- I almost killed Drew and Sean on this trail. At least that's what they think. In retrospect, not a good bike trail. :-) As far as the main obstacle, The Wall, as you will see I didn't do as well as I wanted. I really wanted to hit it again, but there just wasn't enough time... so I take my first run, and I stand proud of it! lol All in all... it was a great day!

I could be wrong, but it seems like when you're trying to climb the wall, your tires seem to have too much pressure. You might have been well served by lowering the tire pressure more. Just a thought.
Was going to ask what kind of tire pressure he was running.
70 psi -that's whats written on the side
@@marty0715yt go 80 psi just to be safe
@@TexasOffroadAdventures lol have had tons of so called mechanics tell me this haha..
When i went from 28 a.ts to 31 mud terrains on my grand wagoneer the mechanic tried to tell me to put them at 50psi because thats what it says on the sidewall lo
Not wrong. I’d be running about 18PSI on this.
I ran this trail for the first time a couple weeks ago. It took me 3 attempts to get up the wall...no winch...It's all about picking the right line just like you were discussing. I straddled the crack too and my passenger rear kept falling in that hole you climbed out of. Nice job guys, everyone made it over the wall one way or another!
Too many inexperienced cooks in the kitchen at the wall.
Some of my best learning experiences came from failures.
No big deal. Love your videos 👍✌ Thank
Amen! People comment on my videos and armchair quarterback wheeling videos. I still post the video with mistakes and all. We wheel to have fun and we’re not perfect. 😎
Hi all, glad you all made it safe! I'm sure the guy's spotting you are great people, but it is very obvious they cannot spot a line!
You are fortunate that no one or the vehicles were damaged...
Be Safe out there!
Yeah spotter, you put him right in the crack-.
Have the camera man spot ya next time.
Lessons learned. Spotters, ya gotta learn your part. Thanks
Love it! Would love to try it one day.
2 door for the WIN!
Well done Overclocked. Time enough to a dozen more runs in the future.
Great video! I was just out there in September in a Stock JK by myself and bypassed the Wall, glad I did! Just goes to show that the long wheelbase vs short, all depends on the obstacle. As for motorcycles, I saw guys struggle all day long trying to get up those mountains, kudos to anyone who tries!!
So you can go around the wall and make the rest of the trail in a stock jeep? How long does it take to drive it from the start of the trail to the end?
Don't worry about the winch, you did good! Keep it up.
Great video! We hit this trail for the first time a few weeks ago. I got schooled on the left side of the wall. I did spot my buddy Camron up it in his stock Gladiator which was super cool! My tires just suck
Hey guys first rule of spotting, one and only one spotter. I am of course referring to the obstacle called the wall.
Great video. I have a winch on my TJ Rubicon and hope to use it on a fantastic trail like that some day. Tires, lockers, winch, highlift jack, ect, are tools in your tool box that are there for good reasons.
Really running with a Toyota! I love it! One of my best friends works for Toyota and he runs a tundra 4 door TRD. Don’t buy one that was a lease turn in!! No really there super tuff! We have a ton of fun in the the upper peninsula of Michigan. It’s not that famous but a super cool spot to have a ton of fun with friends and family. U.P. Rocks! Kids and dads camping trips are the best!
Man, I miss that part of the country. My dad and I have been all over that area, as far as 2wd trucks could take us. Never tried 4wd. Wish we had, as he is gone now. Glad we did what we did, though. Gorgeous country.
What tire pressures were you running? I've led several groups over the wall and never needed to winch in dry weather. I've been on 35" KM's and 35" KO2's at 12psi and never had an issue and barely even slipped a tire on the wall. I too am heavy at around 6k pounds in my JKUR. I recently ordered new tires and decided to try the Nitto Ridge Grapplers in 37" size (although haven't installed them yet) and now worried they may not grip as well as my BFG"s. Thoughts on your tires?
Mike
I managed to make it up the wall some years back in my 2010 JKUR with 2” lift and 34” tires but last Sept I tried it in my new 2018 JLUR without success. But, we were out by ourselves and it was kinda wet. You are right, when that rear wheel drops in that hole it makes thing interesting.
I think is was a good run every one's new to that trail but yes airing down a little more would of helped a more experienced spotter would of made it quicker.
Look forward to your next video there always interesting.
It’s cool to know there is a gulch named after the town of Poughkeepsie, NY
Hey overclocked what lift size is that white jk running ?
If you had simply come straight up the little hill from the flat area , all that straightening up nonsense would have been avoided...that’s how I did it and barely slipped a tire all the way up
They should make a winch controller just for roll over protection, it should have a mode to automatically take in line until there's a tiny bit of tension.
