    The USA has a lot of barrier islands relative to other countries. Did those islands provide a significant positive impact on early colonial and later trade and local development?

      No, they're shallow and very dangerous for oceangoing ships

    Oh my goodness, then many islands in the Caribbean would be considered barrier islands especially those with salt ponds and dunes.
