam. It’s like they forget that there’s more elegance in the sport than just tumbling.

    • @dw999
      @dw999 2 года назад +29

      No one "forgets" that elegance is a desirable component; rather, some gymnasts are more graceful than others, not least because of body type. A shorter, thicker body (like that of Mary Lou Retton or Simone Biles) is never going to be able to create the same long, lithe lines that this gymnast, or Nadia Liukin could. You see it in skaters, too -- and there's a reason why ballet dancers are always exceptionally thin.

    • @bobkataviation3967
      @bobkataviation3967 2 года назад +19

      @@dw999 Women's gymnastics has changed. Korbat, Nadia, Bogenskia, Korkina, Mukina, Fallitova, Yang Bo, Miller, Lashenova, Siliva's, Shaushenovia, Pokepiva, Kim, Terishivia, Nagusu, among others totally owned elegance in the sport. Today it's geared to more about strength and tumbling. The more tumbling execution the higher the score. It's changed. Granted if the elegance comes with it, it's bonus score.

      We like to deny it but Gymnastics looks better when you have a petite small frame. Easier to make light quick elegant movements. Unfortunately most women are not built that way and too many women in the sport were having eating disorders to stay small (even Nadia and Olga did) so it is rare to see routines like this compared to the past nowadays. I prefer the look of old school gymnastics when they were chosen because they were naturally tiny. Even gymnasts today admit it is easier to execute moves when you are light and petite. It strictly is a sport for people with an unusually small slim but strong body type.