Awesome video...
Needed to be aired way down for traction on the wall. Tires need to be able to spread and wrap the surface.
with spotters like that, who needs to be off roading! holy shit!
Love your videos but this one shows why one person should be spotting and everyone else should keep their mouths shut. I really mean this but I have to be honest, spotters need To know what they are talking about and be confident. If your spotter is not confident and your driver knows it then your driver loses confidence and that’s the last thing you need. This is how people get hurt and rigs get fucked.
I agree hopefully that’s not the Toyota guy?!?!
...and we have our first armchair quarterback.
@@o3djeeps your armchair quarterback is 100% right. One person and one person only unless the driver asks. Someone else can talk to the spotter but the spotter is the only one to give direction to the driver... unless you don't trust him in which case why have him spot?
@@o3djeeps You fells are posers. Your driver should get a look see.
The Wall is a little intimidating at first but after the first time on it it gets easier. Seen a guy go up in 2wd running 44"s the locals grow up on these obsticles. Good times.
We went down it in my Uncle's stock 2003 Chevy Z71. Rocker panel damage, and bent driveshaft.
I did this same line in a stock Land Rover LR3 and saw several Jeeps do it with no problem as well. Not sure what the problem was here... 🤔
driver, and 10 spotters with JEEP hats and keychains...
Aparently its because his 4 door weighs 6600lbs haha. Which is total bs those Jeeps stock barely push over 4000lbs. No way he has 2600lbs of mods on that.
A JLUR-D weighs a touch over 6,000lbs stock.
Great video and scenery, wish I still had my pinzgauer 712m, that wall would have been a cake walk, even with 13 passengers on board, easy stuff, but I understand your hesitation, the confidence comes with more seat time, I did 7 years of off road tours everyday in those conditions, so you were right to be concerned and winch, I did not have a winch but never needed one when you have a pinzgauer, keep wheeling and keep the videos coming...
Well, here is my imput...yes tire pressure around 16psi, and your approach was way off, I just completed the wall 2 days ago in one shot, by sraying straight on the the left, straddling the crack, then at first overture turn passenger, clear your rear, then back to driver. Approach is everything.
At the wall, was that another easier bypass just to the left of the actual wall (as opposed to the long bypass where the signs were a ways back)?
Jeffery Weber It’s slightly easier...not nearly as popular though.
If I take the harder trail at the fork can I still bypass the wall? Looks like you could just drive straight instead of turning right into the wall.
All that was roped off. Used to be a way through... But not any more.
Can you do the whole apline loop in a day? what time is it reccomended to start? and which way around the loop?
planning a trip!!! thanks! :D
Cody Shell Yes, the loop can be done in a day. I’ve always stayed in Ouray. You’ll have a blast!
@@drkbrent8976 sweet! awesome! trying to decide if i want to take engineer pass from silverton into ouray, or ophir pass and into ouray from the back. i've done ophir twice so i might want to do engineer to see something new.
now hopefully my trooper can make it up the "wall" with no lockers, just a limited slip. ha. i'll have to winch it if she cant crawl it
Well, I am glad I saw your video because I will avoid this if doing this by myself. I saw another video by BleepinJeep doing this trail and he didn't show any of those obstacles. He is a pretty experienced Jeeper so maybe it was no big deal to him. By the way, if you have not seen his video on Black Bear Pass, it is pretty scary. Start watching about half way into the video where the fun begins.
Was that the video with the hail, rain, and rock slides? Best Black Bear Pass video imo.
If you want fun rockcrawlin and wheeling go to Montrose and take main street to catch 90hwy to nucla- naturita anyways as you drive thru the pastures and you start getting out of town and start up the mountain on the right just past the shooting range on the right is major trails and rock climbing trails, only locals know about it and it's a blast in that area
Loving all you videos from Colorado. I'm a Maryland boy as well. Next September I'll be driving out for 2 week trip. We will be heading to Ouray area and trying to hit all the passes that are worthwhile and looking for high elevation campsites. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! I'm driving a lexus gx470 2inch lift with 33" tires. No winch. Thanks again in advance.
Def do the Alpine loop. Make sure you watch my vids on Black Bear and Imogene, and an older one but check out my Ophir pass video too
@@o3djeeps thanks for the quick response. My wife and I watched your Black Bear pass video. She a little nervous to go on that one. I check your older videos. Any places you recommend to lodge at and any cool camps spots along the passes?
