Wow... I find these by far the smoothest blade I've ever used and they work in ALL my razors. I'm sorry you had an such an 'ordinary' experience. I guess YMMV holds in this case I guess.
These replaced Astra SPs as my go-to blade. In my Merkur 38c, they way out performed the Astras. They are not quite as smooth to use, but give me a BBS shave every time.
A little late to the safety razor game but using Sraight razor for the past couple years and just ordered a merkur long handle off amazon because of reviews after watching your channel. Thanks for what you do, Sincerely, Its a great service bringing back this art.
Dont get long handle they are junk. Only use classic short handle 3" is ideal never over 3.4". All classic galettes and merkur were 3" and you get better control for closer shaves
I loved the Gillette Silver Blues until I tried, believe it or not, Van der Hagen blades. I have found the Van der Hagens are the smoothest, longest lasting blades I have ever tried for my face. I have tried almost a dozen blades and believe the holy grail was found for me. They work great in all my different razors I have. Absolutely love Van der Hagen blades in my Jack Black DE razor. As always YMMV. I always enjoy your reviews. Thanks.
Hi Nick Love all your reviews, and is because of you that I started wet shaving with these type of razors. Thanks for that Nick!!! These Gillette Silver Blue blades are the ones for me,I tried Personnas,Voskhod, derby's,Shark but these are my favorite and the ones that seem to work best for my type of facial hair and growth. I have a Merkur bakelite ,Edwin Jagger DE89BA,Mekur Futur and a Parker 99R and the collection is gonna keep growing...I know!!! Keep up the good work Nick,YOU THE MAN!!!
I checked your blade reviews and the results were almost the same: "I do love these blades", "it was a fantastic/excellent shave", "very close, wow". You are lucky that almost all blades fit your face.
That's because a lot of blades on the market are good. Most are mild, but a lot are in between too, and only some like Astras and Feathers are sharp. So, just find a razor that works for you and get a good blade, that's it. Everything else comes down to proper prep and technique.
@@RubbelisPro Yeah, we're very lucky that most blades are good and cheap. That means almost anywhere you are in the world, you can find good and affordable blades.
Strange acting blades. Tried them over the past 3 shaves on EJDE89... 1st shave was super close and irritated. 2nd much better with little irritation. 3rd shave was simply fantastic this morning. It is like the blades are getting better after few shaves somehow. I believe those will last a good 5 shaves compared to Derby Extra that didn't do a great job on 3 shaves I could get from it. Silver Blue looks like it will stay available in my blade selection. Very happy with it
Nick - If you got irritation with a GSB, I can only imagine what would happen if you tried going XTG on your neck with a Merkur Futur on setting 5! These are my favorite blades. I get at least 5 or more shaves per blade and I have a pretty tough beard. I'm currently on my 11th shave with the same GSB using my Merkur Futur, and that's with full 3 pass + shaves AND with the all important XTG pass on the neck. Most other blades give me an average of 4 shaves per blade.
+Jan Skrotnes What razor are you using with the GSB's? I'm using the Futur and the EJ 89L, and I've had no problems, even with a 3 days growth. I will say that it's smoother in a less aggressive razor like the EJ. I like the Astra's and I just purchased 100 Astra SP's (green). While I think it's a good blade (and in my top 5), I have to work a little harder for a BBS shave, especially on the neck. On a Futur, a GSB at setting 2.5 or 3 can give a close shave with 3 passes and a touch up. With the Astra SP, I have to go to setting 4. I also doubt I can get 10 shaves from an Astra SP. The most I've gotten with the Astra is 4 or 5.
I have tried them in my Hone Type 15, did not get bad irritation but some, only blade so far to give me any irritation with that razor, got really bad irritation in my Gillette New Short Comb, Tech and my Muhle R89. I'm somewhat inclined to think that I got a defect pack of blades.
+Jan Skrotnes Some blades just don't work for some people. Sometimes, it's because they're using the same pressure with each blade, when less pressure is called for with a sharper blade. For some, slightly more pressure with a smoother blade that's not as sharp will cut through a thicker beard. Even though my beard is too thick for Derby's, because they're so cheap I bought a 100 pack. The reason is that if I have to shave for a few days in a row, I want a more forgving blade on those days when I might decide to just perform two passes with more strokes per pass, and add a little pressure for closeness (if that makes sense!).
