Our spring season isn't here where we are located yet but those are still very good tips! We are still covered in snow even after our winter check which we made a video about. Hopefully you have a fantastic season!
Hey Jason you can tap more than just maple trees. Walnut trees too. Beech as well. I am glad I am in Florida. My bees haven't taken a day off yet. I have 2 super strong hives.

Nice snow. lol. We got 5” Wednesday. Before the snow, I found a double ten frame deep I could lift with two fingers. I opened it yesterday and it had one frame of honey left. Got them loaded up with sugar cakes and pollen patties.
People nare really skeptical to what you place in your hive to kill mites. I harvested a small swarm of bees for the commencing of this year. I will do the sugar mites cleansing instead of using poison.
A very nice list of things to be doing. Here in Northwestern Massachusetts I set up any new yards normally by the end of October because it's not uncommon for us to still have snow in late April and early May. And in February the ground is still frozen solid so leveling out any stands would be quite hard. Excellent information my friend and as always thanks for sharing.

@@JCsBees what we're seeing here in Northwestern Massachusetts is the ground will freeze up and then we get warm days with snow and rain and it softens right back up. Thanks. What is it your having a hard time with maybe I can help? I know a couple Florida beekeepers that make videos but not videos telling new beekeepers what they should be doing and when. I would think you would be adding pollen patties now to boost brood production, are you doing that? How many hives do you have?
Our bees never really hibernate down here in central florida. I'm looking for Information how to care for bees in this region over the winter so they are healthy for the Spring
What else can be used besides OA in the hives when temps are not as warm or on a consistent temperature. I’ve used apiguard does well in summer just not sure if it would be effective in early spring temperatures.
I have a hive with a 2” spacer on the top for feed. The bees have eaten all of the sugar and have filled it with comb. Should I clean it out now or wait for warmer weather?
Good video, Jason. Thanks for the tip on beeslist.org, I have some stuff to sell. I’m from New Hampshire now living in eastern Washington. I remember sugar season fondly; mud season, frost heaves and potholes not so much.
Hi Jason, I have a OA question for you: Can you vaporize OA while you have sugar up on the top bars? I have a couple hives I just put sugar in to help them out. Your thoughts? Thank you.
Sure it's safe! The reason you have to remove supers when you oa treat is due to human consumption not that the oa will harm the bees if they eat it after treating.
