- United Trip Report flying from Honolulu to San Francisco onboard one of the United Boeing 777 on a lovely winter afternoon.
An amazing flight from Honolulu to San Francisco onboard the United Airlines Boeing 777-200ER. This was my first time flying from Honolulu and I must say that I was impressed. I watched some Trip Reports before this flight and I knew more or less what to expect. Well, it was more than excellent. The views of Honolulu on takeoff and the island were some of the best I ever had.
But if I would have to highlight something above everything that would be Honolulu airport itself. I promise that I've never seen something like this. I loved the huge amount of open-air spaces that the airport has, offering plenty of views of the apron. It's a very recognizable airport; when you are at Honolulu airport you know that you are in Hawaii.
About the onboard service, United only offers a complimentary small snack (pretzels or 2 biscuits) and a drink on this flight. However, United has a buy-onboard menu, with not so many options, but those available are great. I decided to buy the Chicken Salad and the Cheese-Bacon Burger. They both were amazing. Fresh and tasty. I wonder why United is the only airline offering something like this... the plane wasn't full and the catering for purchase was sold out.
Talking about the route, we took off from Honolulu airport heading to the city and the mountains. Following the standard departure, we made an immediate right turn to fly in parallel to the coastline, which gave us some perfect views of Honolulu and the rest of the island. It lasted just for some minutes, but the views during those were perfect.
We left Hawaii behind us and flew directly to San Francisco. Before getting to SFO, and when still on cruise, we enjoyed a really nice Sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Already in the night, we flew through an area of intense turbulence that made us descent to not approach the limits of the plane. We landed at San Francisco airport, already in the night, after an amazing approach over the city and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Once at the gate, the airbridges didn't work, o we had to wait for almost 40 minutes until they fixed them and we could disembark.
Now it's your turn!
Have you ever flown with United? How was the experience? Which model did you fly? Have you ever flown on a Boeing 777? Have you ever been in Honolulu? Maybe in San Francisco? What do you think about the onboard service? Should the other airlines copy the United catering service?
Lots of things to talk about! Read you all in the comments!

Never seen a flight do burgers before.. sounds interesting and a cool flight!
Me neither to be honest, and I must say it was really tasty (within the limits of what an airplane food can offer) :)
Me too. I’ve never seen a flight that serves burgers.
Me neither but it was not complimentary, so maybe it is a thing.
On some flights Qatar Airways is offering small burgers in business class as a "light option" (very tasty!).
Same trip about 20 years ago, SFO/HNL and back. Same United but with a DC10Z aircraft. In outbound way i remember 4 houors of turbolence!
You got a rare treat to land on the 19's. I have flown into and out of SFO dozens of times over the years and only have had that happen 1 time. SFO always features a beautiful arrival and departure, the scenery is awesome.
Yeah, the wind was on the direction for setting this rwy configuration.
Maybe there were even some storms around...
Feliz finde! :D
Yea I flew it twice I was impressed with united
You might like to note that Australia & New Zealand are also Countrie's where it's people also enjoy holidaying in the Hawaiian Islands too,me being one of them.,that burger looked yummy.Awesome ✈flight report dude👍
Thanks for the info. I dind't see so many planes from those areas, but there were some flights to Sidney, yep :)
Hey! Glad you got a chance to visit & upload this trip report! When UA finally upgrades their aircraft that does EWR-HNL (Currently operated by a B764), you should definitely give that a go! I did that a few years back!
@OnBoardHD Thanks for another great video, my favourite RUclips trip report channel. Just a heads up, Atlas Air in the US still operates the 747-400 in passenger configuration, they have 5 (2 are parked up) and I think the 3 they fly are ex Virgin Atlantic machines. They aren't used on scheduled services, they carry out mainly military charters but also some standard charter work. Keep up the quality work, thank you
Thanks a lot, mate! I'm really glad to read kind comments like this one :)
Yeah, I thought about that when I was writing the sentence that you're making reference to. But as far as I know, they only do it on charter operations, while their main business is in the cargo sector. So that's why I decided that a little exception would not preclude me from making such a beautiful sentence hehehe But yeah, you're correct. :)
Ok, now I read the rest of your comment and you're saying exactly that haha
Have a great weekend and see you next Saturday flying from India to Paris! :))
This is why I choose Hawaiian Airlines for these transoceanic flights. They offer a free meal. Inter island flights on the other hand just give you a free pocket-sized guava juice.
That's true. The service is quite different :)
The guava juice is SO good!
Honolulu is a great airport!
I'm sure it will surprise a lot of people :)
I also want to see a Japan Airlines/ ANA flight in the future.
Great video, really enjoyed it and appreciated the APU explanation too. I didn't know about the Asian tourists to Hawaii so learned something else too! Love San Francisco and hope to make it to Hawaii someday 😊
Thanks a lot! Glad that you've enjoyed it and thanks for the feedback :)
Enjoy the weekend!
@@OnBoardHD You are most welcome and you enjoy the weekend too