Great shave Nick. i would put these blades as my 3rd choice behind Feather and Perma-Sharps. i loved these blades in the 37C slant and for me, i got around 5 shaves out of a blade before my beard started getting tough and i went to straight razors full time.
Appreciate the reviews Nick. Im spending way too much money on supplies as it is. I can jump on RUclips and get a lot of my curiosities satisfied with all the products you use. I have a 100 pack of Feather blades and I love them so I'm just going to save the money and space and not buy more blades. I usually shave with a straight razor anyway lol. My gf thinks I'm nuts with all the shaving products I own, it's getting hard not to agree with her.
i most likely will pick these up later down the line. the fact that they look so old school and the blades themesleves look really nice are a selling point for me too lol
I find the Silver Blues to be about the best balance I have found for smoothness and sharpness. I do not find them to be all that durable....3 shaves max for me, and sometimes change them out after the second shave. But, overall, pretty good. I had no issues with irritation using these blades in any of my razors. I prefer the Feathers.....but I use those only in my 23C & 34C. I would refrain from using a Feather in any of my open comb razors. Astra Super Platinums fall in right behind the Feathers for me. I will use the Astra SP's in my open combs. All in all, Gilette SB's are among the best I've found.....I use them in my rotation all the time. However, I do change them out fairly frequently.
great video nick, that brush looks amazing, anyway what do you think about those gillette compare to the 7 o'clock? I really enjoy using the 7 o'clock so just wondering
Thanks for the great review nick! You were the one who got me into wetshaving and i have been an avid watcher of your videos ever since. I have probably around 15 soaps now and a few razors as well as blades. Keep up the work and thanks for all of your help!!
I used these in a Fatip Piccolo and I had a fantastic shave one of the best ever really close and really smooth. I personally don't get on with Wilkinson Sword though so it just goes to show that YMMV!!
Hi Nick! Thank you for your reviews! In this video you promised to do a review for Gillette Platinum blades. Whether you are planning a review of the blades?
Great shave Nick! Can you please visualize sharpness and smoothness with some infographics? it will be much clear the position of current blades vs you top performers. Thanks for the review!
Just went back to personna blue (US made for hospital use) from my silver blues....definitely not as smooth in my 26c Parker. I may even have to re-test my Gillette NEW with the silver blues. I have previously dismissed the razor for being a little too aggressive, but the silver blues may be able to salvage the purchase.
Nick, Thank you for making these videos! I have recently started DE shaving thanks to your videos and its going great so far. Quick question: What are the numbers 1-2-3-4 on the sides of the blades for? Do people flip the blade over or what? Also what are some online forums that you would recommend to check out? Thanks and keep up the great videos!
Thx I just ordered a pack of these two days along with almost all the brands you reviewed from Russia and all the ones from Egypt lord and shark and so on. All from one seller on eBay that lets you assemble a sample pack not cheap for around 0,35 cents a blade but still one time thing and then just find the best deal on the one I like
Hey, Nick, thanks for the review. Love your videos. Do you any plans to review chiseled face soaps any time soon? I was specifically hoping you would review either the summer storm or trade winds scents. Thanks, nick, hope to see new videos soon.
funny ymmv example, my experience with these blades is the total opposite I find them super smooth and non irritating but not sharp enough for my skin after 3 passes I still have lots of cleanup to do
Hey Nick thanks for this channel and all the good reviews!! I have a general question, is it safe to buy razor blades from eBay shipping from outside of North America? Can there be any risks involved like contaminated blades etc?
Now Gillette Blue Blades I only use in die cast car model processing. It's really really sharp. :-) But shaving I'm using the Fusion ProGlide which has 5 blades and one lubrication strip. But also I have 2 in 1 sensitive ocean shave gel. :-)
Always a great job on your videos Nick! I just reviewed the Astra SP and Derby blades on my channel. I have a request to review the Voskhod blades so I'll probably review them next.