Could I run my 2017 ram 1500 crew cab short box stock suspension with good offroad tires? No step tubes. Any places I should avoid other than Poughkeepsie?
You might be able to get through, but you’re not gonna have as much fun cause you’ll be worried about ruining a nice new truck. At a minimum there will be areas with pin striping.
I have done all these trails in my ‘98 Cherokee but I wouldn’t take my ‘14 f-150 out. Otherwise, it’s a badass area and you should absolutely go out.
mycatisromeo I’d avoid Engineer, Poughkeepsie, and Black Bear in that truck...maybe Imogene too...but then you won’t have much fun with what’s left over!
7000lbs! I think I see your problem. The 2dr had the advantage of less "junk in the trunk"...
I wish the weather would have been like that when I was there a month ago. Rained hard everyday and there were just some risks I wasn't willing to take.
That would be nearly impossible in the rain!
Unreal. Just drive straight up. Did it the other day, was easy first try.
Did you do any camping while in Colorado? I'm already planning my return trip for 2019 and plan to camp in Colorado, but stay in hotels while in Utah.
Drew drove his RV out...so we kicked it in that. Camping with a microwave...and air conditioning. Lol
Lucky!
o3djeeps [ OVERCLOCK3D Jeeps ] and don’t forget bed and bathroom- ish. thats how we roll too. Too old to sleep on ground. Nice trail vid. Just got back but I missed Poughkeepsie.
Not going to pile on. I don’t understand why you felt you needed to approach the wall from the side like that. It’s very easy to approach it head-on right from the bottom. Very surprised you had such difficulty on such a simple obstacle.
Fun stuff. FYI Poughkeepsie isn't even close to the toughest trails in Colorado. Live here 34 years. Come again. 😎
kong3 Which ones are tougher in the Ouray area?
You synthetic rope people need to get a sleeve to stop chafing on the rocks. The fact that the blue shirt guy has the hold the winch line is pretty sketchy blabla just looking out for your safety. Nice video
A Bill Tower-ék 2012-es felvételeit néztem itt először a csatornán, de az útépítő brigád 6 év elteltével sem jutott el ide, valahogy.... 14.49-nél van egy kis bizonytalanság a továbbjutást illetően....
Dude in the mega cab ram got up cleaner.
Can any of this be done with a full sized truck?
arredondo1990 Oversized, trail tires and a lift...yes. Of course it’s a given you need 4wd.
If you had a Suzuki Samurai you could get places that you can't with a jeep because of size and weight, first thing I did when I moved back to Colorado was buy a samurai because they are the best 4x4's ever made.
More pepper, no more salt, no more pepper, here let me add some salt, right, left, in, out. Pretty funny. We watched a guy turn 360 degrees in only 20000 moves within a 10 foot diameter. lol
Where do you check in to get your badge
Android or Iphone Jeep Badge of Honor app
Here’s a video of my dad doing the wall in his stock Ram about 10 years ago and he made it up in just under 10 minutes, using his winch from about halfway up. Most of the comments were calling him an idiot but you do the same thing and get praised. I don’t understand why people are like that. He didn’t just come upon this trail, he planned for it and prepped his truck the way he wanted to and made it without any serious damage.

Most people aren't going to understand how huge and difficult to maneuver those XR650s are on rocks like that. If your not 6'2'' with a 32'' inseam your on your tip toes and backing up is near impossible on flat ground. Add rocks and its a lot of physical labor to move those bikes around and get up a hill. You have to make the bike do the work in most situations. One of the best bikes ever made. Worst sub frame ever.
Thank you! Yeah... they are tall, and heavy. And people are not going to understand how tough the uphill on that trail is... that's why most videos show folks going the other direction, where momentum isn't quite as big of an issue thanks to a thing called gravity. :-) Still tough...but not as tough as trying to go up...
So true.
Was there last summer with my son. We didn't see anyone having problems with Jeeps or side by sides, etc...but we did see 3 motorcycles wreck. Nothing bad, but they kinda got twisted up from the rocks and fell over. One, was right on the way down Engineer Pass to Ouray.
Hard to drive with bad spotters. That should’ve been an easy hill.
This looks epic, cool song choice could you put a link to them
I need to get better at that.
Ani-moss forks? Where'd you come up with that pronunciation?
Jeep Jeep R.I.P Tom Hatten Popye and the sea hag miss you
I don't understand why the motorcycle guys were going over rocks 🤣
👍😎
6600 lbs ? What weighs 6600lbs on a 4 door with some tires rims and the winch ? Because stock those things are maybe 4200. You mean to tell me you have 2400lbs of extra stuff on it ? Im calling 100% bs on that
I'm sorry. We haven't run the Wall in an old '93 ZJ with open diffs. There is a winch point higher than where the first jeep attached, and that spotter was an idiot. Stay hard right on the wall.