Glad that you've enjoyed this jump over the Pacific!
Next Saturday we're flying from India! :))
Hawaii is on my bucket list. Thanks for the visit‼️
Is really worth visiting :)
Amazing video! The views on departure from HNL are simply breathtaking! 🤩
Thanks mate!
Glda that you've enjoyed it :))
I like viewing the contrail!
It's something I really enjoy as well haha
I love when I can recorded it and show it on the videos :)
Perfect as always - greets from 🇦🇹
Thanks Gustav :)
I like the open spaces of the Hawaii terminal. Interesting concept.
Absolutely. I'm looking forward to make more trips to airports like this one :)
Great video! I look forward to them every week! You actually got a rare experience flying into SFO on this flight. Landing on 19 means they had "turned the airport around" to land in storm conditions. Normally landings happen on 28L and 28R and they use 01L/R for some takeoffs (which are the 19s running the opposite way!). Fun!
Yeah, the wind was on the direction for setting this rwy configuration.
Maybe there were even some storms around as you said... :)
Lovely insight! ✈ Cheers from London 💂🏼
Vídeo Espetacular Maravilhoso Com o 777 Parabéns 😊🇧🇷✈️
Muchas gracias! :)
parabéns!!!! Muito bom. Continue postando.
Muchas gracias!! :)
great video, as always, the colours in Honolulu are amazing ! 🙂
Thanks a lot!
Another great video, my friend 👍
Glad you enjoyed it :))
Looks like a holiday trip😄
It was an amazing trip. I'm sure you'll enjoy it! :D
You are from which country
Buen Domingo! :)
This video was the best i've ever seen. It's my first time on the channel. It was very education ,I enjoyed the facts about vapor trails, APU etc. +1 subscriber 😁Have a great day !!
Thanks so much, Aaron!!
Really glad that you enojyed this video so much!
You have 700+ Trip Reports on the channel, so plenty to choose from haha
Welcome to OnBoardHD! :)
That's it: the bacon cheeseburger was probably the most American item on the menu (and I love a good one).
haha THat's true.
Itr was surprisingly good! I will definitely repeat the next time I fly with United! :D
Va hacer interesante ese vuelo. Saludos desde Venezuela 🇻🇪
Esperemos que sí! :D
Very nice video! Me and my wife flew from HNL in early mars to SFO. I agree the airport is very special with open spaces and to take a bus between the terminals. We also flew United , first in economy on SFO HNL ant than in economy plus but got seats in Premimum economy on our return flight to SFO
Thanks a lot! Glad that you've enjoyed it! :)
I have another United flight to Honolulu in the future, and the reason why I decided to not take an upgrade they offered me to PE is becasue those seats are mainly over the wings, which doesn't allow me to film many things I want =/
I love your videos
thanks :)
I'm glad your flight on a 23 year old 777 equiped with Pratt & Whitney engines that have a propensity for uncontained failures was a safe one.
You're an aviation expert :)
Greetings from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
Pura vida!! :D
Nice, nice, very nice! I am enjoying these videos from the US. I love SFO so much. As a child I was playing PC game Flight Unlimited II. Do you anybody remember? 😁😁😁 That is from this area around SFO and other airports like Oackland... etc.
Haha To be honest I don't even know the game... But I'm happy that it brought you some nice memories :))
I've just checked pics and it says it's from the 1997 microsoft sim. The first one I used was the 2004 edition :)
@@OnBoardHD Yep, it was in the last Century. The game is old, but iconic and memorable.

That's amazing United US & Worldwide destinations. The United fleet 7 airplanes that's good. ❤😊🎉🇺🇸🇺🇲👍🤗☺️🤩🛫🛬✈️✈️✈️✈️🤩
Thanks Neil!
Glad that you've enjoyed this Trip Report!
Enjoy the weekend :))
Great trip on United ! Yummy cheeseburger. Liked the openness of the Honolulu airport & the shops. If you live near a major airport are people allowed to shop there or are the stores only for flyers? Have always wondered that. 😊 Have a safe next trip✈️👍🏻🙋🏼♀️
Thanks! Glad that you've enjoyed the Trip Report! :)
The cheeseburger was surprisingly good! I will definitely repeat the next time I fly with United! :D
The shops are usually on the airside (after the security control) so are only for the passengers.
@@OnBoardHD thanks for answering my question. Airports certainly have better stores than most cities🤔
Are you able to do a trip to doha to Sulaymaniyah m. You have great videos and I love them ❤
For now it's not on my plans, but we'll have more Doha on the channel soon :)
Thank you OnBoardHD. You have great videos I enjoy your flight videos. Especially 16 hour flight from San Francisco to doha 🫶🏼❤️
Amazing video🎉 but i seems rare without display in airplane😢
I agree, it looks weird to see so many seats without screens :)
Dioss que ganasss
Estrenamos en pocos minutos! :D
The aircraft at 12:37 is N733KA, Boeing 737-800, KaiserAir Inc.
Wow! I would have never discover it.
Thanks a lot for the info. Great eye! :)
Landing on the 19L woah!!!!! Never seen one onboard. Landing was rough but ah whatever lol
Yeah, it's not common at all :)
Amazing channel new subscriber