Hey Nick, I noticed you stopped using pre-shave products in your videos. Have you stopped using pre-shaves all together? If so, how come? I often question their efficacy. If my face is well hydrated, either from showering right before a shave or moisturizing my face at night before a morning shave then I notice almost no benefit from any sort of pre-shave product.
Hi Nick, I have been using the Permanent sharp blades since seeing your review, what great blades they are everything I need for a good shave thanks mate. 🇬🇧
We must have similar skin and hair. The permas are win win! I liked the Astra sps better than the sb. I can actually go atg with stallion soap and permas. Nice to have the bbs more often. I'm still looking for a soap that is as slick as the stallion. Any recommendations?
Nick, when you get the chance please review Gillette Stainless red and Astor blades. My favorite is Astor, I am curios to know what you think about them.
Nick I think I'm gonna give up DE shaving.... my wife got me the Micro Touch One for a Valentine's gift and I've tried different blades and different angles...my face is jacked up!!!??? I feel like I should keep trying but what do I Do??!!
hi nick will you plan on trying the product of ''the art of shaving'' like their shaving cream?? and continue with your review and all your video i really like those p.s. sorry if i write some words wrong i'm a french canadian
I have a blade that I import that I bet you never tried. I will PIF you a few and then you can see if you want to review them. If they are not one of the best blades you have ever tried I would be extremely surprised. Ever try Zircon?
hey Nick I love your videos I've learned a lot and I'm really getting into DE shaving. recently at the local Walgreens I picked up some (Gillette Platinum-Plus) blades. they say they're made in Brazil and I got 9 blades for about 5 bucks. if you could sometime Getaround to reviewing them that would be awesome. I would love to hear your opinion on them thanks bud.
I used to use the feathers but i always cut my face then i switched to the gillette silver blue and i haven't cut my face anymore but i can never get that close a shave i will cut myself if i try to do multiple passes or go against the grain
Hey Nick, I'm a new DE shaver, and have only been using a DE razor for the last three weeks (before that Harry's and DSC, and I'm glad I made the switch!). I've really enjoyed and benefited from your videos and others in the wet shave RUclips community (especially Mantic59). I've noticed as I work through your library of videos that you only have five of your blade reviews on the blade review playlist. I don't know how hard it is to add existing videos to existing playlists, but I think people would be more likely to find them, or at least more likely to watch additional videos about other blades, if they were on the playlist together. Just my opinion. Also, I haven't watched all your videos yet, and I'm sure you review some, but do you dislike glycerin based soaps? You seem to stick to mostly tallow or stearic acid for the most part, with palm making a good showing as well. I chose to try Mama Bear glycerin based soaps for my first shave soap, and the scent is really nice, but if I don't bloom it it's difficult to load. Thanks again for all your hard work. -Tiller
These are my go-to blades. Love these but the glue gets on my nerves. Wish they would wrap them or place glue dots more towards center of the blade. Nonetheless still my favorites.
The Stirling Orange Chill is great stuff! That was the first Stirling soap I ever tried and funny enough that was my last soap review I did a few days ago... LOL and I know it won't be my last!
Can you add Ladas to your blade review? I think its a nice Russian blade that is commonly overlooked due to the popularity of Voskhods, Rapira and GSBs.
Tried my first silver blue today in a Gillette slim razor on setting 3. I wasn’t that impressed with it. It didn’t seem that sharp and gave me several irritations. I got a much better shave with Astra sp and Voskhod blades….plus both are much cheaper than the silver blues. My next try blades will be the nacet and feathers.
Hey Nick I wanted your opinion on those "Isreal" Personna blades that come in a 200 pack on Amazon. wasn't sure if they are legit or not. trying to choice between those & your favorites lol. great vids!
+Angel Ulloa There are good blades called usually "red personnas" or "Israeli Personnas" or Crystal - they have good reputation, especially PaulH from PaulHFilms on RUclips likes. They deliver a close shave, are not very very sharp like American Personnas (Lab Blue) or Feathers, but that's why I like them (as I don't cut myself much with them).
Wow, just gave these a go and ...... My face is on fire!!! Will try them again but will try them with my standard cream etc just incase it was something I done, but for now I'm in pain!!