* have
Was this filmed in April
Is switchbackie a real word?
It is now! I invented it... I need a dictionary just to collect CPOisms. lol
I’m confused on the almost killing friends part or are they just not skilled bikers?
When you skip around in the video, you miss things. Things like explanations. 🤣
Heath has wayyyyyyyy better tires !!! You’re on racing slicks !!
I can't disagree.... I love these tires as a daily.... But they sure need some lugs in the middle! That was noticeable in Moab too... Hahaha
Actually, I only fell once when I stopped. When I looked back, I rolled back--and down!! Old guy problems...
Drew I hear you on the "old guy problems" We just got back from last week's trip and all of our runs (including Poughkeepsie) I only fell once. Of all things it was when I stopped to talk to an oncoming jeep. I put my foot down on the downhill side unfortunately and it never touched down. DRZ 400s are TALL! The Jeep driver didn't know what to think about a guy that can't even keep the rubber side down at a standstill.
@@CurtisValk The most damage I did on a longer trip was the exact same thing; foot down, no ground. Keep riding!
That spotter is going to get hurt if the winch line fails. I don’t care if it’s a synthetic rope.
Its painful watching you do this. The silver Jeep is in the way and its sad that they cut in that bypass.
Poughkeep-ski 😂
You said yourself. You should of aired down more. Your rear tires weren't even compressed. Sorry about being a armchair QB lol.
The video NEVER does it justice
2 many chiefs
Video never does hills justice. Horrible bike trail. Great vid btw
Capable vehicles but no capable spotters next time air down that’s a operator error btw I’ve been out there any times and I still spend time there ya you winched yourself up
im sorry about the guy in the blue shirt
back up, air down to 7 psi, and hit da gas... otherwise one of those nerds spotting is going to put a toy duck on your JK
Sorry, but this guy doesn't understand what a "45 degree angle" is. Most skiers cannot ski a 45 degree angle. When he says this, the skyline on the left of the screen is probably approaching 45 degrees in places. It's probably 18 degrees or so.
are you kidding that bike isn't made for that or that rider i could make that easy on my bike. you can see dirt bike tracks on that hill where you winched yourself up
You're so awesome
ok what ever
Jim Layey Tires are everything on that trail...bike seemed fairly heavy as well.
Sorry but the driver off the Toyota just kept spotting you in ALL the wrong places. You could have total walked up that wall.
Maybe he can't get up that hill because he has his fancy headlights on. All those gadgets he has on that jeep.
You're probably right. I thought this was the Macy's parking lot. That's all I normally do is flex on curbs and bounce around on speed bumps.
@@o3djeeps That's obvious.
@@jameskey7290 I tried to find your video of this obstacle to learn how it's done but I couldn't find it. Please share your link when you have a moment. We could all learn from you.
@@o3djeeps burn!
This, is like watching paint dry...
Sooooooooooo far from the "most extreme" trails in CO. Please look up Boulder Canyon, Die Trying, 10 Falls, Carnage Canyon before making statements like that.
Childs play for a motorcycle if you know how to ride. Just sayin'
I had to stop watching. 2 spotters telling you 2 different things has to be frustrating.
LOL - this Toyota guy doesn't get motion sick like one does in those vomit-box Jeeps. Yet I digress.
More importantly, why would you trust your rig to a piece of twine to keep you from endo-ing, hmmm? That's what it is. No other industry uses twine in the same way they use steel cable. It is a uniquely off-road-industry misstep.
And the guy who "just drove up" without lockers...indeed tho he didn't "momentum cannon" like most do without lockers, there will come a day when he will need to (because he has no lockers) and that's when crap will break. Just wait for it.
And back to Toyota...I wonder how much of that 4Runner has been replaced due to inferior OEM components like your Jeep has been??? I'm unaware of any Jeep owner who hasn't replaced at least 50% of their drivetrain due to lack of robustness. Especially to do trails like this one. Who the hell is ok with that??
Meanwhile, 30 year old, 300kmile 3xl Land Cruisers continue their understated domination with pretty much factory equipment. And without causing dry heaves.
Lol - great video and looks like a fun trip. Great job. Hope to get there soon myself.
Who started the "badge of honor" crap? How honorable is it to drive a vehicle? It's honorable to risk yourself for others, not to play.