I love your video A question: how do you have the means to make the flights and how do you do according to the hours of work to be able to do so many trip reports? Thank you for your answer one of your fans
By planning and working hard.
@@OnBoardHD Thank you for your answer but can you explain it please
The same flight and the same Airline United but a lot of years ago. The Aircraft was a old DC10😮 SFC.HNL.MAUI ❤❤ and Back... Than a long trip to Milan MPX.
Sounds amazing!
Yes it was ❤
Can you do more atlanta flights
I can take a look at it, yes :)
That is one long inflight announcement.
Take into account that you're watching a 4h+ flight in around 20 minutes. Maybe I put too much of them :)
It’s really cool to see that HLN airport has outdoor space on the airside. What “APU” stands for is “Auxiliary Power Unit”. You can hear those words & abbreviation on the movie, Sully.
Glad that you've enjoyed the video!
Exactly, that's the meaning of APU :)
Aren't they going to retrofit the economy class and keep first class the same on the aircraft u flew on? I thought I saw it in another video.
They did it already. As I say on the video, this is a B777 for domestic flights. These seats are exactly the same as those that are equipped on the Boeing 737 MAX, which are the newest planes on the fleet.
Greeting from uganda
hope you've enjoyed the video :))
That looks like air tahiti?
But they don't have 737s... =/
Since it’s a domestic flight and the plane is configured for domestic flights, how is that unusual?
It's unusual to see a B777 without screens in general.
I think Atlas Air always use at least a passengers B744 😉
True, for charters with soldiers mainly I think. :)
It not only looks a little old, and unloved, but it is old and poorly maintained with few upgrades. It just "is" and exists. Does the job with minimal frills.
It has been so many years since I have been on an airliner the only thing they served was coke and peanuts. Thank goodness for putting wheels on big suit cases. Nothing like having that house in the middle of a volcano.
hehehe Loved the part about the volcano :D
When is next long haul flight 10+ hours
10h+ towards the end of this month, but next week we'll have a long haul as well from India to France :)
@@OnBoardHD WHich airline
This is a 777-200, not a -200ER! All of the ERs have seatback screens and most of the domestic -200s do not have screens.
Thanks for the info :)
7:17 was that fuel leaking from that tube?
I didnt see it before... i dont know. Probably just some condensated vapour.
how come there were no monitors in the seats in this 777?
Because they are used in domestic routes only :)
@@OnBoardHD Does United plan to change its interior
El B 737 es Kaiser Air/Hawaii Shuttle una aerolinea charter
Correcto. :)
The plane at 12:37 has a levry similar to China Airlines (Taiwan)
Yes, that's true... but I wonder what a 737 of this company would be doing so far from its home... =/
That you can answer :) going for repairs? Lease?
Forgot to mention Hawaii is also popular with European tourists, however, there are no direct flights between mainland Europe/UK to Hawaii….yet
Well, not that much... it's prety far from Europe... More than 15 hours away and, as you said, there's no direct flight. To be honest, I don't know personaly any European that has been ever in Hawaii =(
Why do you always put the safety card instructions towards the end of the video and not the start of the flight?
Because ot was always that way 🤷♂️
Hello
One mistake: Hawaii isn't the only state that isn't part of the continental United States. Alaska is another one that isn't connected to any state.
Continental makes reference to a continent, it doesn't have anything with being next to another State. Alaska is on the American continent, so it's a continental State.
N210UA-N215UA are not ERs
Thanks for the info :)
Yeah the plane is configured for domestic flights but America is a huge country. A 777 without IFE is not acceptable.
Well, many A321's and B737 that make transcontinental flights also fit the same seats. They offer entertainment via WiFi.
@@OnBoardHD but this 777 can be used in a longer flight in case another 777 of the fleet failures

Negative. Is a private jet company, KaiserAir.
I have never seen a United B777 have no IFEs.
They have a few of them for these routes, as far as In know.
If the apu was inop, it wouldn’t fly etops
Nice try... But the B777 MEL states that it can fly up to 180 minutes from an airport, which applies to this route.
For the trip Honolulu to San franscico forget United airlines.... the service is poor
I have taken this flight several times, it is a disaster, the service on board is very poor, I do not recommend it, I chose another company
I have taken this flight several times, it is a disaster, the service on board is poor, once I received a cabin baggage on my head when its owner took it, I do not recommend it, chose another company
Well, that can happen in any flight... But yeah, on a 5h flight, the onboard service must be much better...
Do away with the comments. Kind of annoying.
Sure. Immediately.
Why do people tolerate domestic service and why is it so much worse than international service? Do we treat foreigners better than our own citizens? Yes, but why? Image or what? Despicable if you think about it. We pay lots of money to get minimized service. Sad. Is it greed or simple cost-cutting in places where passengers are more tolerant or maybe stupid? Says a lot about their opinion of their own passengers. Disgraceful, but most domestic carriers have the same prejudices against their own countrymen. Few better choices so we take what is offered. Maybe they are correct in their analysis of our tolerance for pain.