I like the silver blue blades, but they’re really only good for one or two shaves and i keep a beard all the time so i’m not shaving a large portion of my face
can anyone tell me if they've heard, seen, or used the Parker 76R TTO razor? I ordered one on Amazon but don't see it on the Parker website. I also don't see any review of it on RUclips. could it be an imposter?
GSBs are my #1 blade choice in an aggressive razor. I like persona reds & Kai as alternates, and use persona lab blues when I need an acceptable but not BBS shave. I've tried the entire Gillette lineup, and none of the others were keepers for me. Like Astra sp sharpness, but not very smooth. Feathers are overrated - great sharpness, but not smooth and very poor longevity. GSBs are the most reliable blade I've got. No matter what soap I'm using, I get great 4-pass shaves every time.
+Timothy Fimbres In Valparaiso Indiana, there's a little shop called SouthShore Shaving company. They make their own shaving soap and pomade ( And a few other things?) They sell parker razors and have a very slim selection of blades. The soap is pretty good. I'd like to see Nick do a review of it, but, I have no idea if the place ships their stuff or not. In my experince, their stuff is good. Does that still count as Chicago area?
+Antonio Portolesi (The Mindful Shaver) The one by Millenium station? Next time I ride out there, I might just do that. Do they have their own line of stuff? What's to expect there?
+nysath not sure of location as never been, but some family lives nearby and they've gone by, apparently they have an amazing selection of stuff. Google it. enjoy!
Great blades, AWFUL wax dot placement. Not only 4 wax spots, but more often than not they are placed so they partly cover the cutting edge, and you have to wipen them clean of the wax before you start your shave. I gave my 100 pack away last month because of this wax placement. Cheers, Claus
Most razor blades (excluding Personna) have small dots of wax on the blade that holds it in place in the wrapper, so the blade doesn't cut through the wrapper. On the Gillette Silver Blue blades, the wax is often placed in a way so that the cutting edge of the blade is covered in the wax, affecting the blade's performance.
+nick shaves I noticed that you tend to shave the same spots over and over and over again during one and the same pass. Little wonder that your skin gets irritated when you do that. I've been using those GSB blades for eight months now and I wouldn't want to use any other blades, perhaps except Voskhod blades from Russia. The GSB blades are very smooth, more than sharp enough to provide close yet comfortable, irritation-free shaves and last for seven or eight shaves each. You can't possibly ask for more in a razor blade. I personally think that GSB blades are excellent VFM.
I know these are highly ranked by Chris Bailey and others in the RUclips community. For me, Silver Blues are a good performer, but there are others I like better, including Ramira SS, Gilette SS and Astra SP's I think. I am waiting for PermaSharp blades. I placed order on Ebay from overseas. Saved money but taking forever!
one thing i remember back when i was a toddler some 50 years ago. i put my baby fingers into a silver blue. that was so terrifying it stayed with me until now
Hello Nick. I sent you 2 messages on Instagram and got no response. i wanted to send you a sample of my shaving soap and beard/preshave oil for reveiw. Would love your feedback
Wow... I find these by far the smoothest blade I've ever used and they work in ALL my razors. I'm sorry you had an such an 'ordinary' experience. I guess YMMV holds in this case I guess.
He's a paid shill dude.
Sherly Teegs that’s why I pay little attention to his channel any longer

Have you tried the Gillette Platinum blades or the Mitchell’s Wool Fat Soap?
God damn that shave was satisfying. The sound of the pass against your face was great.
Would you say they're equal to Gillette Bleue Extra?
Platinum vs rubie vs silver blue?
Do a comparison.
Nick, I enjoy these blades. Its strange that I cant use feathers, but I can use these. Great videos man. You've taught me a lot.
hey have you ever used Wilkinsons soap? you can pick it up from Wal mart for a couple of bucks
Nick, please do a video with questions and answers.)
I used to use those now I am trying the platinum
At last!!
The review I was waiting for!
Thank you Nick!!
That's the only blade I can shave with!! :)
Can you add Ladas to your blade review? I think its a nice Russian blade that is commonly overlooked due to the popularity of Voskhods, Rapira and GSBs.
