I think this should be fact checked, the articles on the case do not match the podcast.

This podcasts start of so well, but devolves completely into a biased narrative where the facts are ignored.
By episode 5 no relevant facts are described. The narrative assumed that because the suspect is black, he was prosecuted and convicted.
As an example,. the podcast keeps talking about how in general most police in Washington State are racist. And are more often stopped by police, more often charged with crimes.
How is that giving us insight into the story? It's not. It's just meant to warp our minds, leading us to forget about facts and speculating about why the suspect was investigated and charged.
The whole story is mostly about how the suspect is the true victim, describing his sad backstory and how hard his life must have been, being black and being a criminal.
The actual back round of the victim is mostly ignored as well by the way, only the suspect is portrayed as the victim.
As an objective non-US listener, this podcast was shocking. It's not journalism, although to be fair I don't know if it was meant to be.
Very disturbing, I see it as a true modern American tale. Facts don't matter (for either side by the way). Fantasy has taken over in American society.
From episode 7 I could not continue by the way. I was hoping for something like Serial (season 1).
But this podcast is nothing like that. Whoever made this should be ashamed of their work and I hope they reflect on their bias.
Definitely will stay clear from Wondery from now on.

Same. If he was white, with the same history, they'd be all about it.

Facts don't care about your feelings. Look at the prison system filled with brown people and they are the facts. Yes cops shoot, beat and put in prison black people unarmed or innocent. This is America and I have privilege bc of the hue of my skin and will always stand with the oppressed and stand against the corrupt system that we call justice. My degree in BHHS has opened up my mind and I see what is the reality in front of me. I worked with people who can never get a fn break. This is reality and their are other podcasts that might fit you better in the world you think you live in. A country founded on genocide and chattel slavery is not perfect. Have we made progress yes but when you have ignorant people in and with power over others dehumanizing anyone who isn't white or Christian we have a long way to go. 2 steps forward 10 backwards some people are afraid of change. And no one should sit in prison for 7 years to go to trial and get a hung jury and return to prison until the socalled justice system takes you to court again and the case is dismissed 2 trials later. No one should go through that no matter what the hue of a person's skin.

Agreed, I got really turned off around episode 4 but was interested in the outcome. Made it to episode 7 and will not be finishing, what a waste of time. This turned into complete SJW/woke bull crap. I will look for a different true crime podcast that focuses on facts not feelings, and doesn't excuse the perpetrator because of skin color (talk about racists!).