Well I'm back I ordered another 20 pack 100 blades in all, they shave really good no problem.
Nick you should do an updated den tour!
I have a very sensitive skin and I do like a lot Gillette Silver Blue.
Nick:: What do you mean in the video by "Personna Sharp" blades?
I love Russian blades, there my favorite blades. Have you tried a Sharp Star blade, I haven't been able to find a review on them on youtube yet.
Bearcwy I have a cardboard tuck of them. In the Green package
Nick, give the silver blues a try in a very mild razor. 🙂
Hey Nick I wanted your opinion on those "Isreal" Personna blades that come in a 200 pack on Amazon. wasn't sure if they are legit or not. trying to choice between those & your favorites lol. great vids!

There are good blades called usually "red personnas" or "Israeli Personnas" or Crystal - they have good reputation, especially PaulH from PaulHFilms on RUclips likes. They deliver a close shave, are not very very sharp like American Personnas (Lab Blue) or Feathers, but that's why I like them (as I don't cut myself much with them).
+Dominik Rzepa Thank you, really appreciate the info man!
Wow, just gave these a go and ...... My face is on fire!!!
Will try them again but will try them with my standard cream etc just incase it was something I done, but for now I'm in pain!!
what kinda razor did you use?
Best blade I’ve ever used.
I use Parker Variant
I like the silver blue blades, but they’re really only good for one or two shaves and i keep a beard all the time so i’m not shaving a large portion of my face
Nice shave!
can anyone tell me if they've heard, seen, or used the Parker 76R TTO razor? I ordered one on Amazon but don't see it on the Parker website. I also don't see any review of it on RUclips. could it be an imposter?
Man oh man, I really do like these blades.
Please tell me you didn't pull the lather out of that brush.
he did
you should do blind test on permasharp blades
I like the Silver Blue(s), but I have become a Perma-Sharp Super fan.
Thats my Favorite Blade!
Best blade for me ... but we all know that at traditional shaving YMMV!
your lathers always look like face clouds. :)
Have you been to any shaving/mens care stores in Chicago area? Any recommendations?
+Timothy Fimbres In Valparaiso Indiana, there's a little shop called SouthShore Shaving company. They make their own shaving soap and pomade ( And a few other things?) They sell parker razors and have a very slim selection of blades. The soap is pretty good. I'd like to see Nick do a review of it, but, I have no idea if the place ships their stuff or not.
In my experince, their stuff is good. Does that still count as Chicago area?
check out merz apothecary bud.
Google it. enjoy!
Long Tine no see brother hope all is well Regards Peter
Great blades, AWFUL wax dot placement. Not only 4 wax spots, but more often than not they are placed so they partly cover the cutting edge, and you have to wipen them clean of the wax before you start your shave. I gave my 100 pack away last month because of this wax placement. Cheers, Claus
Ageed there, man. Good blades, terrible wax dot placement.
I'm new to wet shaving. What is "wax dot placement"?
Most razor blades (excluding Personna) have small dots of wax on the blade that holds it in place in the wrapper, so the blade doesn't cut through the wrapper. On the Gillette Silver Blue blades, the wax is often placed in a way so that the cutting edge of the blade is covered in the wax, affecting the blade's performance.
VikingShaver Finally somebody that says that wax is awful
Hey Nick, did you get to review the Gillette Platinum blades?
*Which blade will get the honor of (Blade Of The Year)...*
*PERMASHARP SUPERS baby.*
+nick shaves
I noticed that you tend to shave the same spots over and over and over again during one and the same pass.
I like these blades but they aren't good enough to justify paying so much more over say Astra SP or Personna.
one thing i remember back when i was a toddler some 50 years ago.
i put my baby fingers into a silver blue. that was so terrifying it stayed with me until now
Good heavens!
"no sense in wasting soap" 10 minutes later has enough lather to shave 10 men. lol nice shave though man! good blades too!
Seriously man 🤣
Hello Nick. I sent you 2 messages on Instagram and got no response. i wanted to send you a sample of my shaving soap and beard/preshave oil for reveiw. Would love your feedback
Hey! Do you have a shop? I want to see your products!
Great blades but start tugging after 2 shaves
That's Perma Sharp
